Chapter 66: Shut Up, I Never Said That!
Chapter 66: Shut Up, I Never Said That!
Ivan was quite depressed. Wasn't the powerful Blood Magic supposed to work? Or was it because his posture when taking the potion was wrong?
Suddenly, Ivan remembered that he had received a notification from the System when he was drawing blood, but he hadn't had the chance to check it due to Professor Mcgonagall's arrival.
After opening it, Ivan realized it was a task. Upon reading it, his expression became extremely complicated, and he almost wanted to curse out loud.
Task: Vengeance Promised
Task Objective: Kill Quirrell
Task Description: Cecilia is an adult female Unicorn, a free and holy creature that roams the depths of the Forbidden Forest. One day, she was killed by an evil wizard. In her pain and despair, you comforted her and solemnly promised to avenge her in the future.
Note: You need to fulfill your promise and gain Cecilia's recognition. Until then, she will choose to observe rather than provide you with any help.
Ivan was utterly confused. When had he ever promised to avenge Cecilia?
He clearly remembered saying,
"Your enemy probably won't live long anyway. Rest in peace."
This was just a statement of fact, with no hint of a promise. How did it get twisted like this?
Ivan angrily shouted in his mind,
System, get out here and explain yourself!
However, the aloof System remained silent.
"Norbert, I shouldn't have complained about your Blood Magic being too weak", the bewildered Ivan sighed, but it was too late to regret now.
No Blood Magic, so be it. Who knew if it was as powerful as described in *The Origin of Bloodlines*? It might be weak and ineffective.
Ivan tried to find a silver lining in his situation. At least his magic had been significantly enhanced, and he had gained more proficiency in magic.
More importantly, the System's task had no penalties. He could just leave it be. Maybe Quirrell would die from his injuries in a few days, and the task would be completed automatically.
After all, according to the law of cause and effect, he would have indirectly killed him.
After composing himself, Ivan left the potion storage room and re-entered the training room through the Room of Requirement.
He needed some time to master his newfound strength to avoid making critical mistakes in real combat.
By the time Ivan returned to the dormitory, it was already dawn. After practicing all night, he found himself heading to class again without a chance to rest.
Dragging his tired body, Ivan ate breakfast in the Great Hall half-heartedly. What puzzled him was that wherever he went, people were staring at him.
At first, Ivan thought it was because of yesterday's events, but he soon realized something was off. Even Harry and Ron were looking at him strangely.
"What are you all staring at?" Ivan finally couldn't take it anymore and asked.
"I think you seem different from yesterday", Ron finally spoke up, having held in his thoughts for a while. Harry nodded in agreement.
They couldn't understand how, after just a night's sleep, Ivan, their dorm mate, had changed so much.
Ivan was quite alarmed, fearing he might have turned into a half-human, half-Unicorn monster. He quickly used his Wand to transform an empty plate into a square mirror and checked his reflection.
Seeing his face in the mirror, Ivan finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Blonde hair, black eyes, it was still him, just with slightly paler skin and a faint blue glow in his eyes. More importantly, his demeanor had changed, exuding a natural charisma that made him seem almost like a legendary elf, even making him want to get closer to himself.
"Ivan, your Transfiguration Spell is getting better." Hermione, now sitting with a book, looked at the mirror on the table and sighed, then added playfully, "Of course, you also look more beautiful and a bit taller."
"I'd be happier if you didn't use 'beautiful' to describe me." Ivan waved his Wand, changing the mirror back, and rolled his eyes.
Ivan had some guesses about his current state. It seemed he had inherited the Unicorn's Affinity Talent, but he was puzzled why it wasn't showing up in his System status bar. This ability should be very powerful, but Ivan was quite troubled. The sudden and obvious changes in just one night made him worry that Dumbledore might notice something.
"How did you do it? Did you use a Potion? Could it be the legendary Love Potion?" Ron asked curiously.
"Who would use a Love Potion on themselves? And a Love Potion wouldn't have this kind of effect." Hermione immediately rejected Ron's suggestion but still looked at Ivan expectantly, clearly eager to know.
"I'm not sure. Maybe it's because I developed faster last night. You know, this age is when we start developing quickly." Ivan said vaguely.
Ron and the others were speechless. They were all about the same age, but they hadn't developed like that.
Ivan could tell they didn't believe him but didn't explain further. He wasn't planning to reveal the Bloodline Fusion Potion thing. For one, the methods to gather the ingredients weren't exactly honorable. If Snape found out he had stolen his Potion, who knows what he might do. Second, the success rate of the Bloodline Fusion Potion was unstable. Ivan wasn't even sure the recipe given by the System would work 100%, let alone let someone else try it.
As they chatted, a strange voice suddenly came from the Slytherin House table.
"I don't think Dumbledore will be staying at the school much longer. I sent a letter home yesterday, and my father was practically terrified when he heard there was a dragon at Hogwarts. He immediately informed the Ministry of Magic, and they say the inspectors will be here by this evening!"
Ivan quickly turned to look, seeing Malfoy holding a letter and boasting to everyone.
"Malfoy!" Harry slammed his hand on the table, ready to pounce and punch him.
Malfoy noticed Harry and his lips curled into a smile, speaking in a mocking tone, "Isn't that Potter? Once Dumbledore is gone, no one will be able to protect you."
"I didn't know your father was so cowardly. Just hearing there was a dragon at Hogwarts scared him so much. According to Seamus, I even rode it in the sky a couple of times." Ivan said calmly.
Malfoy immediately turned red, ready to shout back, but for some reason, seeing Ivan's face made him hesitate, almost as if he wanted to say something nice.
"My father is just worried about me!" Malfoy managed to say, reluctantly, before quickly moving away. He felt as if he had been charmed by Ivan.
