Chapter 666: The Grand Scheme
Chapter 666: The Grand Scheme
Brightlight District, on Verdant Tree Street, was home to a residential area for military families, where Chen Xiaojin had been living for a long time. The security level here was high, and Central City paid close attention to this place, carefully inspecting all vehicles and personnel coming in and out.
Around 3 p.m., a long armored vehicle arrived at the street entrance. After presenting their credentials and scanning at the gate, the guards saluted respectfully, and the barriers were raised to let the vehicle pass.
Chen Chuan sat in the car, gazing outside. The road was lined with ginkgo trees, and in the autumn breeze, the golden leaves swirled and danced.
At the end of the road, a grove of red maple trees appeared, and through the gaps in the trunks, a green lawn came into view, where children from the military residential area played and frolicked.
The vehicle turned left and slowly drove about two hundred meters. Chen Chuan saw Chen Xiaojin practicing martial arts in a corner of the lawn, with several sturdy mannequins and training equipment set up in front of him.
"Let's stop here," he said.
The car came to a halt, and the attendant jumped out to open the door for him. Chen Chuan stepped out, instructed the others to wait, and walked towards the lawn.
Chen Xiaojin was practicing with great focus and enthusiasm, repeating each move over and over until he was drenched in sweat. Just as he was about to take a break to replenish his fluids, he noticed Chen Chuan standing by, which startled him. But soon, he became cheerful and ran up to Chen Chuan. After a moment's hesitation, he called out, "Teacher Chen?"
Chen Chuan did not deny the title. "The situation in Central City is complex lately," he said. "Teacher Lu mentioned that someone might be tailing you. For now, it's best to avoid going to the Martial Arts Gym and practice at home instead."
Chen Xiaojin lowered his head, then after a while, he looked up and asked, "Is it related to him?"
"It's hard to say at the moment," Chen Chuan replied. "I'll investigate and clarify this as soon as possible." He reached into his pocket, took out something wrapped in a sealed package, and handed it to Chen Xiaojin. "Eat this."
Chen Xiaojin took it and saw that it appeared to be a fruit. He unwrapped it, poured himself a glass of water, and consumed it. After wiping his mouth, he asked, "Teacher Chen, what is this?"
"An Enlightenment Seed," Chen Chuan explained. "There's a fifty-fifty chance it will enhance your potential, but it might also do nothing."
This wasn't something that would show immediate effects; it needed time to gradually manifest its benefits.
Chen Chuan had tried it himself without noticing any significant changes, but after further testing, he confirmed there were no side effects, so he decided to have others try it.
He gave one to Chen Xiaojin and planned to provide one to his old friends and classmates as well. Whether it would unlock their potential was up to them.
Upon hearing this, Chen Xiaojin couldn't wait to give it a try.
Chen Chuan smiled and said, "It will take some time. You won't feel anything right away. I watched you practice earlier, and there were a few details that needed adjustment. Let me show you."
He gestured for Chen Xiaojin to come closer, then held his shoulder and pointed out a few spots, correcting some flaws in his force application.
Teacher Lu's instruction was excellent, paying attention to many fine details. However, it was not the same as being able to observe the movement of the Adaptation Organ, which might result in some uncoordinated movements.
In reality, this was usually unavoidable and often accompanied every fighter throughout their life. It might require the fighter to gradually sense and correct these issues through practice and training.
By making these corrections early, Chen Chuan could help Chen Xiaojin avoid many detours.
After listening to Chen Chuan's advice, Chen Xiaojin practiced again and found that indeed, some movements became smoother, and the force he generated was more substantial. More importantly, practicing this way was not tiring at all. The more he fought, the more he felt in sync with the Adaptation Organ, as if it knew that this was beneficial for itself.
After observing Chen Xiaojin's practice for a while, Chen Chuan said, "With this type of training, you shouldn't exceed fifty repetitions daily. If you start panting, stop and wait until you feel comfortable before gradually increasing the number of repetitions. Remember to have a therapist adjust your body afterward."
Chen Chuan spent the afternoon instructing Chen Xiaojin and even had dinner with him. Chen Xiaojin seemed delighted and was reluctant to part ways when seeing Chen Chuan off.
After leaving, Chen Chuan immediately contacted Wu Bei. "Brother Wu, how's it going?"
"I've checked," Wu Bei replied. "Indeed, there were Resonators and armed personnel tailing and monitoring Chen Xiaojin. However, they retreated when the Handling Bureau's convoy arrived. I tried to track them, but they were too skilled, and their Resonance Nests were better than ours. I suspect they might be from the company."
"The company..." Chen Chuan mused. "Brother Wu, keep an eye on this area. If anyone visits or contacts Xiaojin, let me know."
"Will do."
Chen Chuan didn't plan to assign additional personnel since the security level in the military residential area was already high. As long as Chen Xiaojin stayed inside, there shouldn't be any issues.
After returning to the Wu Yi Institute via a special vehicle, he continued his daily training outside, gradually enhancing his spiritual power. Upon his return, he sparred with Hong Fu and patiently awaited news from Huang Wei Yi.
Several days later, he arrived early at the Handling Bureau for a meeting with the managers, as expected, to discuss their response to the Union delegation and the incoming diplomatic team from the Linaxus Federation, which was due in two days.
Director Wu spoke, "The Union is demanding compensation from us for disrupting their business collaboration with the Ferris Wheel Corporation. They've dispatched a legal team to sue the Government Hall and the Handling Bureau. But this is just a pretext for their prolonged stay here.
We can almost certainly assume that the Union's objective is the relic in the Fusion Zone.
In the past, wherever a breach appeared in the World Ring, a relic was born. Now, rumors are spreading that a third-tier relic might have emerged.
Whenever such relics appear, they have the potential to alter the regional landscape. Therefore, the Fusion Zone's military has already deployed and is searching the area.
The Old Imperial Palace has likely received the news and dispatched a cavalry unit. We've clashed and exchanged fire with them several times, and we're currently in a standoff. They've sent a small team to search the nearby area.
The Defense Department has mobilized capable personnel from the rear to reinforce us. The Handling Bureau has also reassigned staff to provide support. However, the armed personnel brought by the Union will undoubtedly intervene.
It's certain that the Union delegation includes a relatively elite group of armed personnel. While they can't enter directly, they will use the various companies' armed forces to access the Fusion Zone.
We'll hold them up procedurally for a while, but not for long. According to the agreements established during the Great Alliance era, nations and companies have the obligation to jointly fill the breaches in the World Ring and the right to share and develop relics. They will undoubtedly use this agreement to justify their actions.
Manager Wen made a sound, "So, when it comes to filling the breach, they have no obligation, but when it's time to share the relic, they have the right. What a convenient plan."
Director Wu continued, "Therefore, we must not let this relic fall into the Union's hands. When the Linaxus Federation's diplomatic team arrives in Jinbei Province, we'll face even more opponents, and the situation will become more severe."
He turned to Manager Han, "Manager Han, you've been in contact with the Union. After so many days of interaction, can you confirm the identities of the armed personnel they've brought in?"
Manager Han replied, "It's still unclear. I'm still gathering information. The Union is tightly controlling personnel information, and there's a lot of false news they've spread. I need some time to verify and confirm."
Director Wu observed him for a moment, then spoke in a deep voice, "I need to know the details as soon as possible. I hope you can speed up your actions." He paused, then added, "I understand this isn't easy. If you encounter any difficulties you can't resolve, feel free to bring them up early. The Bureau will try to cooperate as much as possible."
Manager Wen also looked over and smiled, "Manager Han, do you need any help? Let us know if you do."
Manager Han replied calmly, "No, thank you." He looked up, "I hope the Bureau can grant me some additional authority."
After a moment of consideration, Director Wu replied, "I'll discuss this matter with the other directors after the meeting." He turned to Manager Wen, "Manager Wen, your task is also crucial."
Manager Wen's smile faded, and he nodded solemnly.
After Director Wu finished speaking, he turned to Chen Chuan and said, "The situation at Union Heavy Control is also tense. Manager Chen, this company has a powerful armed force. They will undoubtedly get involved. We must find a way to restrict them."
Chen Chuan replied seriously, "I understand, Director Wu."
After a few more words of caution, Director Wu concluded the meeting.
As Chen Chuan left the conference room, he heard someone call out, "Manager Chen." It was Manager Han calling him.
Chen Chuan stopped and turned around, facing Manager Han. "Manager Han, do you have any instructions for me?"
Manager Han approached and said, "Manager Chen, you've been monitoring Union Heavy Control, but I've learned that they've only sent security personnel to Central City for routine security. There's no need for comprehensive monitoring. The resources of An Dun are not meant for such use."
Chen Chuan looked at him and said, "I'm sorry, Manager Han. You have your tasks, and I have mine. How I carry out my duties is not something I need to report to you."
Manager Han frowned, "When carrying out tasks, we must consider the bigger picture. The most critical issue right now is the Union. We need to focus our resources on them. A company like Union Heavy Control can be put on hold for a while without consequences."
Chen Chuan replied calmly, "Manager Han, you're overthinking it. The 'bigger picture' is something Director Wu and the others need to consider."
