Chapter 67: The Decisive Battle
Chapter 67: The Decisive Battle
"Please invite examinee no. 37, Akira Yu, and examinee no. 38, Uchiha Obito, to enter the examination venue."
Akira Yu froze in his tracks when he heard that his opponent was Obito.
Undoubtedly, Obito was the last person any student from Class 1-I wanted to face.
And for a good reason - Obito was incredibly strong.
In the previous exam, Obito had dominated and secured first place in both the class and the grade level. Even the second-place student, Anko Mitarashi, stood no chance against him.
The practical exam scores were determined by performance in battle. If one were swiftly defeated, the proctor might not be able to adequately assess their abilities, leading to a lower score.
But since the lots had already been cast, pairing him with Obito as an opponent, Akira could only accept his fate and enter the exam venue.
As soon as Mu Yue signaled the start of the exam, Akira, disregarding all else, unleashed a barrage of Shadow Clones, showcasing his proficiency in the technique.
"This student seems to have a good understanding of the scoring criteria," Ueda Aya nodded in approval, not sensing anything amiss with Akira's performance.
Obito watched quietly as Akira displayed his skills, then casually threw two shuriken to dispel the clones before rushing forward and knocking Akira down with two swift punches.
"There's a huge gap in their abilities," Ueda Aya remarked, unable to discern any noticeable improvements in Obito's strength since the last exam.
Akira's skills paled in comparison to Obito's, making it challenging to gauge his true potential.
With the battle between examinees no. 39 and no. 40 concluding, Ueda Aya completed the first round of scoring.
She glanced over the results, and among the forty students, not a single one had a score below 8. The average was remarkably high.
"With these results, Mu Yue, you'll probably receive more praise from the Third Hokage. I might even get called in for questioning when these scores are reported," Ueda Aya joked.
"Then we'll have to go through the inquiry together," Mu Yue replied, showing his scoring sheet to Ueda Aya, which reflected a similar average to hers.
Although these were his students, he saw no need to downplay their achievements out of courtesy. Their exceptional performance deserved recognition.
As the battles unfolded, it was inevitable that friends would face each other. Kamizuki Izumo tearfully eliminated Kotetsu Hagane, and Anko Mitarashi did the same to Kamizuki Izumo.
"Hahaha, your Confusion Technique needs work, Kotetsu," Kamizuki Izumo said, masking his sadness with a smile as he comforted his close friend.
Kotetsu Hagane: ...
He vowed to train tirelessly during the holidays and defeat Kamizuki Izumo next semester to reclaim his pride.
"Hahaha, Izumo, Kotetsu, your ninjutsu skills are no match for my genius, Mitarashi Anko," Anko Mitarashi, who had advanced to the class finals, boasted with her hands on her hips.
The two friends exchanged a glance, deciding that they would strike back with full force when the theoretical exam results were announced.
"Please invite examinees Mitarashi Anko and Uchiha Obito to enter the examination venue," the class practical exam was nearing its final stage.
Ueda Aya watched this battle intently, as Anko Mitarashi was the second-place student in the previous exam and could be considered the strongest in the first grade after Obito. This match would likely bring out the best in Obito.
Anko Mitarashi was well aware of Obito's prowess, so she began the battle by immediately employing the Confusion Technique.
However, she made a few adjustments this time. She first created seven clones of Obito, using them as a distraction while she transformed herself into Obito's likeness and created another clone that resembled her.
But Obito wasn't as easily fooled as the average student. Despite the multitude of illusions obscuring his vision, he never lost sight of the real Anko Mitarashi. With a Body Flicker Technique, he appeared by her side and swiftly defeated her.
"Body Flicker Technique, huh? I suppose we'll have to wait until he's in the fourth-grade practical exam to see more of his capabilities," Ueda Aya mused to herself.
The battle between Anko Mitarashi and Obito was also one-sided, but Obito demonstrated a bit more of his skills this time.
With Obito securing first place in the class practical exam, the second day of the grade-level practical exams came to an end.
As Mu Yue and Ueda Aya made their way back to the office, they encountered a frantic Chiyuki Yu
"I just don't understand it! How did Might Guy and Shisui Uchiha become so strong?" Chiyu Yu exclaimed, perplexed. He hadn't noticed anything extraordinary about them during class.
This time, he had been assigned to proctor their class, and after witnessing their performances throughout the day, he felt that even Hyuga Hiashi might not be able to defeat them.
Shikamaru Nara and Choji Akimichi found it odd that these two, who were notoriously known as the class delinquents, had suddenly become so formidable under Iruka Umino's watch. Could it be that he was an unrecognized teaching genius? Iruka Umino, who considered himself a competent teacher, quickly dismissed this idea because he also taught a third-grade class, and their overall performance was only average.
Chiyu Valley spotted Mu Yue and Ueda Aya and shared his observations with them
"Perhaps they've been quietly honing their skills all this time?" Ueda Aya speculated.
"Regardless, isn't it a good thing that our students are strong?" Mu Yue replied with a smile.
Chiya Yu felt that Mu Yue's words made sense. There was no need to dwell on why they had become so formidable this semester; the bonuses the school offered were very real.
...
The third day of the grade-level practical exams commenced.
The proctor for these exams was selected through a random draw among the grade-level proctors, and Ueda Aya was chosen. Mu Yue was not selected.
However, as a first-grade teacher, Mu Yue still decided to observe for a while.
After the first round of scoring, Ueda Aya realized that some of the top two students from certain classes were not as skilled as the ninjutsu prodigies from Mu Yue's class.
"We need to adjust this rule of allowing only two students per class. If not for this restriction, at least six students from Class 1-I would have made it into the top eight," Ueda Aya thought to herself.
She felt that this rule was slightly unfair to classes with an exceptionally high overall standard, like Mu Yue's.
Despite having the strength, some students were denied the opportunity to participate in the grade-level practical exams.
Mu Yue only stayed for the first round before leaving for the fourth-grade practical exam venue.
There was no doubt that Obito would secure first place, and Mu Yue was more interested in observing the fourth-grade students.
Both Might Guy and Shisui Uchiha had training missions that required them to attain first place.
With two months of arduous training as a foundation, Mu Yue anticipated that the rewards upon completing these missions would be substantial, and he looked forward to seeing the results.
When Mu Yue arrived, the fourth-grade students had just finished their first round and were progressing to the quarterfinals.
"Please invite examinee no. 1, Hyuga Hiashi, and examinee no. 4, Might Guy, to enter the examination venue."
As the proctor's voice rang out, the surrounding students began whispering among themselves.
Based on the previous exam results, this match was undoubtedly the highlight of the grade-level practical exams, as it pitted the first and second-place finishers from the last exam against each other.
