Chapter 666: Reunited with Shi Xinyu
Chapter 666: Reunited with Shi Xinyu
Once they arrived at the hotel and settled everyone in, Tao Yong returned to oversee the remaining wedding preparations. Yu Meiton stayed behind to rest and planned to join them later.
Lu Jiaxin commented, "That's the right decision. Let him deal with the mess his family created. It's fine for a man to endure some hardship, as long as he doesn't drag you into it."
Zong Simeng hesitated before adding, "Jiaxin, once they're married, they are a united couple. There's no need to draw such clear boundaries."
Lu Jiaxin disagreed, "A united couple? In the event of a divorce, would Tao Yong be able to give half of his wealth to Meiton? No. So, why should she bother cleaning up the mess created by the Tao family?"
The laws of Hong Kong City favored the wealthy. When marrying into a rich family, if the other party had a conscience, they might offer you alimony in a divorce. But if they didn't, they could kick you out without a second thought.
Zong Simeng argued, "Drawing such clear boundaries could hurt the couple's relationship."
Lu Jiaxin smiled, "Simeng, we're talking about the Tao family's mess here, not about how a couple should interact."
"I think in Meiton's situation, it's best to stay clear of her in-laws' troubles. If things go well, they'll take credit for it, but if they don't, she'll be the one to shoulder the blame."
Upon hearing this, Yu Meiton immediately interjected, "I'll take over the wedding arrangements. It was a tangled mess at first, but I spent three days straightening it out. My future father-in-law even praised me for my capability and suggested that I handle the Chinese New Year celebrations. But I refused because why would I bother with something so exhausting and thankless?"
Zong Simeng fell silent for a moment before speaking, "Then it's up to you to find a balance and not let Tao Yong feel that you're not on the same page. If a couple grows apart, their lives together will become a torment."
Lu Jiaxin wanted to say that if a couple drifted apart, they could always divorce—it wasn't that big of a deal. However, she kept these thoughts to herself. Zong Simeng, influenced by the old-fashioned elders in her family, and with the Hua family's power and influence, still had to rely on Hu Zhifeng and his family. As for Yu Meiton, with her good job and several properties under her name, she could live a comfortable life without Tao Yong and didn't need to endure anything in silence.
Yu Meiton smiled, "Simeng, don't worry. I know what I'm doing."
She wasn't the type to meekly accept her fate; otherwise, she wouldn't have insisted on calling off the wedding when she was driven out of her house. Firstly, Tao Yong had treated her well, and she didn't want to make things difficult for him. Secondly, she wanted the wedding to proceed smoothly without any mishaps. Now, with Jiaxin's support, she didn't have to endure Tao Yong's father and that woman's attitude anymore.
Yu Meiton stayed at the hotel for another hour before returning to find Tao Yong. She pulled him into their room and brought up the matter, "I don't want to serve her tea. What do you think?"
Tao Yong, of course, supported her, "If she wants to come out and drink our tea, then do as Sis-in-law says. Serve tea to Mommy in front of her."
"Okay."
Tao Yong said with a hint of guilt, "Meiton, I'm sorry for putting you through all this."
Yu Meiton didn't say that she wasn't tired. Instead, she replied, "This is a once-in-a-lifetime event for us. It's worth the effort, and I just hope that everything goes well tomorrow and that woman doesn't cause any more trouble. If we mess up, it will embarrass the entire Tao family, and she doesn't have the guts to do that."
Yu Meiton felt relieved.
The next day, Yu Meiton woke up early to start her hair and makeup. Lu Jiaxin entered the room and saw the makeup artist drawing her eyebrows. She asked, "Have you had breakfast?"
Seeing her shake her head, Lu Jiaxin said, "A person may be made of iron, but even iron needs to be reforged. Come, I brought you breakfast. Eat first, then continue with your makeup."
As it was the wedding day, it was not suitable to eat soupy or liquid foods, so Lu Jiaxin had bought steamed buns, mantou, and pastries. These foods wouldn't have them rushing to the bathroom all the time.
After finishing her breakfast, Yu Meiton continued with her makeup while Lu Jiaxin, having nothing else to do, sat beside her and browsed through a financial magazine. Someone tried to approach them, but Qian Xiaoxiao intercepted the person.
Yu Meiton, seeing this from the mirror, felt relieved. Although Fu Ye wasn't a good man, it was because of him that she had become good friends with Lu Jiaxin and Zong Simeng.
Once the makeup was done, Lu Jiaxin immediately called for Qian Xiaoxiao and asked her to take photos of her and Yu Meiton. These beautiful moments had to be captured.
After returning to Si Jiu City, Qian Xiaoxiao had become even more diligent in her studies. Not only had her driving skills improved, but she also learned photography because she knew Lu Jiaxin liked taking pictures. According to Lu Jiaxin, she was now on her way to becoming a versatile talent.
Yan Yijun entered and said to Lu Jiaxin, "Boss, there's someone outside by the name of Shi Xinyu who claims to be your friend. She wants to meet Miss Yu."
Ever since Shi Xinyu failed to get back together with Tao Yong and returned to Star City, they hadn't seen each other. She glanced at Yu Meiton, who was the true master of the house, to make the decision on whether to see her or not.
Yu Meiton's expression remained calm as she said, "Let her in."
She hadn't tried to come between them. Tao Yong and Shi Xinyu had broken up for over two years before he pursued her. So, she didn't feel guilty when Shi Xinyu showed up at her door.
Shi Xinyu entered the room and paused when she saw the two of them, then smiled and handed over the gift she had brought, "Meiton, you look so beautiful today."
Yu Meiton accepted the gift and thanked her, then invited her to sit down, and the three of them chatted. As for Zong Simeng, she had woken up with a sore waist that morning and had gone to a beauty salon for a full-body spa.
Holding Shi Xinyu's hand, Yu Meiton asked concernedly, "Xinyu, how have you been lately?"
Shi Xinyu smiled, "I'm doing well. I opened a coffee shop, and business has been good. It's enough to support me and my child's daily expenses."
Lu Jiaxin asked curiously, "Aren't you and your child living with your parents?"
Her parents doted on her like a treasure, so how could they bear to let her and her child live elsewhere?
Shi Xinyu shook her head, "No. At the beginning of the year, we divided the family assets. Now, my parents live with my eldest brother and sister-in-law, and my second and third brothers have also moved out."
With both of her brothers having moved out, she didn't feel right about continuing to live with her parents. She had felt sad when she first moved out, but after adjusting, she felt it was for the best.
Shi Xinyu continued, "Jiaxin, thank you. During Meiton's engagement banquet last year, I wanted to tell you, but my child fell ill, so I couldn't make it."
Lu Jiaxin was puzzled, "I didn't do anything. Why are you thanking me?"
Shi Xinyu smiled, "You once told me that keeping money in the bank would result in a loss due to depreciation, and that I shouldn't rely on others for everything, not even my parents, because they will grow old one day. Thanks to your reminder, whenever I had extra money, I bought properties and shops, and now my assets are quite substantial."
The income from the coffee shop ensured a comfortable life for her and her daughter. She saved up the rent she received from her properties and shops, just as Jiaxin had advised. Having money in hand gave her peace of mind. Now that she had financial security, she didn't have to worry about making a living, and her days were carefree and relaxed.
Lu Jiaxin didn't know what had happened in Shi Xinyu's family, but she was glad to hear that she was doing well, "It's also because you took my words to heart. If you hadn't, no amount of advice from me would have made a difference."
