Chapter 66: Mastery
Chapter 66: Mastery
As soon as the Scale Controller cloned into four, Qiao Sang quickly realized that the Beastmaster Codex had added points to the Shadow Clone's stats.
Fangflare usually practiced releasing attack skills, but the Shadow Clone wasn't practiced as much.
As a result, the proficiency of Shadow Clone hadn't reached Proficient yet.
But that didn't matter.
Now was the perfect time to use the Golden Finger!
Qiao Sang silently praised herself for her quick thinking.
On the other side, Hou Xiangyu didn't lose his composure. He calmly observed the situation and immediately made a judgment.
"The one farthest from you."
No one understood what he meant, but the Shadow Puppet did.
The four Shadow Puppets simultaneously fired Illusion Beams at the Fangflare farthest from them.
The attacked Fangflare's figure flickered, and it began to run and move.
Four Illusion Beams came from different directions at the same time.
Just as it dodged one, another beam was already at its feet. Fortunately, Fangflare managed to evade with a flashy movement.
However, under the dense attacks, Fangflare became increasingly strained.
Just as an Illusion Beam was about to hit Fangflare, another Fangflare suddenly ran over and blocked the attack, then disappeared.
The audience understood what was happening.
The Fangflare being targeted was the original!
How incredible!
How did he figure it out?!
The audience didn't know, but Qiao Sang had a good guess.
When Fangflare suddenly strengthened the Shadow Clone, it tilted its head in confusion.
Among the eight Fangflares in the arena, only the original made this lifelike gesture, immediately distinguishing it from the clones.
Hou Xiangyu's insight was truly remarkable.
However, this kind of skill spamming without energy cost was exactly what she wanted.
As long as Fangflare could dodge and deplete the Scale Controller's energy, then...
Before Qiao Sang could dwell on the positive outcome, Fangflare was hit by an Illusion Beam and flew backward.
"Fangflare!"
Qiao Sang couldn't help but call out.
She couldn't deny that she was a bit panicked.
The journey with Fangflare had been smooth, and this was the first time it had been injured.
Knowing it was an uneven match, Qiao Sang still had a strong desire to win.
Giving up before the final moment wasn't her style, nor was it Fangflare's.
Qiao Sang steadied her nerves.
On the field, Fangflare had already gotten back up on all fours.
Fangflare nodded at its Beastmaster, its expression resolute.
Qiao Sang understood that Fangflare was telling her it was fine and could continue fighting.
The Illusion Beam had only caused damage and hadn't put Fangflare into a confused state.
Qiao Sang had calmed down.
She quickly assessed the situation and formulated a strategy.
"Copy it."
Hou Xiangyu, who had always been on her list, was someone Qiao Sang had studied.
A single teleport had rendered her original strategy meaningless, forcing her to come up with a new plan on the fly.
Fangflare didn't hesitate. All the clones, including the original, simultaneously shot flames at the four floating Shadow Puppets.
With more clones, Fangflare's flame spirals outnumbered the Illusion Beams.
Under the barrage of unequal skill usage, the four Shadow Puppets had to stop firing Illusion Beams and change direction, teleporting to avoid the flames.
Fangflare continuously swapped positions and continued its flame attacks.
Hou Xiangyu, watching the multiple Fangflares running and changing directions, could no longer tell which one was the original.
What a hassle.
He sighed, thinking that he would win the match easily, but it had taken so much longer than expected.
If this continued, Shadow Puppet’s energy might really run out.
The prolonged use of Illusion Beam had already drained a significant amount of Shadow Puppet’s energy.
Psychic Pets rely on their internal energy for defense, and without it, they would surely lose.
Hou Xiangyu had intended to save his trump card for the next semester’s class division competition, but it seemed he would have to use it in this Newcomer Competition.
"Use your full Psychic Power!" Hou Xiangyu shouted up to Shadow Puppet.
Qiao Sang frowned, a bad feeling gnawing at him.
Shadow Puppet, still teleporting to avoid the flames, heard the command. It stretched out its short arms, and the three Clones vanished, leaving only the original floating in the air.
After quickly teleporting to a distance to avoid the concentrated flames, Shadow Puppet didn’t emit the usual faint, translucent Psychic Power waves. Instead, a blue Psychic Power wave appeared.
"What is this!" the commentator exclaimed.
"This Psychic Power has reached mastery", Sha Duo finished the commentator’s sentence.
In the Guest Stand.
"Truly impressive for someone who got into Litan High School. To train a Shadow Puppet to this level at such a young age is no small feat."
"Normally, it takes four to five years to bring Psychic Power to mastery."
"Most people bond with a Psychic Pet and buy a bunch of Psychic Fruits to quickly boost their strength."
"Shadow Puppet probably doesn’t have much energy left. According to the books, when a Shadow Puppet’s energy is less than half of its prime, it can only float up to five meters. Look, it’s only about three meters high", a guest who had passed the Trainer Certification commented.
The guest next to him glanced at him and asked, "If you know so much, why haven’t you passed the F-Class Breeder exam yet?"
The guest who had passed the Trainer Certification: "..."
In the Arena.
Under Shadow Puppet’s full Psychic Power, all the Fangflares were lifted into the air.
How deep he had hidden his true strength!
Qiao Sang watched the scene with a headache.
Minor Mastery Psychic Power required locking onto specific targets to manipulate them.
But mastery-level Psychic Power could lock onto an entire area, controlling a wide range of objects.
How was he supposed to dodge this?
Unless the controlled familiar was stronger than the one controlling it, there was no way to break free.
The Fangflares floated in the air, bewildered.
How did they end up floating?
This feels so strange!
But before the Fangflares could enjoy the sensation of floating, their bodies suddenly dropped, crashing uncontrollably to the ground.
"Yah!" Fangflare cried out in pain.
One by one, all the Fangflares disappeared, leaving only one still lying on the ground.
Should he give up?
Qiao Sang sighed inwardly.
With a Psychic Pet that had reached mastery level in Psychic Power, winning seemed impossible. Continuing the fight would only result in more injuries for Fangflare.
Getting this far was already enough.
As long as he won the next match against Li Langyi, he could secure third place.
He did want to win.
But after trying and seeing no hope, he wouldn’t blindly persist.
Just as Qiao Sang was about to give up, Fangflare, despite its injuries, shakily stood up.
"Yah!"
Fangflare turned to look at its Beastmaster, annoyed by her hesitation.
Give the command already!
It wanted to beat this guy!
It had never been bested like this since it was born!
Although this match would have ended the Newcomer Competition, it turned out to be more than just a single match...
