Chapter 668: The Information
Chapter 668: The Information
Fang Zhixin plummeted from the sky, landing on the ground, only to find himself in the crossfire of gunmen once again. The bullets relentlessly pierced the air, targeting his every move.
The shooters had pre-determined firing coordinates, and each position was manned by a designated gunman. Even if they weren't all third-limitation fighters, it didn't matter. There was no need to observe their every action; all they needed was to listen for cues from those observing nearby.
As Fang Zhixin descended, his body was riddled with bullets from various directions, not just one.
However, being a third-limitation fighter, these were mere flesh wounds, causing him little hindrance. His movements remained agile and swift. After landing, he lightly touched down with his toes, creating a rustling sound as he burst through, crashing into a wall with a loud bang before dashing off in one direction.
After breaking through several rooms, he leaped forward and suddenly vanished from the besiegers' sight.
Moments later, footsteps surrounded him from all directions. As they drew near, these individuals aimed their guns downward, only to discover an abandoned sewer pit where the person had disappeared.
Unsure of where it led, some of the pursuers immediately jumped down to search.
However, they soon realized that the sewers below were a maze of interconnected passages with almost no light. There were vagrants and criminals hiding in the darkness, and it seemed to connect to the lower district. The search was extremely challenging, as they could only follow the faint traces left behind initially, but soon lost all leads. Thus, by nightfall, the search team withdrew.
At the outskirts of Ji Yang District, Fang Zhixin emerged from a modified sewer entrance. He hadn't randomly chosen a hiding place; he had planned his escape route beforehand.
This particular sewer led to a pre-prepared safe house.
Upon reaching the surface, he took out the crushed nutrient paste from his pocket, stuffed it into his mouth, and swallowed it. After ensuring no one was watching, he swiftly darted through the streets, reaching a building in about ten minutes, where he climbed inside.
Only then did he finally relax.
But as he let his guard down, a numbing sensation crept over him. He raised his hand to inspect it and noticed numerous red dots where the needles had pricked his arm.
The fine, long spikes on those thorns were clearly problematic, seemingly coated with some kind of toxin that made his entire body feel numb. He tried to pluck them out, but they wouldn't budge. The muscles only squeezed tighter, and forcing them might cause them to break off inside, making removal difficult.
Furthermore, the bullets embedded in his body seemed alive, crawling deeper into his flesh upon entry. He suspected these were specially designed biological bullets.
Fang Zhixin couldn't fathom the origins of these individuals who possessed such unique biological weapons; they were undoubtedly formidable.
He pondered for a moment, realizing these people weren't from the government or the temporary special action committee. Moreover, he had paid close attention to their conversations, and the faint voices he overheard didn't sound like Dashi language; instead, they resembled the speech of Norland.
Sensing something amiss, he tried to connect this with recent events and caught a glimpse of something. After some deliberation, he made a decision. First, he located the world credentials hidden in the safe house, put them on, and then grabbed some weapons and equipment. Fully geared up, he took a few nutrient pastes and left the place.
Inside Xuan Gong Tower, Chen Chuan was practicing energy techniques in his apartment when he suddenly heard a sound from the world credentials, which quickly disappeared. This happened three times.
Clearly, someone was trying to avoid An Dun's information tracking.
Chen Chuan contemplated for a moment, temporarily blocking An Dun's signal, and then attempted to contact the person who had been trying to reach him. After a while, the call connected, and a hoarse, weary voice came through, "Captain Chen, is that you?"
Chen Chuan recognized the voice, "Fang Zhixin?"
"Yes, it's me."
Fang Zhixin spoke hurriedly, "Can we meet? I have something important to tell you." He added, "Someone is pursuing me, but they're not government officials. I overheard them speaking, and they sound like foreigners."
Chen Chuan's eyes flickered upon hearing this. He asked, "Where are you?"
Fang Zhixin immediately reported his location.
Chen Chuan said, "Wait for me there; I'm coming right now."
"Okay, they've been searching for me. I'll end the call now."
After hanging up, Chen Chuan considered his options. Instead of calling his dedicated vehicle, he went downstairs and drove his Gadder car to the specified location.
On the way, he used the world credentials to contact Yuan Qiuyuan and the other two. He gave them detailed instructions.
Over an hour later, Chen Chuan arrived at the area Fang Zhixin had mentioned. He exited his car and headed toward a particular building—a small, abandoned shop near Hongsheng District.
After about twenty steps, he sensed someone observing him from within, likely Fang Zhixin. Then, a flashlight shone from the broken window, signaling him.
Chen Chuan approached the building, entering through the doorless entrance. He found Fang Zhixin sitting on a collapsed counter. Upon seeing Chen Chuan, Fang Zhixin's first words were, "Captain Chen, I've been away for so long. How's Xiao Jin doing?"
Chen Chuan nodded, "Chen Xiaojin hasn't been involved in anything recently."
Fang Zhixin seemed to relax a little after hearing this. He said, "I just checked the World Credential platform and I think I might know who these people are."
"Who are they?" Chen Chuan asked.
"Most likely members of the Union," Fang Zhixin replied with a serious expression. "The damage to the World Ring will have a series of consequences. In the past, whenever something like this happened, the Union and various countries would compete for the leftover artifacts. I saw on the World Credential that members of the Union are here, so I suspect they're here to capture me."
"What does this have to do with you?" Chen Chuan asked.
Fang Zhixin sighed and said, "To obtain the leftover artifacts, one must know the specific situation of the Convergence Site. And in Jinbei Province, only the teacher is most familiar with that place."
"They probably think that as the teacher's assistant, I also know about this situation. So, they want to find the relevant information through me. This can be seen from the fact that the weapons they used against me were mostly non-lethal, and were only meant to restrict my combat abilities."
Chen Chuan thought for a moment, this deduction seemed reasonable. But Fang Zhixin immediately realized that these documents might actually exist.
In fact, not only did Fang Zhixin know about this, but he also knew a part of it.
Through the spiritual imprint that Chen Bitong had passed on, besides the energy technique, there was also information about the Convergence Site. Now it seems that Chen Bitong had anticipated that today's events might happen.
Fang Zhixin said, "I just asked about Chen Xiaojin, fearing they wouldn't find me and would go after him. Now that you're here, Captain Chen, I feel relieved." He paused and then raised his head to say, "Captain Chen, there's something I need to report..."
At that moment, his expression suddenly changed. He realized that there seemed to be some movement outside, and immediately understood that he had been tracked because he had used the World Credential. But he didn't expect them to arrive so quickly, so he hurriedly said, "Captain Chen? They're here!"
Chen Chuan's expression remained calm as he replied, "I know."
Fang Zhixin was taken aback, but he couldn't help but calm down. He had witnessed the battle between Chen Chuan and Chen Bitong, and even with Chen Bitong's skills, he was still at a disadvantage against Chen Chuan. These people were no match for him.
At that moment, outside the building, several hundred meters away, heavily armed individuals in protective armor gathered from all directions, securing control of nearby high points and setting up machine guns and long-range firearms.
One of them pulled up information from the World Credential and compared it, then spoke to the World Credential, "Reporting, the person talking to the target is likely the Investigation Director from the Processing Bureau. Suspect that the target is surrendering and needs to be questioned on whether to continue the operation."
A cold voice came from the World Credential, "The action plan remains unchanged."
"Understood."
With clear orders, the group's movements noticeably quickened. After reaching a distance of about two to three hundred meters, they placed a box on the ground and pressed the injector for high-energy nutrients inside. Soon after, the top of the box opened, revealing a grid of round holes.
A series of whistling sounds followed, as metal spear-like objects shot out from the holes and penetrated the abandoned shop, one after the other, embedding themselves into the wall with a dull thud.
Fang Zhixin, who had experienced this before, was startled and exclaimed, "Be careful, that's..." But before he could finish, he was astonished to see that the objects remained motionless after piercing the wall.
Chen Chuan spoke naturally, "You're injured, just wait here."
After saying this, he took out a customized protective mask from his pocket and put it on. Then, he stepped outside, where gunfire immediately erupted. However, the bullets had no effect on the protective armor, and they fell to the ground with a clatter.
At that moment, Chen Chuan's eyes flashed, and an invisible wave of energy spread out, affecting a 500-meter radius. The armed personnel within this range fell one by one, with those closer to him being killed instantly, and those farther away fainting on the spot.
The surroundings suddenly became quiet.
Chen Chuan stood still, and after a while, he heard rapid footsteps. Looking towards the end of the street, he saw a figure running towards him.
This person had thick, bushy hair, deep-set eyes, a high nose, and relatively pale skin, appearing to be of mixed race. His arms were thick and long, and he held a whipstick in his hand. As he moved, his steps had a unique rhythm.
As he approached, he casually waved his hands, causing the advertisements and other obstacles on the road to scatter towards Chen Chuan. Simultaneously, he suddenly crouched and lunged forward, swinging the whipstick towards Chen Chuan's ankles.
