Chapter 670: The Dark Mage
Chapter 670: The Dark Mage
"Vivian, what's wrong?" Alice asked, noticing Vivian's demeanor.
Alice immediately crouched down and reached out to touch Vivian's head.
"Your body seems fine, no sickness."
"But inside you, it's as if some skill is constantly devouring..."
Vivian struggled free from Alice's grasp.
"My father is a Law Knight!"
"..."
In an instant, Alice understood everything.
She sighed inwardly.
As a Righteous One of the City of Law, Alice was well aware of the relationship between Law Knights and her own profession. She also understood what the young girl was thinking, especially in a world like this.
So, Alice directly embraced Vivian, her voice filled with a protective will. She gently comforted the child in her arms:
"I'm sorry. It's because of us, these incompetent folks fighting each other, that you've encountered such misfortune."
Vivian shook her head in Alice's embrace.
After her initial impulse, she showed her usual understanding:
"No, I know, it wasn't you."
"Mr. Lindsey told me that the Righteous Ones are just one type of Awakened, and you all have an unavoidable serious flaw."
"..."
Alice didn't respond or argue.
Perhaps every person who chose the path of the Righteous One had their own inner convictions. Whether these convictions aligned with the moral concepts of the current world or not, they only followed their own inner choices.
"Let's go, quickly head north!"
"Mr. Lindsey instructed us. There's also a blacksmith over there. We should hurry up and finish the work to live up to his expectations!"
At that moment, several laborers discussing something ran past not far away.
Alice and Vivian were drawn to them, so they followed in the direction the laborers had come from.
The eastern side of the dungeon.
The two girls saw Lindsey's figure again.
He was standing in front of a relatively large pointed tower.
Near the watchtower on the eastern side of the dungeon, a multi-story tower was built from dark, black rocks, with each layer of rocks forming windows that emitted a faint blue light, creating an eerie atmosphere.
From a distance, this place resembled a witch's abode from a fairy tale, and even if a black dragon were to fly out, it wouldn't seem out of place.
This was the newly constructed Cursed Library.
It also fit the dungeon's consistent gloomy and dark style.
Lindsey, who was examining the building, naturally heard the footsteps of the two approaching. He turned his head:
"Alice, Vivian, you're here too."
"This is the Cursed Library, a building I just created. It can grant people the ability to learn and cast magic. Do you want to go inside and try it out?"
Magic? Wizards? Alice immediately thought of the rarest Awakened profession in the entire universe.
"This building bestows the skills of a wizard?"
Lindsey, knowing that the other party was referring to the great wizard, Violet-Black, shook his head in denial:
"It's different. It's an independent and completely new... hard to describe, perhaps similar to the abilities in a game? Anyway, I'll go in first and demonstrate it to you."
Lindsey, being the first to enter the Cursed Library, did so without hesitation.
Due to his powerful physique, infusing knowledge was a simple task. In just a few minutes, Lindsey emerged with his mind filled with peculiar knowledge.
The magic of the Cursed Library was different from that of other buildings. After infusing the corresponding knowledge into the learner, those who wished to become wizards had to analyze and comprehend the content themselves.
As they gained a clearer understanding, they could unlock a greater number of more powerful spells.
The knowledge provided by the Cursed Library, if thoroughly studied, could teach one first to third-level Dark Magic.
"To learn magic, one must study hard. But how can I demonstrate skills to others?"
Lindsey's brows furrowed for a moment, then relaxed.
He promptly opened the Attribute Panel and allocated the experience points he had accumulated to the newly added Dark Magic skill.
[Dark Magic 0 → 1 → 2 → 3]
Directly allocating points... Using the rewards from his Effort Adventure was this easy and enjoyable! It felt like riding a rocket, fast and exhilarating.
In the blink of an eye, Lindsey had mastered one spell each of first, second, and third-level Dark Magic.
[Weakness Curse - A spell that weakens an enemy by draining a portion of their health using magical power.]
[Blindness - A spell that temporarily blinds an enemy, with the duration depending on the target's strength.]
[Basic Contract - A spell that utilizes magical power to establish fundamental trades, pacts, and honest contracts.]
As soon as Lindsey stepped out, Alice, who had been waiting at the library entrance, immediately asked:
"Lindsey, how was it?"
"Not bad," Lindsey nodded slightly. "Is it okay if I use you as a test subject for my magic?"
Alice felt a bit odd about it.
But looking around, she knew she couldn't possibly ask Vivian to be the test subject, so she confidently straightened her chest, saying:
"My recovery is going well, so go ahead!"
"..."
"Huh? My health... What's happening?"
A moment later, Alice's expression turned peculiar.
She suddenly lost a portion of her health.
The Righteous Walker Maiden could sense that Lindsey was using some kind of power, but it was vastly different from ordinary Essence Skills.
Lindsey smiled and explained:
"This is the magic I was talking about."
Alice pursed her lips in evaluation:
"Indeed, it's very interesting. This magic should be effective against ordinary people or lower-level Awakened in combat. However, against higher-level Awakened, it might not work as well. Taking myself as an example, if I had strengthened my will just now, I could have resisted this spell."
"There's nothing in the world that can be achieved instantly," Lindsey expressed understanding and then invited, "How about it? Do you want to give it a try?"
Alice shook her head decisively:
"No, I'm content with my own powers."
Lindsey didn't insist and instead turned his attention to Vivian:
"Vivian, why don't you give it a try?"
Vivian, of course, couldn't refuse.
She nodded lightly and voluntarily stepped into the Cursed Library to receive its knowledge.
After Vivian left, Alice spoke to Lindsey again:
"Through my conversation with Vivian and the experiences I've gathered from others in the city, I've confirmed the situation in this world."
Lindsey, still curious, asked:
"So, what's your decision as a student of Forest Academy?"
"If it's as you say, and the connection between worlds has been severed, then without a doubt, our goal of returning to the City of Law aligns," replied Alice, a student of the Forest Capital.
Lindsey didn't hesitate to make a request:
"That's convenient, as I have a task for you."
Alice inquired:
"What is it?"
Lindsey responded:
"War."
