Chapter 667: Lanchi Discovers Motherly Standards for Shubellyan
Chapter 667: Lanchi Discovers Motherly Standards for Shubellyan
After regaining his freedom, Lanchi and Talia walked through the streets of Pariah at night, the lights of the Pariah Police Headquarters gradually fading behind them.
They crossed the street to a spacious square, and within half a minute, they had flagged down a magical vehicle.
Lanchi took a few steps forward and informed the Parian driver of their destination, to which the driver nodded and gestured for them to get in.
Soon, they were weaving through the night, with streetlights flickering past the windows.
"You do have some connections," Talia sent through a mental message.
No sooner had they entered the Pariah Police Station when someone received the information and took the initiative to bail him out.
"I am indeed an invited researcher in the Bose Kingdom, but the Southern Continent Card Maker's Association has made my itinerary more private for information security reasons," Lanchi replied silently.
Originally, Professor Bolao had arranged for them to meet the count once they arrived in the Bose Kingdom.
Count Rosalinda did not want too many people in the Bose Kingdom to know about Lanchi's visit, so she did not arrange for anyone from the county government to pick him up. Instead, she asked Sheriff Zefa to inform him to come to the county government.
Of course, the county government was not too far away.
Lanchi and Talia sat quietly, perhaps a little sleepy, and there was not much conversation between them.
Finally, after more than ten minutes, they slowly stopped in front of the gate of a luxurious mansion in the north of Pariah.
This mansion was hidden in a quiet neighborhood of Pariah, away from the hustle and bustle of the city center.
After Lanchi paid the fee, he and Talia got out of the car.
Looking up, they saw that the main building of the Asturias Palace was still brightly lit, like a city that never sleeps.
The gates of the palace were closed, adorned with a deep brown rose pattern, and two guards in classical uniforms stood on either side, solemnly guarding the courtyard.
Before Lanchi and Talia could say anything, the gates opened.
An old butler in a uniform walked out, his posture straight and his face as handsome as a carved knife, like a retired officer.
"Good evening, Mr. Lanchi and Miss Tata. Welcome to the Asturias Palace. The Count is ready to receive you."
The butler's voice was gentle and not as deep and hoarse as one might imagine.
Lanchi and Talia glanced at each other and nodded, following the butler into the palace courtyard.
Passing through a winding garden, they were soon illuminated by a spacious entrance hall.
The walls were adorned with paintings, like a gallery unfolding before them, and the floor was covered with long carpets, giving a sense of nobility as the mansion was decorated like a castle.
Led by the butler, Lanchi and Talia passed through several unique porticos and finally arrived at the palace's reception room.
The decorations here were even more luxurious. The entire wall was made of floor-to-ceiling windows, and the stone walls featured not only reliefs in the style of the Age of Gods but also fountains connected to the interior. Mist rose from the pool, and the soft candlelight and floor lamps filled the room with a warm and fragrant atmosphere.
In this space, a gorgeous woman sat by the window, bathed in moonlight that made her exceptionally dazzling and charming.
She wore a deep red evening dress, and the thin fabric shimmered with rose patterns, accentuating her enchanting figure.
As Lanchi and Talia entered the room, the countess put down her wine glass, stood up, and faced the two with a curious yet friendly and welcoming expression.
"Welcome, Mr. Lanchi and Miss Tata. I am the owner of this mansion, the president of the Southern Continent Card Makers' Association's Bose Branch, Rosalinda Asturias."
The countess's voice was mature and magnetic.
"I apologize for not coming to greet you personally, but if I had done so, it would have been tantamount to indirectly informing others of your examiner status."
Countess Rosalinda extended her hand and invited the two guests to sit down in an extremely elegant manner, then calmly took her seat.
"Not at all. Thank you for your concern. I appreciate that my first stop was a prison, which must have been embarrassing for you," Lanchi replied with a slight bow.
This Countess Rosalinda was not only the administrator in charge of managing the Bose Kingdom Card Makers' Association branch but also a platinum-level card maker and one of the examiners who would be supervising the upcoming exam with Lanchi.
"Professor Bolao must have told you about me?"
Countess Rosalinda asked casually, as if greeting junior students.
"He mentioned it briefly. He said you were a very passionate and steady student, and he hoped we wouldn't cause you any trouble," Lanchi nodded.
Before their departure, Professor Bolao had briefly mentioned that Countess Rosalinda, who would be assisting them, was a close associate of the Barton nobles in the Kingdom of Horton and had friendly relations with several notable figures in the kingdom.
However, she was a little too enthusiastic, and if one didn't feel like conversing with her, it was best to just ignore her.
Strictly speaking, Rosalinda was not Professor Bolao's student. She only sought his guidance on magical engineering matters and addressed him as her teacher in that regard.
In this respect, she was similar to Duke Micheya.
For Professor Bolao to be willing to spare his time for guidance, one's talent and skill must be exceptional.
"Nonsense, how could you cause any trouble? Also, there's no need for formalities here. We'll be colleagues from now on."
Countess Rosalinda revealed a hint of a smile at the corners of her eyes and waved her hand dismissively.
"..."
Talia glanced at Lanchi, recalling that Professor Bolao had not mentioned such a thing. It seemed that Lanchi had taken some liberties with the translation.
But it did seem to be quite effective at pleasing women.
"Well, I thought that this year's Eastern Region Platinum-level Card Maker exam wouldn't be able to take place, but fortunately, you, Lanchi, appeared out of nowhere."
Countess Rosalinda leaned back into the sofa, letting out a long sigh of relief.
"What's going on in the Kingdom of Horton? How are you able to produce so many genius newcomers in the field of card making?"
She turned her gaze back to Lanchi, her interest piqued.
There were many types of geniuses.
Typically, young people who could participate in the Platinum-level Card Maker exam were already considered phenomenal newcomers. However, both Lanchi and Micheya belonged to the ruling class of newcomers who dominated the field without the need for much experience, surpassing others from the very beginning.
"I can't compare to Micheya at the same age. If I were to participate in the Platinum-level Card Maker exam, I could only hope for luck, while Micheya would pass with flying colors."
Lanchi shook his head, musing to himself.
"You're being too modest. Professor Bolao mentioned that you're not a technical talent but a managerial one. For him to give such an evaluation, it's hard to imagine the extent of your true abilities."
Countess Rosalinda laughed,
"But why isn't Shuberry here this time? I heard from Professor Bolao that the three of you get along very well."
She picked up her wine glass and took a sip before looking at Lanchi and Talia inquiringly.
"For safety reasons, it's best to avoid her traveling long distances for now, especially since the Resurrection Church is after her."
Lanchi replied.
"What a pity. I was looking forward to this rare opportunity to get to know her better."
Countess Rosalinda sighed, looking up.
"Don't you get along with her?"
Talia asked, her voice calm, but it was clear that she was concerned about anything related to Shuberry.
"I've met her when she was little, but she didn't like me."
Countess Rosalinda shrugged helplessly, gesturing with her hand to indicate Shuberry's height at the time. She must have been in her twenties then.
"Why?"
Talia's voice became slightly more distant.
If Shuberry didn't like someone, then she probably wouldn't either.
"Maybe it's because I wanted to be her stepmother, but she didn't approve of me?"
Countess Rosalinda replied candidly, not hiding her feelings.
Talia almost choked on her drink.
She hadn't expected the countess to be so blunt.
Lanchi shook his head, lost in his own thoughts.
He had assumed that Shuberry would welcome anyone who wanted to be her mother, but it seemed that she was quite selective.
The three mothers who had earned Shuberry's acceptance so far seemed to share some common traits—they were all aloof, had a demonic aura, and were exceptionally old.
Countess Rosalinda, with her seemingly popular and affable personality, clearly didn't fit Shuberry's ideal image.
"..."
Talia seemed to have caught on to Lanchi's thoughts and bit her lip, reaching behind him and giving his waist a sharp pinch.
Lanchi winced in pain but managed to maintain his composure and keep a straight face.
"By the way, do you like Mr. Micheya?"
Lanchi, gritting his teeth against the pain, steered the conversation away from Rosalinda's attention, not wanting her to notice their little exchange.
"Yes, I've hinted at him several times, and I believe he understood my intentions. But he turned me down each time."
Countess Rosalinda opened up like a book, her mood turning melancholy as she drained her glass,
"I wonder what kind of magic that woman who left him had. How could she make him so infatuated? To be honest, she was a mysterious demon from the Northern Continent, lazy, bad-tempered, and yet he dared to take her into his home. This kind of exclusive devotion really makes me jealous. What's wrong with me?"
The countess slammed her glass down on the table, as if she had found a confidant in Lanchi and Talia, and poured out her grievances.
