Chapter 66: The Third Seal, The Five Thunder Talismans
Chapter 66: The Third Seal, The Five Thunder Talismans
The prediction of drawing a lower-middle lot indicated that the Tianxu Sect was being targeted by their opponents.
It was unlikely that they would use a spatial tear to deploy their forces, as if they had the strength to directly assault the Tianxu Sect's defensive formation.
Excluding those possibilities, Lei Jun's first thought was that there was a traitor within the Tianxu Sect who had defected to the Huangtiandao.
During his time cultivating at the Tianxu Sect, he had gotten along well with everyone, and the sect leader, Tu Guangyu, was acquainted with Yuan Mobai. So, after some thought, Lei Jun decided to meet with Tu Guangyu privately.
If there was anyone in the Tianxu Sect who would defect to the Huangtiandao, it would undoubtedly be Tu Guangyu, with the lowest possibility of nearly none.
Otherwise, they wouldn't need to hold out for so long, and everyone could just return to their rooms and go to sleep.
There was no need to beat a dead horse.
Lei Jun only needed to hint at it, and Tu Guangyu immediately understood, his expression turning solemn. "Junior Lei..."
"I have no particular findings, but I am apprehensive about past events. I hope Senior Tu will forgive me," Lei Jun said.
"I trust that none of our fellow sect members would commit such a wrong," Tu Guangyu said slowly.
"It was reckless of me, Senior Tu, please forgive me," Lei Jun said.
With his reminder, the rest was up to Tu Guangyu.
After bidding Tu Guangyu farewell, Lei Jun descended from the main peak of Tianxu Mountain with some Tianxu Sect disciples and headed towards Qiantian Peak, which was directly south of the main peak.
As the ritual commenced, a three-story altar appeared at the summit of Qiantian Peak.
Following the ritual procedures, Lei Jun and the others entered the altar in batches, raising the Daoist banners, lighting the incense burners, hanging the mirrors, and offering portraits of the ancestral masters.
After completing the preparations, the disciples took their seats on the three-story altar and began reciting the scriptures.
At the Qiantian Peak altar, Lei Jun, who had attained the Triple Heaven realm, led the group and thus sat on the highest third-story round altar to chant the scriptures.
The Tianxu Sect disciples, who had attained the Double Heaven Foundation Establishment cultivation base, sat on the second-story octagonal altar.
Unlike at Longhushan's headquarters, where cultivators of all levels attended the same lectures at the Taoist academy, some of the formal disciples of the Tianxu Sect were still at the Refining Qi stage and had not yet crossed the Tribulation to establish their foundation. They sat on the lowest square altar.
On the altar of Qiantian Peak, a radiant light gradually shone, condensing into a huge talisman at the top of the altar.
From a distance, the altars on the other seven peaks appeared similar.
Eight massive talismans flashed with brilliance, soaring into the sky and converging in mid-air directly above the summit of Tianxu Mountain's main peak.
Eight talismans lit up simultaneously above the main peak of Tianxu Mountain, forming a small talisman array to attract the light from above.
Under the radiant light, more and more spiritual talismans appeared, circling above the main peak, spreading outward with the small talisman array at the center.
Finally, they transformed into a massive formation composed of countless spiritual talismans, enveloping Tianxu Mountain and the surrounding mountains.
With the formation complete, all the Tianxu Sect disciples breathed a sigh of relief.
At the Qiantian Peak altar, Lei Jun and the others no longer needed to keep watch together at all times; they could take turns on duty.
Lei Jun calmed his mind and patiently awaited the night.
His attention turned elsewhere for the time being.
After Lei Jun attained the Triple Heaven altar realm, the talisman seals of his innate spirit strike and wind-riding techniques were also engraved on his altar.
Now, he began engraving the third one.
Structurally, it was more complex than the spirit strike and wind-riding talismans.
The talisman seal resembled thunderclouds, ethereal and ever-changing.
Yet, it also contained a sharp and mighty force that was hidden and restrained.
This was the third innate talisman technique that Lei Jun had chosen for himself.
It was the result of his constant improvements to the Tianxu Sect's Thunderblast Talisman after his enlightenment had reached the level of clarity.
Initially, he started with the Blazing Flame Talisman, experimenting continuously until he eventually let go of all restraints:
Blazing Flame Talisman with Blazing Flame Talisman.
Blazing Flame Talisman with other spiritual talismans.
Other spiritual talismans with other spiritual talismans.
After going through this cycle, Lei Jun leaned more towards using the Thunderblast Talisman as a blueprint.
And so, it might not be appropriate to continue calling it the Thunderblast Talisman.
After all, this spiritual talisman had undergone significant changes:
The combination of the Thunderblast Talisman and the Metal Lock Talisman resulted in the creation of the Metal Lock Thunder Talisman.
The fusion of the Thunderblast Talisman with the Upper Clarity Golden Bamboo spiritual power gave birth to the Wood Hollow Thunder Talisman.
When merged with the Dark River Force, the Thunderblast Talisman became the Water Dark Thunder Talisman.
Uniting with the Blazing Flame Talisman, it transformed into the Fire Arsenal Thunder Talisman.
And finally, by combining with the spirit power of the Xi Soil Banner, it became the Earth Seal Thunder Talisman.
Further combinations and permutations of these five variations led to the cycle of the five elements.
In the end, Lei Jun named this set of talismans the Five Thunder Talismans.
Since he was now a disciple of the Heavenly Master's Mansion, and his surname was still Lei, having a sense of ceremony wasn't a bad thing... Lei Jun thought to himself, feeling a bit self-deprecating.
With this, Lei Jun had finalized the three innate talisman techniques he would bring with him when he descended to the Three Heavens.
After accomplishing all this, Lei Jun stood up and stepped out of the altar, taking a breath of fresh air.
Outside, night had fallen.
Under the night sky, the Eight Extremes Mountain Guard Array of the Tianxu Sect emitted a faint glow, bringing a sense of tranquility and harmony to the evening.
Unfortunately, this peace was soon shattered.
Like a signal flare, a streak of fire blazed across the night sky and landed on the glowing array.
"Whoosh!"
Instantly, flames erupted, spreading across the array, creating ripples of light.
Before the fiery flow could dissipate, more streams of light appeared in the night sky, intertwining and then pouring down like a torrential rain onto the array!
Lei Jun and the other Taoist talisman disciples of the Tianxu Sect were all too familiar with this sight.
Countless spiritual talismans flashed with spiritual light, transforming into thunderous flames, relentlessly assaulting Tianxu Mountain.
The Huangtiandao had finally arrived.
Both sides knew each other well.
Without the need for further probing, the assault on the mountain began in earnest.
In addition to the long-range bombardment from the talismans, some members of the Huangtiandao could be seen approaching the outer eight peaks.
However, they were temporarily held back by the glowing array.
Although their techniques originated from the same source, each side had developed their unique methods, and now they employed their most powerful means in a fierce offensive and defensive battle.
Seated at the altar, Lei Jun surveyed the scene, noting that there were quite a few disciples of the Huangtiandao present, some of whom appeared to have cultivation bases at the middle levels of the Three Heavens.
Fortunately, there didn't seem to be any outrageously powerful experts among them.
Indeed, Tianxu Mountain was only a partial battlefield, and the most intense fighting was taking place at Longhushan.
However, the Tianxu Sect members didn't have the luxury of pondering this at the moment; everyone was focused solely on the present crisis.
With the protection of the Mountain Guard Array, they held their ground firmly, and despite the aggressive onslaught of the Huangtiandao, they were unable to breach the array.
Just as many people breathed a sigh of relief...
"Boom!"
The ground shook and the mountains trembled, originating from the direction of Tianxu Mountain's main peak!
Lei Jun turned his head and saw a brilliant beam of light exploding in the sky above the main peak.
After the explosion, being the most critical part of the array, four of the eight talismans located on the main peak were immediately destroyed, leaving only half of them intact.
Seizing the opportunity, the Huangtiandao launched a fierce attack, causing the third and fourth talismans at the core of the array to shatter as well.
Fortunately, the remaining fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth talismans flashed with light, holding their ground.
However, a massive fissure had formed at the very center of the Eight Extremes Mountain Guard Array, spreading outward from the top, signaling a breach in the array.
Numerous Huangtiandao disciples rode the clouds, soaring through the air and bypassing the remnants of the array surrounding the mountains. They entered the array through the fissure from above.
The Tianxu Sect disciples guarding the outer eight altars either remained at their respective altars to defend or returned to reinforce the main peak.
Lei Jun stood on the altar of Qiantian Peak, gazing toward the main peak.
He witnessed the mountains undulating as if an earthquake were shaking the land.
With the array broken, the changes in the earth vein spiritual energy caused the mountains to convulse like writhing dragons, sending violent tremors through the surrounding peaks.
Qiantian Peak shook violently, causing a large number of rocks to tumble down, and the altar on the summit collapsed!
The mountain belly split open, revealing a hidden cave.
But from the depths of the mountain belly, a torrent of fierce gale-force winds rushed out, slicing through the air like steel knives!
Seeing this, Lei Jun checked the time.
Midnight had not yet arrived.
