Chapter 66: Taking Action, Reclaiming the Ginseng
Chapter 66: Taking Action, Reclaiming the Ginseng
The midnight silence shattered with a piercing scream that echoed through the Grand Hall, charged with Zhang Hong’s unbridled fury.
The room darkened with grim expressions.
They hadn’t even glimpsed the Skyborne Phantom’s shadow before their precious ginseng was stolen—a grave humiliation.
“Reporting, Master Zhang,” a Zhang family guard knelt abruptly at the hall’s entrance. “No suspicious individuals were found!”
Zhang Hong said nothing, his chest rising with controlled breaths. His gaze flickered subtly toward a shadowed corner before waving the guard away.
“This was our oversight,” someone finally spoke, shame lacing their voice.
Zhang Hong shook his head. “No blame to you all. The Skyborne Phantom’s cunning is unparalleled.”
A collective sigh rippled through the room.
Yet Zhang Hong’s lips curled faintly. “Heh. That Phantom is nothing but a name without substance.”
Eyes widened in confusion.
“Master Zhang?” someone ventured cautiously.
He chuckled. “Tonight’s success was thanks to Li Mo. Without him, my treasure might’ve truly been stolen.”
As murmurs spread, Zhang Hong revealed Li Mo’s plan.
At Li Mo’s suggestion, the ginseng had been placed in a jeweled box within the Grand Hall—but it was a decoy. The real treasure was hidden elsewhere, bait to lure the Phantom.
Predictably, the Phantom took the bait. Yet his speed had been terrifying; before anyone could react, he vanished with the fake.
Frustration flickered across Zhang Hong’s face. At least the true ginseng was safe.
Li Mo, however, remained grim. What if the Phantom discovered the deception? Would he strike again? Could they stop him twice?
The thought gnawed at him. This was why he’d urged Zhang Hong to bolster their forces—to end this threat permanently.
But fate had other plans.
“Brilliant, Master Zhang! You’ve secured an exceptional protégé!”
Relieved laughter broke the tension. Zhang Hong’s smile deepened—until a cold voice sliced through the air.
“You’re celebrating too soon.”
“Who’s there?!”
Zhang Hong’s heart lurched. A blur shot past him, racing toward the hidden ginseng’s location.
“Stop him!”
The intruder—a Black-Cloaked Men—snatched a vase, vaulted onto the rafters, and tore open a hidden compartment. With a mocking laugh, he held up the ginseng-filled box.
“Old fool, you think you could outwit me? Child’s play.”
“Seize him!” Zhang Hong roared.
Two squads lunged—one blocking exits, the other attacking. But the Black-Cloaked Men moved like smoke, his speed a phantom’s blur.
Li Mo charged, unleashing a thunderous punch.
“Boy, you insist on dying first—fine!”
The clash boomed like thunder. Li Mo staggered backward, blood spilling from his lips as Su Chen caught him.
“Enough games,” the Black-Cloaked Men sneered, carving a path through the guards.
But as he leapt toward the exit, a vice grip seized his ankle.
“Fool!” he snarled, kicking wildly.
Su Chen’s grip held. Twisting midair, he slammed the thief into the wall like a ragdoll. With a fluid leap, he snatched the falling box and landed gracefully.
