Chapter 671: I Just Feel Like I've Awakened
Chapter 671: I Just Feel Like I’ve Awakened
A black shadow, like an eerie tentacle, slowly emerged from the ground, wrapping around the man’s neck.
The man, however, turned his head as if he couldn’t feel a thing, looking at the girl being questioned by the police in the distance.
I almost forgot about this kid... A shadow of coldness flashed in his eyes.
He was certain he hadn’t been mistaken. If not for the child’s familiar using Psychic Power, how could he have failed to summon his own familiar?
And it was impossible for him to have revealed that incident in front of so many people.
But it didn’t matter. Although it was troublesome, it wasn’t unsolvable. His reputation, however, might take a while to recover.
Elisa is really something. So young, yet harboring such deep resentment, to attract a Grudgebound...
The man wanted to take out his mobile phone and vent to his lover, but then he remembered his hand was broken and he couldn’t move it.
Damn... The man looked up at the sky, suppressing his anger.
Well, at least I’m still alive.
Just as he was thinking this, a familiar face appeared above him, blocking out the sunlight.
The man’s pupils suddenly constricted, his expression filled with utmost terror.
He tried to cry for help, but the next second, his neck was seized with intense pain, and the world in his eyes turned into the concrete ground.
...
“Ahhh!!!”
A shrill scream echoed.
Qiao Sang, who was talking to the police, followed the sound and saw the man, who had been lying flat on the ground, with his head twisted 180 degrees, face down, in a very eerie manner.
Beside him lay a pale, blood-stained boy in a blue hooded sweatshirt.
At that moment, Qiao Sang couldn’t describe her feelings.
Honestly, despite having seen various news reports, this was the first time she had witnessed such a brutal scene in person.
The police officers nearby rushed over.
“Xunxun?”
The Treasure Seeker cautiously called out, asking if it should absorb the negative emotional energy?
“I’m fine, no need.” Qiao Sang replied.
“Xunxun...”
The Treasure Seeker sighed. Absorbing negative energy was no fun at all.
...
“Name.”
“Qiao Sang.”
“Age.”
“Sixteen.”
“Why were you at the morgue?”
“I was participating in the Ghost Pet Negative Energy Collection Contest.”
At the police station, Qiao Sang was giving a statement about her familiar.
After the statement was completed, she asked:
“Was the Grudgebound caught?”
“No,” the police officer comforted her, “but you don’t need to worry. As long as you haven’t died a violent death or caused someone else’s death, the Grudgebound won’t come for you.”
I’m not worried about that... Qiao Sang thought to herself, then asked, “Can I go now?”
“Yes,” the police officer nodded.
Qiao Sang stepped out of the police station, noticing it was already dark.
“Xunxun~”
The Treasure Seeker appeared beside her, playing with 3D Shadow Control like it was a skipping rope.
“What are you doing?” Qiao Sang glanced at it.
“Xunxun~”
The Treasure Seeker called out sweetly, indicating it was practicing Shadow Control.
Qiao Sang was taken aback. “Why are you suddenly practicing Shadow Control?”
“Xunxun~”
The Treasure Seeker grinned, showing a “I just feel like practicing” expression.
Qiao Sang looked at it silently, her eyes saying, “Do you really expect me to believe that?”
“Xunxun...”
The Treasure Seeker’s expression stiffened, then it waved its hand helplessly.
It remembered that Qiao Sang’s mood always improved whenever it practiced.
It just wanted its Beastmaster to feel better.
Qiao Sang was deeply moved, about to say that it didn’t need to practice, that a good sleep would improve her mood. But then she remembered how lazy the Treasure Seeker had been lately, procrastinating on training and staying up late on electronic devices, and held back her words.
“Xunxun~”
The Treasure Seeker blinked its eyes at its Beastmaster.
“You’re right,” Qiao Sang coughed, “seeing you practice does make me feel better. You can continue.”
“Xunxun...”
The Treasure Seeker felt something was off, but sensing that its Beastmaster’s negative emotional energy was indeed decreasing, its eyes lit up, and it continued to practice 3D Shadow Control.
Qiao Sang, seeing this, suppressed a smile and checked the time on her mobile phone.
8:23 PM.
The three hours of the match had long passed.
The rankings were probably out, and the emotional energy collection bottle was still with her. She’d have to find a time to return it...
Deep in thought, a voice sounded beside him:
"Number 113."
Qiao Sang turned to look, somewhat surprised. "Number 98, what are you doing here too?"
"I'm here to give my statement as well", the woman said, moving closer.
Soon, she saw the Treasure Seeker "playing with the string."
"This, is Shadow Control?" The woman's face showed astonishment.
She wasn't particularly surprised that this Ghost-type Companion Beast could do this move; after all, it knew Spatial Shift, a Psychic-type skill. But she had never imagined that a high-level skill like Shadow Control could be used in such a playful way!
Qiao Sang nodded, shifting the topic. "The match is over. Are you going to return the Emotion Energy Collector now or tomorrow?"
"No need to return it", the woman replied, regaining her composure. "We have the contact information, and the organizers will come to collect it. Besides, today's match was live-streamed, so the audience knows we went to the police station."
Qiao Sang nodded. "I'll be leaving then."
"Wait", the woman called out. "Let's go together."
"Are we going the same way?" Qiao Sang asked.
The woman smiled. "We can go the same way."
Qiao Sang was speechless for a moment, then started walking towards his rented place, following the navigation.
The woman tried to strike up a conversation. "You seem a bit down?"
"Am I?" Qiao Sang replied coolly.
"Yes", the woman said earnestly. "Backstage today, you weren't very talkative, but your mood was much better."
Qiao Sang fell silent for a moment. "This is the first time I've encountered something like this."
The woman laughed. "Are you scared?"
"No", Qiao Sang said, pausing before adding with a self-deprecating tone, "Maybe it's just my sympathy getting the better of me, feeling sorry for those two kids."
The woman was silent for a few seconds, then spoke softly. "I saw everything."
"What did you see?"
"You had your Ghost-type Companion Beast control that scumbag in front of the Grudgebound. But when I mentioned the girl's soul would disappear, you made the scumbag move away from the Grudgebound."
Qiao Sang remained calm. "I knew from the start that the Grudgebound's help came at the cost of a soul. When I saw the little girl and that man, I instinctively thought the bad guy should get what he deserves. This thought made me forget the consequences of the Grudgebound's help. Thankfully, you reminded me."
In the evening breeze, the woman sighed. "Even if you hadn't made the scumbag move away from the Grudgebound, what difference would it have made? You're a Beastmaster, and the police would have blamed everything on the Grudgebound, knowing you have a child to protect. You understand that."
"You're sad because the little girl's soul would have disappeared along with the scumbag's punishment."
Qiao Sang looked resigned. "You can't always have it all."
"Who said that?" the woman smiled.
Qiao Sang glanced at her.
She continued, "The Grudgebound is just a General-Class Companion Beast. Above General-Class are Royal Tier and Imperial Tier. There are many familiars that can counter and surpass it. You can't have everything now because you haven't reached that level yet."
"Your hesitation today is only because your abilities haven't caught up with your desires."
"Give it another twenty years, and you won't need the Grudgebound. You'll be able to see people's souls yourself, communicate directly, and help as you see fit."
"Even if the Grudgebound swallows a soul, you could make it regurgitate."
"Alternatively, you can have your familiar learn skills like Memory Manifestation. When you encounter similar situations in the future, it won't be such a hassle. These skills can expose the true faces of scumbags."
Then, she changed the subject. "But you did great today, better than me. You even saved me."
Qiao Sang remained silent for a long time.
The words "your abilities haven't caught up with your desires" echoed in her mind.
Right.
She felt so powerless today because she realized she couldn't do anything she wanted.
Qiao Sang suddenly felt a sharp pain in her head.
At that moment, a "Xunxun" sound came from beside her.
Qiao Sang turned to see Treasure Seeker looking worried.
"What's wrong?" the woman asked, noticing the commotion.
"I'm fine", Qiao Sang said, the pain suddenly gone, replaced by a clear mind. She paused, then said seriously, "I just feel like I've had a realization."
The woman: "???"
Treasure Seeker: "???"
"By the way, I'm Qiao Sang", Qiao Sang said. "What's your name?"
"I'm Dorine", the woman replied.
