Chapter 67: Another Path to Success
Chapter 67: Another Path to Success
The Thunder Moon slipped away like a piece of wood in a river, swirling and vanishing from sight.
The weather grew increasingly hot with each passing day.
Not long after the start of the Frost Blossom Moon, Su Nan successfully constructed his sixth star ring.
As expected, his mental attribute broke through the 20-point barrier.
Su Nan Yanez, Human Male
Mental: 20.36 / Physical: 15.45
Skills:
- Star Ring Meditation Level 7 (21/80,000)
- Alchemy Level 4 (256/10,000)
- Biological Modification Level 2 (903/3,000)
- Puppet Crafting Level 2 (2,822/3,000)
- Magic Item Crafting Level 1 (502/1,000)
"Eighty thousand proficiency points, it will probably take more than three months to level up."
Su Nan nodded to himself.
One of the requirements to advance to a Third-Class Wizard Apprentice is to construct nine star rings.
He currently needed three more.
At his current pace, he should be able to complete them in two to three years.
Then, it would just be a matter of increasing his mental power.
"Mental power can be increased by consuming the Illusionary Potion."
"The key ingredient, the Blood Mandrake, is already in my possession. The remaining materials can be commissioned to the Firefox Guild, and it's just a matter of time before they are all gathered."
During this period, Su Nan's Alchemy skill had broken through to Level 4 due to his extensive potion-making.
At this level, he was now capable of attempting to create Second-Class potions.
Notably, with the skill upgrade, the success rate for creating Lesser Vigor Potions and Lesser Dragon Blood Potions had increased to over 40%.
The improved success rate also reduced the cost of potions, increasing his profits significantly and providing some relief to his financial strain.
"The Clay Golems and Stone Golems are already manufactured. I won't need to spend much time on golem crafting anymore."
The base required 10 Clay Golems and 50 Stone Golems, which Su Nan had completed through overtime work.
Additionally, he had manufactured 30 extra Clay Golems and handed them to Koi to form a supply corps.
"The Silver Moon Flower seeds and Red Vein Fruits have been ordered from the Firefox Guild, but they will take some time to arrive."
Su Nan began to consider his next steps.
Apart from training and spell learning, he had two main tasks ahead.
The first was to craft Iron Golems.
Each Iron Golem weighed over 10 tons and required at least an equal weight of pure iron.
The higher the quality of the iron used, the stronger the final Iron Golem would be.
Su Nan planned to use Blackstone Iron.
Since Blackstone Iron is lighter than refined iron of the same volume, the resulting Iron Golem would be more agile.
However, the Blackstone Iron in the warehouse had just run out, and he would have to wait for a new shipment from Blackstone City before he could begin crafting the Iron Golems.
The second task was to create magic items.
Su Nan flicked his wrist, and a book appeared in his palm.
The Compendium of Low-Class Magic Items!
This book, left by Master Amy, contained over a hundred types of Alchemical and Glowing magic items, covering a wide variety.
Su Nan currently had a decent number of magic items, but they were all Alchemical level.
He planned to create a few Glowing magic items for himself, including spatial, offensive, and defensive items, with at least one of each.
However, the difficulty of crafting Glowing magic items was much higher than Alchemical items. With his current Level 1 Magic Item Crafting skill, the success rate would be dismally low.
"My Magic Item Crafting skill is less than 500 points away from leveling up. I'll start by crafting some Alchemical magic items to practice, and it will be a good opportunity to update the equipment for the others."
Su Nan went to the workshop and picked up a longsword from the weapon rack.
The rack was filled with over a hundred weapons of various types, including swords, spears, and halberds, all provided by Koi.
He planned to use these weapons to create enchanted weapons.
Enchanted weapons are a major category of Alchemical magic items.
They are primarily used by knights.
Many wizards create enchanted weapons for their followers to enhance their combat capabilities.
Some wizards skilled in magic item crafting can even temporarily imbue their knights' weapons with magical properties using silver, gold, and other metals during battle.
These are also known as temporary enchanted weapons.
Su Nan estimated that he would need to raise his Magic Item Crafting skill to Level 4 to master this technique.
Placing the longsword on the workbench, Su Nan began to prepare the materials.
Common materials used in crafting magic items include various precious metals, gems, and magic stones.
Depending on the specific characteristics of the magic item, sometimes special materials are required.
For example, creating spatial magic items generally requires star sand.
Crafting wands typically requires mithril.
Enchanted weapons are the simplest, requiring only basic materials and no additional components.
Compared to 'proper' magic items, enchanted weapons are relatively easier to craft at the Alchemical level.
Under the bright light, silver ingots, gems, and magic stones melted in Su Nan's palm, transforming into fine threads under his fingers. As he gently touched the blade, the threads slowly merged into the longsword, leaving intricate patterns on its surface.
A visible silvery-white sheen gradually emerged from the blade's surface.
The entire process took about ten minutes.
With the final pattern completed, the silver thread broke off from Su Nan's fingertips. The longsword flashed with light, now imbued with a mysterious aura that was hard to describe.
"Not bad, my skills haven't gotten rusty!"
A smile spread across Su Nan's lips as he placed the longsword into the synthesis cube.
Enchanted Weapon (Alchemical Level/Sub-Magic Item) with [Black Steel] characteristic: significantly increased hardness, less prone to damage, and reduced loss of attached martial qi.
Alchemical-level enchanted weapons typically have characteristics such as [Black Steel], [Sharpness], and [Blood Glow].
Better ones might have [Weak Elemental Damage] and [Qi Focus].
The former adds a weak elemental damage effect to the weapon.
The latter enhances the power of martial qi.
Generally, enchanted weapons can only have one magic characteristic.
Only exceptionally skilled wizards can imbue a single enchanted weapon with multiple characteristics.
Of course, wizards at that level usually wouldn't bother with such a labor-intensive task.
Wouldn't it be better to craft a Glowing-level magic item with the same effort?
In addition to these characteristics, enchanted weapons have a feature that isn't quite a characteristic.
Due to the infusion of magic, enchanted weapons have a significantly higher compatibility with martial qi compared to ordinary weapons.
This means that when martial qi is attached, the additional loss is greatly reduced.
Because of this, even enchanted weapons that fail to gain a specific characteristic are still highly sought after by knights.
"Speaking of which, can enchanted weapons with different characteristics be combined?"
A flash of inspiration struck Su Nan.
If it were possible, couldn't he create an enchanted weapon with over a dozen characteristics?
With that thought, Su Nan immediately began his experiment.
Over the next few hours, he crafted over twenty enchanted weapons.
The success rate was decent, with about three out of every five attempts being successful.
Each successful attempt added around twenty points to his proficiency, while failures still added seven to eight points.
After crafting over twenty enchanted weapons, his Magic Item Crafting skill smoothly advanced to Level 2.
However, Su Nan was disappointed to find that enchanted weapons with different characteristics could not be combined.
"Of course, enchanted weapons with different characteristics are essentially different items, so it's not surprising they can't be combined."
Enchanted weapons with the same characteristic, on the other hand, could be combined.
The combined enchanted weapon would have its characteristic effects further enhanced.
For example, Su Nan used three longswords with the [Sharpness] characteristic to create a longsword with the [Armor-Piercing] characteristic, which could easily break through the defenses of a fine suit of armor.
Although the tier didn't advance beyond the Alchemical level, this longsword's power was on par with 'proper' magic items like the Blood Vine Ring and the Magic Coin.
"Since magic items with the same characteristic can be combined, I can use Alchemical-level magic items to synthesize Glowing-level magic items, or even wizard tools!"
The materials for Glowing-level magic items are generally quite rare and hard to find.
The materials for wizard tools are even rarer.
In contrast, the materials for Alchemical-level magic items are much more common.
If he could use Alchemical-level materials to synthesize Glowing-level items or even wizard tools, it would save him a lot of effort.
Su Nan felt a surge of excitement, feeling like he had found a new path to success.
