Chapter 660: The First Guild Master, Mavis
Chapter 660: The First Guild Master, Mavis
Three hundred years of research was not entirely in vain.
Through his profound study of magic, Feng Ye now possessed the power systems from four different worlds—Naruto, One Piece, One-Punch Man, and Bleach—and had added to them the magic power system of the Fairy Tail world.
The increase in power systems meant that Feng Ye could distribute his energy across these new systems, signifying a strengthening of his control over his immense power.
Whoosh!!
Feng Ye closed his eyes slightly, and with a mere thought, his massive body abruptly shrank, instantly reverting to a size not much different from that of an ordinary human.
This time, it wasn't a projection; his actual body had shrunk. He had broken through that limitation, and now, even with the power of twenty-eight stars coursing through him, he could instantly reduce his body to the size of dust, becoming one with the vast world.
"Hmm, not bad."
Feng Ye clenched his fists, sensing the changes within himself.
He had finally adapted to the power of the twenty-eight stars, and he even had some residual energy left. He could probably devour another star or two.
With that thought, Feng Ye casually took out the snuff bottle he used to store stars, brought it to his nose, and gently inhaled, drawing the energy of half a star into his body.
As the energy of half a star flowed into him, his body radiated a scorching glow, but it only lasted for a brief few seconds before calming down.
Feng Ye opened his eyes once more.
After putting away the snuff bottle, Feng Ye landed on the surface of the sea and walked forward along the vast expanse of water.
As he walked, he pondered, "If I recall correctly, the first guild master of Fairy Tail should have been born by now."
The First Magic was an unreasonable type of magic.
Judging by appearances alone, one could only describe it as—all power comes from a roar!
But not just anyone could achieve results with a roar. Only the 'main characters' of the Fairy Tail guild seemed capable of such feats.
No matter the disparity in strength or the dire circumstances, a single, powerful roar declaring "This is the power of Fairy Tail!" was all it took to turn the tide in their favor!
It seemed very illogical.
But this was the power of the heart, born from the depths of one's soul. It completely disregarded the rules of the physical realm and defied the law of conservation of energy.
Feng Ye himself possessed a similar power, like the power of evolution from the One-Punch Man world, which tended towards the spiritual. However, due to the sheer strength of this power, it was actually his weakness.
In simple terms,
The stronger one became, the more they relied on the tangible power they held, moving away from the intangible realm of the heart to seek strength.
Feng Ye was unskilled in this aspect of power, so to seek this heart-based strength, he naturally had to turn to the Fairy Tail guild.
Whoosh! Whoosh!!
Feng Ye strolled across the sea, each step spanning thousands of kilometers. After a few strides, an island came into view at the end of his line of sight.
It was a peculiar island, appearing as if a towering mushroom had sprouted from an ordinary island, its cap-like shape overshadowing the land below.
"This is the place."
"Tenrou Island."
Feng Ye murmured as he gazed at the island ahead, then slowed his pace slightly.
He took a few steps to the shore, stepped onto the land, and made his way into the heart of Tenrou Island.
...
On Tenrou Island.
There was a town.
Deep within this town, at its very center, stood a relatively tall building adorned with a huge lizard emblem on its exterior.
This was a mages' guild—the Red Lizard.
The world of Fairy Tail was divided into three continents, and on the continent of Ishgar, the magic world was governed by the 'Magic Council' and numerous large and small mages' guilds.
Mages joined guilds, uniting to take on challenging tasks, and it was rare to find a mage who didn't belong to a guild.
In this era,
The competition among mages' guilds was fierce.
Three hundred years ago, humans relied on Dragon Slayer Magic to nearly eradicate dragons, and Acnologia, who became the Dragon King despite his human body, was once driven back by Ishgar's legendary mages, cementing humanity's dominance over the world.
Since then, three centuries of development had led to a flourishing magic civilization, with an increasing number of mages, guilds, and, consequently, a decrease in available quests.
To maintain their power and status, mages' guilds engaged in frequent conflicts during this period, with friction between them occurring almost daily.
Of course,
There was one mages' guild that remained completely unaffected by all this—the Phoenix Heart guild, located at the very center of Ishgar, consisting of just one person.
She had survived for three hundred years, bearing titles such as Ishgar's Strongest Mage, the First Saint of the Ten Wizard Saints, and the Phoenix Priestess. She was a legendary existence, and no guild on the continent dared to provoke her.
Inside the Red Lizard guild.
Numerous mages sat in groups of twos and threes, chatting leisurely about their various quest experiences and discussing each other's magic.
Beyond these tables was a bar counter, with shelves behind it stocked with various drinks, and on the long table in front of the counter sat a girl of seven or eight years old. She had short, light golden hair with a tuft of hair sticking up at the top, and she was intently reading a book about insects, her hands cradling the book as she sat amidst the dust and grime, wearing a patched-up, dirty outfit, with a broomstick by her side.
Just then, a large hand suddenly lashed out from the side, viciously swatting the book out of Mavis' hand. It fell to the ground with a thud.
"Mavis! How long do you plan on slacking off?!"
The owner of the large hand, Jose Porla, the guild master of Red Lizard, glared at Mavis with ill intent as he berated her.
Mavis meekly placed her small hands on her knees and lowered her head, not daring to meet Jose's gaze. "S-sorry... but I've already cleaned the guild."
Jose reached out, grabbing Mavis by her clothes and lifting her up as if she were a tiny kitten. He glared at her and said, "Didn't I tell you to clean the outside too? Are you ignoring me?!"
"Y-yes..."
Mavis responded weakly.
Jose lifted his leg and viciously stomped on the book that had fallen from Mavis' hand. His magic surged, causing the thick book to shatter into pieces.
"A useless brat like you shouldn't be reading books! Get back to work!"
The loud noise drew the attention of the other mages nearby, but not a single one of them showed any sympathy towards Mavis. Instead, they wore mocking smiles.
"Do you think you can learn magic too?"
"Hahaha, keep dreaming. You don't have the talent for it. Now get back to sweeping!"
"Take a proper bath too! You're making the air in the guild dirty!"
Due to the intense competition among mage guilds in this era, kind-hearted mages rarely survived unless they possessed overwhelming strength. This cruel magical world shaped the temperament of mages, making most of them ill-tempered and vicious.
Mavis: "..."
The girl lowered her head, looking at the book that Jose had crushed into pieces. She then silently picked up the broom beside her and walked out of the guild.
Jose watched her leave and noticed the pair of brown leather boots she was wearing. "Hey, Mavis, who bought you those boots?"
Mavis stopped in her tracks and timidly replied, "You did, Master Jose..."
Jose lifted his chin and said, "Oh? It seems those boots don't suit you. Give them back!"
Mavis trembled slightly and said, "But these are my only pair of shoes..."
Jose glared at her with widened eyes, his voice rising in anger. "Didn't you hear what I said?! You useless brat!"
Mavis: "..."
A moment later.
The girl walked out of the guild barefoot, her tender, pale feet stepping onto the cold ground. She carried the broom and began sweeping the fallen leaves and dust, letting out a helpless sigh.
With her head lowered, she swept the leaves while walking along the perimeter of the guild. Before she knew it, she had made her way to the back of the building.
Suddenly.
As she was sweeping, a beautiful butterfly flew by and circled in front of her, catching her attention.
Mavis' large eyes sparkled as she watched the butterfly. It flew around her once before landing on the tuft of light golden hair that stuck up from the top of her head.
Mavis' eyes widened as she looked up at the butterfly perched on her hair. She stood still, holding the broom and not daring to move, afraid that she might startle the butterfly.
"So beautiful..."
Her big eyes shone with a hint of wonder.
The butterfly paused for a moment before flapping its wings again and flying away from her head.
And at that moment, Mavis froze, her gaze fixed on the forest ahead. In the midst of several trees, on a patch of lush green grass, stood a young man with silver hair. A squirrel was perched on his left shoulder, and a fawn approached him from the right.
The young man held a lump of brown soil in his hand, kneading it gently in his palm until it took the shape of a bird. He then threw the bird-shaped soil into the air.
Silence.
The bird made of soil spread its wings, emitting a soft glow. The brown color faded away, revealing feathers of a pale yellow hue. It circled above Feng Ye's head.
"Magic..."
Mavis watched, her eyes sparkling with surprise after the initial shock. She had never seen this type of magic before!
The bird flew around Feng Ye a few times before heading towards Mavis. It gently landed on the end of her broomstick and proceeded to preen its feathers.
Mavis stood there, dumbfounded, then carefully extended her finger to stroke the bird's feathers. It felt just like the real feathers of a bird.
Just then.
Feng Ye's voice reached her.
"What are you doing?"
"Ah..."
Startled, Mavis flinched, causing the bird to be startled as well. It flapped its wings and flew away into the distant sky.
She looked towards the forest at Feng Ye and apologized timidly, "S-sorry... I didn't mean to disturb your bird..."
Feng Ye smiled amiably and replied, "It's fine."
Seeing Feng Ye's relaxed demeanor and gentle gaze, so different from the fierce mages she had encountered before, Mavis' anxious heart gradually calmed down.
She hesitated for a moment before asking softly, "Was that... creation magic? I don't think I've heard of anyone using that kind of magic before..."
"It's life magic," Feng Ye smiled gently and explained, "Just because you haven't heard of it doesn't mean no one uses it. After all, it's not a very difficult type of magic."
