Chapter 671: The Diplomatic Corps
Chapter 671: The Diplomatic Corps
Fang Zhixin had just realized that the number of intruders was quite large, so he had prepared himself for a fight to the death, determined not to let them capture him alive.
However, before they could surround him, over ninety percent of the combat personnel lost their fighting ability on the spot under the impact of Chen Chuan's spiritual power.
Chen Chuan's battle with the remaining few was not something he witnessed, but he could probably tell from the sounds that the fights ended within three or four rounds.
From start to finish, it lasted no more than three or four minutes.
What surprised him the most was the formidable momentum Chen Chuan displayed when he launched his attack, which seemed to have improved significantly compared to his previous battle with Teacher Chen.
Amidst his awe and admiration, he became even more convinced of his earlier thoughts. At this moment, he spoke solemnly, "Captain Chen, I was just thinking that there is indeed such a map of the Fusion Zone, and it's very detailed."
"I learned indirectly that those who had contributed to Teacher's plan seemed to want to obtain these materials as well, but Teacher didn't give them to anyone."
Chen Chuan had already guessed that there must be someone backing Chen Bitong's actions, but he couldn't figure out their identity at the time. Now, he asked, "What's the identity of those who helped Teacher Chen? Does Assistant Fang know?"
Fang Zhixin's expression became complicated, "It's not that I don't want to tell you, but Teacher never mentioned it to me. I guess he probably didn't want me to get entangled with those people."
Chen Chuan's eyes gleamed with deep calmness. There were many influential groups in Jinbeidao Central City, and the Sects held considerable power. However, Chen Bitong clearly hadn't joined any Sect, and based on his actions and principles, he wouldn't align with the Fusion or Polished Factions. It was almost impossible for him to cooperate with them.
But there was one organization that was very likely to provide assistance, and it also explained why Chen Bitong didn't want Fang Zhixin to have any dealings with them.
Of course, this was just his speculation, and he couldn't provide any proof at the moment. He could try to verify it later.
After some thought, he asked, "Did Teacher Chen ever hand over these materials to the government?"
"Teacher Chen submitted them once a long time ago, back when he was in the Pioneer Team," Fang Zhixin replied. "But the Fusion Zone in Jinbeidao is vast, and there might be significant changes within a few years.
Teacher Chen later reviewed some of the materials and reports submitted by the pioneers who followed him, and he found many errors and discrepancies. He attributed this to insufficient spiritual power and misjudgments during the defense against the invasion. So, for the past few years, Teacher has been organizing and summarizing the information, as well as trying to find a way to verify it again."
"In the past, Teacher Chen would submit some of the verified materials every year, but in recent years, he hasn't submitted even a single report."
Chen Chuan pondered for a moment. It seemed that Chen Bitong had already started preparing for that plan back then.
Fang Zhixin continued, "Now that I think about it, it's not just these foreigners. Those people who captured me earlier might have also been after these materials."
"Do you know who they were?" Chen Chuan asked.
"It's hard to say," Fang Zhixin replied. "At first, I thought they were the people who had contacted Teacher, and I wondered if Teacher had arranged for them to rescue me. But later, it didn't seem like that. Then I thought they might be from the Temporary Special Action Committee, but now I'm not so sure..."
Fang Zhixin shook his head, "Regardless of who they are, I won't let them have their way." He lifted his head and looked at Chen Chuan, saying, "Captain Chen, I can only give these materials to you. I trust you, and I believe that if Teacher were here, he would never let the Union take away the Awakening Seed."
As he spoke, he stepped slightly closer and said a few words with a powerful voice.
After listening, Chen Chuan nodded and asked, "Assistant Fang, where do you plan to go next?"
Fang Zhixin, although no longer wanted, might still be on the lookout. If he were to appear in public, not only the Temporary Special Action Committee but also the Union and possibly an unknown force might take action.
"I've already thought about it," Fang Zhixin said. "After this, I plan to go to the Fusion Zone. I want to find my fellow fighters there."
Those retired gunmen who had accompanied Chen Bitong earlier were now sent back to the combat frontlines of the Fusion Zone. If it weren't for finding out about their whereabouts, he might have tried to leave this place when he escaped.
"Do you have a way to get there?" Chen Chuan asked.
"I do, Captain Chen," Fang Zhixin replied. "I know a few people there."
Chen Chuan acknowledged. The control from the Fusion Zone to the Central City was relatively strict, but the other way around was more relaxed, especially for criminals. If they wanted to go to the Fusion Zone, they might be allowed to do so directly, as they would inevitably rely on the military base there.
Alone in the wilderness, one might not survive even a night. If they approached the military base, they would either be captured or sent straight to the frontlines as cannon fodder.
Chen Chuan looked at Fang Zhixin and said, "If you encounter any difficulties, feel free to contact me again. In the Fusion Zone, many things operate under a different set of rules."
Fang Zhixin nodded in acknowledgment, then took a step back and saluted Chen Chuan. "Thank you, Captain Chen. I won't trouble you further. I'll be leaving now, and I'd appreciate it if you could take good care of Xiao Jin."
Chen Chuan replied, "I will." After a brief pause, he added, "Assistant Fang, please wait a moment."
Chen Chuan stepped out, and after some time, he returned with a medical kit from the Handling Bureau. "You're injured. Take this with you. I've already informed the people outside, and no one will bother you."
Fang Zhixin didn't refuse the kind offer. He nodded again and saluted before leaving with the kit, soon disappearing into the darkness of the night.
After Fang Zhixin left, Chen Chuan emerged from the building. Yuan Qiuyuan was waiting outside and saluted, saying, "Captain, all the suspects have been captured. No one has escaped from the scene."
Chen Chuan nodded and headed towards his official vehicle, which had already arrived. A duty soldier opened the car door for him, and he got in. He tapped on his Dimensional Token and instructed, "Team, dismiss."
The vehicle slowly started, and the Handling Bureau and City Security Force began to withdraw. The combat creatures in the field, guided by the field information, also returned to their original areas.
Chen Chuan looked up at the sky and saw a distant airship moving away. Given its large size, he decided to let the bureau handle it. As for the data, he didn't plan to retrieve it immediately.
Those who knew about his recent interaction with Fang Zhixin would likely keep an eye on him for a while, so he decided to wait a few days.
The convoy returned to the Handling Bureau, where all the captured individuals were detained and immediately interrogated and screened.
Chen Chuan went back to his office to await the results and picked up a portion of the documents to review. After about half an hour, the results were in.
The head of the interrogation team personally delivered the report to Chen Chuan. "Director Chen, according to the investigation, all of them were hired by a company called 'Luxing' from abroad."
"A hired company?"
"Yes, this company was established less than three years ago, but there are many unclear financial transactions. Currently, only one of the company's upper management is still in the Central City, and we need to conduct a special interrogation, right?"
Chen Chuan replied, "No need. Just follow the standard procedure."
He was well aware that the company was backed by the Union, but they were cautious and didn't act directly. Instead, they operated through the hired company, making it impossible to trace anything back to them even if an investigation were conducted.
He glanced at the documents, which were the same as the ones provided by An Dun. All the fighters were from Hold Roga, a distant place. It would take a significant amount of time for mercenaries to travel here, so the Union must have made thorough preparations within the three months following the split of the Mother Worm.
As he was thinking, a notification sound suddenly came from the Dimensional Token, followed by An Dun's voice, "Director Chen, the diplomatic team from the Linaxus Federation has arrived at the port. The bureau is currently allocating field resources and is unable to provide you with surveillance services for the Joint Union's direction. Please understand."
Chen Chuan's eyes flickered slightly. Had the Linaxus Federation arrived?
He immediately tapped on the field screen in his office, and after a while, a beam of light shone down. It flickered and blurred for a moment before gradually becoming clearer.
The scene revealed the situation at the Ji Yang District port, where several large warships could be faintly seen docked.
Unlike the Union, the Linaxus Federation had arrived aboard an ocean-going escort fleet, as per the prior notification. The main ship carrying the delegation was accompanied by six warships, three of which would dock at the Ji Yang District port with the main ship, while the other three would remain at different ports.
Since this was an official diplomatic team, the Government Hall and Municipal Parliament had sent representatives to welcome them, including Manager Wen from the Handling Bureau. The port was filled with security personnel, armed soldiers, and armored vehicles blocking the main passageways.
The diplomatic team was originally scheduled to arrive in the afternoon, but they seemed to be running a bit late. It was already past ten in the evening, but the port was still brightly lit.
As Chen Chuan watched, he saw a wide ramp being lowered from the transport boat that had docked alongside the main ship. Several armored transport vehicles from the Linaxus Beast Corporation emerged and lined up on both sides, forming two walls of protection akin to steel barriers.
Then, heavy footsteps were heard, and as the shadows gradually cleared, towering figures over four meters tall emerged from within.
