Chapter 660: Make-up Exam
Chapter 660: Make-up Exam
"You actually had time to go on a date during exams?"
Fred, George, and Lee Jordan, who had just finished their exams and were now sunbathing outside the castle with the crowd, felt a pang of jealousy as they saw Albert waving at them after parting ways with Isabelle.
Who are these people?
They had studied tirelessly for two weeks, hoping for good grades, but this guy had effortlessly aced the exams, placing first in their year. To think that he even had time to sneak off for a date in the middle of it all—it was infuriating.
"Don't be angry, I'll treat you to some Coke. On a hot day like this, a bottle of Coke will cool you down." Albert casually waved his wand, conjuring three bottles of ice-cold Coke out of thin air for the trio.
They knew this was a Muggle drink, but they didn't refuse Albert's kindness and guzzled down the entire bottle with a glug-glug-glug.
"Ah, refreshing!"
This drink called Coke had a peculiar taste, but it was quite invigorating.
"Are you guys free to come over to my place during the summer holidays?"
Fred and George transfigured their empty Coke bottles into stones and casually tossed them onto the lawn.
"I'm afraid not," Albert said, looking at the Weasley twins meaningfully. "I need to go to France to visit a friend. Plus, you two might be a little busy to entertain me anyway."
"Oh? From the way you're talking, it sounds like something's going to happen."
Fred and George exchanged a glance, then turned their eyes to Albert, unable to contain their curiosity. "Have you had another prophecy or something?"
"It's an unexpected surprise, and I won't spoil it. Otherwise, it won't be a surprise anymore."
"Don't keep us in suspense! Tell us!"
Fred and George pounced on Albert, trying to tickle him into revealing the surprise, only to be effortlessly flipped onto the ground.
"How quickly you forget," Albert said, looking at the disheveled twins on the ground.
Lee Jordan, watching from the side, wore a schadenfreude smile. He hadn't forgotten how those Slytherins who had tried to cause trouble for Albert had been dealt with. Now, no one dared to mess with Albert anymore.
"Ouch, could you be a little gentler next time?"
"I'll keep that in mind."
"Hopefully, there won't be a next time," George muttered, rolling his eyes.
"Oh, and congratulations on becoming a prefect." Lee Jordan smiled.
"Well, that's a given, isn't it?" Fred and George were not surprised in the least. They were now itching to know what this so-called surprise was that Albert kept teasing them with.
But Albert refused to spill the beans, leaving them hanging, which was just plain mean.
As they chatted, Lee Jordan suddenly pointed and said, "Look over there. It seems like Harry's in some trouble."
The three of them followed his gaze and saw blond-haired Malfoy blocking Harry and his friends, accompanied by his two sidekicks.
"I think it's about the house-elf," Albert speculated. "The Malfoy family has obviously 'dismissed' their house-elf."
"That's fantastic news."
Fred and George stood up and started walking towards Harry.
"What's going on here?" Fred asked.
The twins gave Malfoy and his cronies a menacing stare.
"This is between Potter and me; it has nothing to do with you," Malfoy said, his eyes filled with malice as he glanced at Fred and George. He then looked at Albert and Lee Jordan, who were approaching, and seemed to want to back down.
"Solving problems with fistfights is not a good habit," George said in a sympathetic tone. "Maybe we can sit down and talk about it."
"I don't think there's anything to discuss between us," Malfoy said, taking a step back as he eyed the twins warily.
"What are you lot doing?"
A cold voice cut through the air, and Snape strode towards them. He glared at the group, who had almost encircled Potter and his friends, and said, "Five points from Gryffindor. If you have nothing better to do, stop loitering around and get going. Look at your exam results; they're simply appalling."
Snape then turned to Ron, a sneer on his face. "And I believe someone here needs to take a make-up exam. It's been a while since we've had anyone repeat a year at Hogwarts."
"I can't believe someone could actually fail their exams," Malfoy said, looking at Ron with malicious glee.
"Alright, break it up, all of you."
"Those two are so annoying," Harry muttered. "I really don't understand why Dumbledore would agree to let Snape be the headmaster.
Ron glared at Malfoy's retreating back, gritting his teeth. "One day, I'm going to teach him a lesson he won't forget."
"You'll have your chance, I'm sure they'll be looking for trouble on the train ride back," Albert smiled, offering a reassuring reminder.
"Fighting is not the answer," Hermione frowned, clearly disapproving of violence.
"I agree," Albert nodded, echoing Hermione's sentiment, "Violence doesn't solve problems."
"But it can solve the people causing them," Fred and George grinned, their eyes glinting with malicious intent as they recalled the incident where their sister had almost been killed by the elder Malfoy.
"We don't condone violence, the impact of school bullying is terrible," Albert cautioned, "So, we only advocate self-defense. The fact that the school teaches dark magic defense instead of dark magic itself already proves this point."
"We haven't forgotten," the twins replied.
Of course, if someone came looking for trouble, they couldn't be blamed for defending themselves. After all, one couldn't just sit there and take a beating! "By the way, I mentioned to Professor McGonagall that I plan to take all the courses offered," Hermione winked at Albert, "and she approved."
"What are you two on about?" Ron looked at them, completely lost.
"This is a secret only known to students who take on all courses," Albert held up a finger and shushed Ron, "So don't ask, it'll only bring you unnecessary trouble."
"What secret?" Ron asked, intrigued.
"Anyway, what are you planning to do now?" Hermione changed the subject.
"What do you mean?"
"Well, about the make-up exam, of course?" Hermione frowned.
She had noticed that Snape was referring to Ron earlier.
Due to his wand being broken before the start of the term, Ron hadn't been able to properly practice spells, and his performance in the practical exams had suffered as a result.
Taking into account his broken wand, Professors McGonagall and Flitwick had decided to give Ron a make-up exam in three days' time.
"I'm probably doomed!" Ron's face fell as he thought about his predicament.
"Don't worry, at least you know what the exam will cover. With some practice starting now, you'll be fine," Hermione reassured him softly, "Harry and I will help you. As long as you put in the effort, passing the make-up exam won't be difficult."
Albert and the others looked at Ron sympathetically, knowing that he was in for an intense three days of training if he wanted to pass the make-up exam.
Thanks to Malfoy's gossip, everyone soon knew that Ron Weasley had failed his practical exams in Transfiguration and Charms, and would have to stay back for a make-up exam.
When Percy heard about this, he was so angry that he almost started shouting at Ron. "You think I want this? If you had used my wand, you would be in the same situation!"
"You deserve it! Who told you to break your wand?" Percy knew the reason behind Ron's broken wand and showed no sympathy.
Ron ended up arguing with Percy, even going so far as to throw his wand on the ground.
Percy refused to let Ron repeat a year, as it would bring shame to the Weasley family.
He sought out Albert for help.
"You should talk to Hermione; she's Ron's friend and will definitely do her best to help him," Albert politely declined, offering a suggestion instead.
As if he had time for that! He was busy and didn't have the time to tutor Ron.
In the end, Ron endured three days of intense training with Harry and Hermione, and he managed to pass the make-up exam using Harry's wand.
"What did Professor McGonagall say?" Hermione asked anxiously.
"She told me to buy a new wand," Ron said dejectedly, lowering his head as he returned Harry's wand, "Otherwise, I'll have to repeat a year if I don't improve next term."
"Why don't I lend you some galleons? You can pay me back when you have the money," Harry suggested, not daring to offer to buy Ron a wand outright.
In truth, Harry had considered doing so for Ron's birthday, but he hadn't acted on it.
"No need for now. If my family refuses to buy me one, I'll borrow money from you or Fred and George. If all else fails, I'll buy a second-hand wand to get by," Ron said, though he had already made up his mind to borrow money from his older brothers if his family didn't come through.
Sometimes, Ron really hated being poor.
