Chapter 66: Su Yu's Revenge
Chapter 66: Su Yu's Revenge
Beep! Beep!
The urgent, shrill alarm echoed over the city of Trenera, its piercing sound filling the air.
Blinding red lights flashed on every street, casting an eerie glow on the faces of the terrified citizens.
High-ranking warriors from the city took to the skies, their eyes wide with shock as they gazed upon the slums, where a large section of the ground had been completely excavated. They also looked towards the Trenera Skyscraper in the southern part of the city.
The skyscraper was the city's cornerstone, a powerful defense mechanism.
Two hundred years ago, the city's rulers had used it to subdue a rebellion, but it hadn't been activated since then.
This time, the skyscraper was activated at its fastest speed, but its target wasn't the enemies outside the city walls... Instead't it0 an to the0 of the. slums, of people. The skyscraper's a massive hole in the ground, unable to believe what they were seeing.
In the command center, Intelligence Minister Hilton's mouth hung open, unable to close it for a long time.
After a while, he stared at the League Chairman, Kas, in a daze. "Chairman, are you insane? There are over a million civilians in the slums! How many people are going to die from this?!"
If only a dozen or a few dozen civilians had been injured or killed in the operation to capture 'Number One,' they could have explained it to the public.
But this time, the skyscraper's laser beam had created a massive crater several kilometers wide, and the casualties were likely to be over 100,000!
"100,000 lives! Just like that, they're gone?" Hilton couldn't bear to think about the international condemnation that would follow. This would certainly cause a global uproar.
Chairman Kas, however, shrugged indifferently.
Hilton was his confidant, and Kas whispered to him, "What's a million? Just a bunch of useless people. Keeping them around only wastes resources."
"But—"
"No buts. Don't forget, the slums are the opposition's stronghold. Eliminating these rioters will greatly benefit my next election."
"Otherwise, why would I use such a powerful weapon just for 'Number One'?"
"Uh, I see." Hilton sighed.
For a politician like Kas, nothing was more important than votes.
To secure votes, the Chairman had "legally" eliminated these civilians, leaving Hilton feeling cold inside.
Kas patted his shoulder and addressed everyone in the meeting room, "No matter what, we've successfully eliminated 'Number One.' It was all worth it! May the gods bless Trenera."
With that, Kas's golden web-like projection gradually faded away in the meeting room.
With such a significant event, he needed to return and hold a press conference to explain the situation and clarify the dangers of 'Number One' to the public.
After the Chairman left, Hilton and the others looked at each other, speechless.
What Kas didn't know was that the skyscraper's laser beam hadn't killed Su Yu.
While they were in the meeting, Morning Star had been using the Starital to eavesdrop on their of and and relayed all the information to Su Yu.
Upon learning that Bobby had been exposed, Su Yu immediately realized he couldn't stay there any longer.
He casually cast a [Memory Erase] on Bobby, then entered a [Stealth] state and ran out of the slums as fast as he could.
Morning Star used [Stealth] to stay on Su Yu's shoulder, casting acceleration spells to increase Su Yu's speed and obscuring spells to reduce the chances of him being detected.
From the moment Bobby was exposed to when the Trenera Skyscraper fired its laser, about 50 seconds had passed.
During those precious 50 seconds, Su Yu managed to escape the slums unscathed.
Pant—pant—
In a quiet back alley, Su Yu leaned against the wall, gasping for breath, his face filled with relief at having survived another close call.
Behind him, thick smoke rose from the massive explosion that had just occurred.
The entire ordeal had been far too dangerous!
Fortunately, Morning Star's Astral Beacon could detect enemy movements. Otherwise, when the "Golden Giant Eye" at the top of the Skyscraper unleashed its laser beam, Su Yu would have had to rely on survival skills like Ice Barrier to gamble on his chances of living.
Even if Ice Barrier could block the laser, the magical fluctuations from casting it would attract every Skrull powerhouse in the city. By then, he might not even have the chance to use his Hearthstone before being cut down.
Thinking about it, he had truly cheated death this time!
But while he was relieved to have survived, Su Yu was also seething with anger: "These Skrulls are absolutely insane! I was just trying to buy some stuff! I offered gold in equal value, so they didn't lose anything. Why are they trying to kill me over and over again?"
"Counter," Morning Star rubbed her face with her paw. "Did you forget that you sank their floating island?"
"Right, but that's not important." Su Yu replied. "Bobby worked tirelessly for us for four days, and now he's been killed in the slums for no reason. We have to avenge him!"
Morning Star perched on Su Yu's shoulder. She wanted to comment on the "memory wipe" Su Yu had performed before leaving, but she kept it to herself.
Instead, she turned to him and asked, "Counter, how do you plan to avenge him?"
Su Yu's eyes glinted with a dangerous light. Instead of answering, he asked, "Morning Star, do you remember the three plans we discussed recently? I intend to execute the third plan!"
Since arriving in Trenar City, Su Yu and Morning Star had come up with three plans:
Plan One: Destroy the Trenar Skyscraper.
At the time, Su Yu didn't know that the skyscraper was a weapon, thinking it was just a residential building.
With over a million Skrulls living inside, if Su Yu could find and destroy the building's load-bearing structure, the skyscraper would collapse, causing hundreds of thousands of casualties.
Plan Two: Infiltrate the upper echelons of the Lankt Alliance's high society.
Many rich people in high society lack talent, so while they are wealthy, they are not very powerful individually.
If Su Yu could infiltrate a high society banquet through disguise, he could use Mind Control to take over a couple of rich individuals, forcing them to hand over their wealth to buy more advanced technology.
Plan Three: Destroy the floating island again.
After the floating island sank, it was sealed off by the god-tier powerhouse, Styme, in a region 40 kilometers north of the city.
However, the spiritual energy within the seal was too vast and increasingly volatile, and the longer it remained sealed, the more likely it was to break free and cause a secondary explosion.
Styme had no choice but to occasionally open a small gap in the seal to release some of the accumulated volatile energy, maintaining a temporary balance.
Su Yu's plan was to break through the seal, disrupt this balance, and trigger a secondary explosion of the floating island!
Given the current situation, the first plan was difficult to execute. The Trenar Skyscraper had just demonstrated its power, drawing attention from all sides, making it extremely challenging to destroy now.
While the second plan was feasible, it didn't really count as "revenge."
Therefore, he decided to execute the third plan, forcing the Skrulls to face the terror of the floating island's explosion once again!
