Chapter 659: Thank Heavens Lanchi Isn't a Journalism Major
Chapter 659: Thank Heavens Lanchi Isn't a Journalism Major
Lanchi felt an invisible hand gently caress his neck, and what happened next would likely depend on his next move.
As Lanchi's heart filled with repentance, the sensation on his neck gradually faded.
"If you dare to have such unruly thoughts about me again, be prepared to become my footstool."
Talia retracted her magic, and her cold, mental voice echoed in Lanchi's mind.
Even in her unsummoned state, she could use spirit magic to control him.
This guy had been getting increasingly outrageous lately.
One of these days, he needed a lesson he'd never forget!
"Why are you so obsessed with capturing me?" Lanchi didn't understand. Every time Talia got angry, she'd knock him down without a word, leaving no room for explanation.
She never gave him a chance to speak.
"In the Demon Realm, this represents the hierarchy of power. Our status for this lifetime is just as I've shown you. If you disagree, prove your strength and pin me down someday." Talia laughed fearlessly, mocking Lanchi's weakness.
In an instant, the two exchanged several unspoken words in their minds.
The convenience of mental communication far outweighed the need for spoken bickering.
Ever since they arrived in the Kingdom of Posen together, the long journey by transportation meant that maintaining Talia's summoned state would be overly taxing for Lanchi.
The city was vast, located in the southern region of the Kingdom of Posen, spanning the Celena River. The area of Grand Pariette, including the surrounding suburbs, boasted a population of over 12 million, making it one of the largest cities on the Southern Continent.
After arriving in Grand Pariette by carriage, Lanchi and Talia would have to transfer to an airship to truly enter the heart of Pariette.
Lanchi snapped out of his brief daze and looked at the puzzled Lisancey across from him. He had stopped talking halfway through his sentence.
"Anyway, I've seen magic cuisine that can enhance one's magic and strength for a full 24 hours. It was so impressive. I heard that magic cuisine is very popular in Pariette, and many other cities can't compare to the chefs here." Lanchi continued.
According to the book Professor Polaoz had asked him to read, Pariette's history was layered with change, from its construction during the ancient Southern Continental Wars to its prosperity thousands of years ago, the Demon-Human fusion a hundred years ago, and its rapid flourishing in modern times. Each period had left its unique imprint on the city's streets, architecture, and parks, shaping Pariette's unique cultural heritage.
The Celena River divided Pariette into the northern and southern shores. Traditionally, the north shore was considered the center of academia and the arts, and it was also where the Posen Demon Realm was located. The south shore, on the other hand, was more commercialized, housing the Royal Palace and Senate of Pariette.
Pariette was divided into twenty administrative districts, each with its distinct character and atmosphere. For example, the Mahe district was renowned for its ancient architecture and vibrant church activities, while the Mingxi district was known for its museums, artist studios, and avant-garde ambiance. A newcomer to Pariette might spend half a year trying to navigate this gigantic city.
So, during their initial exploration of Pariette, Talia remained in her magic card form, residing in Lanchi's soul space most of the time, to ensure he had sufficient mana to handle any situation.
The melodious sound of the harp still lingered in Lanchi and Lisancey's ears, filling the grand hall.
"I can't make those at all. I'm a total novice. I can only occasionally whip up something with added attributes if I'm lucky." Lisancey waved her hands in denial.
A magic chef capable of consistently producing attribute-enhanced cuisine would likely be a Gold-ranked card maker.
"You're not weak, though." Lanchi said, confused as he studied her.
Compared to the average citizen with no rank or a first-rank, Lisancey was exceptionally strong.
In his eyes, the intensity of her magical power rivaled that of many second-year students at the Hecate Academy.
"After several years of study, while I may be considered a fourth-rank Green Mage, I'm completely inept at fighting."
She shook her head.
Elemental Mages have a diverse range of spells at their disposal, and they excel in intricate life and support magic rather than offensive spells. With that in mind, her career aspirations lay in becoming a magic chef.
"In that case, you're still amazing. Meals with added attributes are a whole different ball game, and in the world of card makers, your skills would be considered Silver-rank. If you were to go to the highest-rated restaurant in the capital, you'd probably have to settle for an apprentice position. But if you aimed a little lower, any restaurant would be fighting to have you as their pastry chef."
Lanchi offered this analysis from an employment and salary perspective.
This momentary insight caused Lisancey to wonder if this young man worked in educational consulting.
"That's... that's too much praise. I'm not as good as a Silver-rank card maker," Lisancey said, her eyes downcast.
In truth, finding a job wasn't going to be easy for her.
"By the way, what should I call you?"
"Lisansey."
"I'm Lanchi."
After chatting for so long, they realized they hadn't even introduced themselves, so they quickly exchanged names.
Perhaps due to their similar ages and the rarity of encountering peers to talk to on this journey, their conversation had already taken on a friendly tone.
"However, if you know so much about magic craftsmen, are you here in Pariette for the Platinum-level Card Maker Exam?" Lisancey asked, feeling that he didn't seem like he was here on business or to take the exam.
His demeanor screamed tourist.
Unlike the other annual local events, the Platinum-level Card Maker Exam in the eastern region of the Southern Continent was only held once every two to three years.
"I'm very interested in it," Lanchi admitted.
"Me too," Lisancey said, her eyes lighting up with nostalgia. "When I was little and visited the capital, I saw Duke Migaya once."
"You mean Duke Migaya of the Hutton Kingdom?" Lanchi asked curiously.
"Yes, don't you know him? Duke Migaya is quite famous in Pariette. The Platinum Flower Palace still houses his paintings, and he often comes to the Posen Kingdom for business related to the Southern Continent Card Makers Association. He presides over the Platinum-level Card Maker Exam every time." Lisancey's tone rose with excitement as she felt she had found a kindred spirit. "But... I won't get to see him this year. Even so, I still bought a spectator ticket. Maybe it's become a habit."
Lisansey lowered her head, her hands clenched lightly as she spoke.
"Oh."
It was clear that she held a great admiration for Duke Migaya.
Lanchi wasn't surprised. After all, Duke Migaya was indeed the epitome of a perfect man, and many believed that the only word to describe him was "art."
After all, Sibrian always felt that other boys paled in comparison, probably because she had grown up with Duke Migaya by her side.
"Don't worry, Duke Migaya will be back for the next Platinum-level Card Maker Exam," Lanchi consoled her.
Lisansey nodded, her eyes downcast, knowing that Lanchi was trying to comfort her.
The more she thought about it, the sadder she felt.
"Ever since Duke Migaya went missing, some despicable and unscrupulous media outlets have been stirring up endless rumors about him. There are even ridiculous suspicions that he's the Night Bishop. How is that possible? The Night Bishop is clearly a woman; they don't even have the same gender!" Lisancey's voice grew more agitated as she clearly held a long-standing grudge against these rumor-mongers.
It was said that the Night Bishop was elegant, rational, and captivating. A single glance from her could enchant countless young girls. She was an extremely mysterious and dangerous beauty.
How could they jump to the conclusion that Duke Migaya was the Night Bishop just because their paths happened to cross occasionally?
"Indeed, instead of spreading such rumors, they might as well claim that the Night Bishop is the High Priestess's fiancee. After all, the media's purpose is to tarnish the reputation of the Hutton Kingdom, and this way, they can smear both parties in one fell swoop." Lanchi added angrily.
"..." Lisancey was left speechless.
Thank heavens Lanchi isn't a journalism major.
Otherwise, even if Duke Migaya could return to the Hutton Kingdom, he might not dare to.
