Chapter 657: The Phoenix Priestess
Chapter 657: The Phoenix Priestess
In a boundless wilderness, devoid of vegetation, the world stretched out as a desolate landscape.
Suddenly, a ripple appeared in the air, like a disturbance in water, and a massive figure emerged into the wilderness—it was Feng Ye, who had entered the main world.
The world of Fairy Tail is one of magic, with various forms of spells and enchantments. This magic is one of the power systems possessed by the Creator God, Chaos.
Feng Ye's task is simple: to learn magic, starting from the basics, and then working his way up to fully master this power system, making it his own. By doing so, he will be able to draw upon the power of Chaos, replace it, and attain the Hundred Stars power.
"Hmm... This body is a bit too large."
Feng Ye observed his surroundings and, after a moment's thought, his colossal body disappeared without a sound. In its place appeared a figure of normal human height.
He hadn't shrunk his true form; he couldn't yet reduce himself to the size of a human. But this wasn't an insurmountable challenge. He temporarily turned himself invisible and used the light to project an image of his body.
"To learn magic, I need to start with the books."
Feng Ye tapped his finger on his chin, deep in thought. His first task was to read through all the magical tomes he could find.
He was quite familiar with the world of Fairy Tail. His current location was Ishgar, one of the three continents, and the timeline was approximately 400 years before the birth of the Fairy Tail guild, almost three centuries away.
The reason for his certainty was simple.
A quick glance revealed dragons scattered across the world.
In this world, the pinnacle of power wasn't humans but dragons. Before the creation of Dragon Slayer Magic, even the most powerful human magic was no match for the dragon race, and thus the world was under their rule, with humans as nothing more than playthings to be trampled upon.
It wasn't until the birth of Dragon Slayer Magic that a human named Acnologia rose to the peak of this magic, slaughtering the dragons and ending their reign, becoming the Dragon King himself.
That event had not yet occurred.
"Hmm?"
As Feng Ye's gaze swept across the continent of Ishgar, it suddenly landed on something to the left.
In a canyon in that direction was a girl, around sixteen or seventeen years old, dressed in a red priestess' outfit, wandering aimlessly through the Gobi Desert.
Her bare feet, treading on the sharp stones of the canyon, were soon cut and bruised, causing her to pause in pain.
Strangely, as she sat down, the wounds on her feet began to heal at a visible rate, and the blood that had flowed onto the ground disappeared without a trace.
The girl, Akelia, sat with her knees drawn up to her chest, her lips chapped and her gaze downcast as if lost in negativity. Unconsciously, her stomach rumbled loudly.
Just then, she started. She caught a whiff of roasted meat, drifting along the canyon, and couldn't help but take a few steps forward, drawn by the scent. She rounded a cluster of rocks and spotted a figure and a campfire in the canyon, unseen just moments ago.
Feng Ye sat by the fire, roasting a firebird he had just plucked from the sky.
Grrrr...
Akelia's stomach rumbled again as she watched, and she stood transfixed, her eyes glued to the bird in Feng Ye's hands.
Feng Ye slowly turned the bird over the fire, glancing at her and offering a faint smile. He held up the roasted bird and motioned for her to come closer.
Akelia hesitated for a moment but then stepped forward and joined him by the fire.
Feng Ye tore off a piece of the cooked meat and handed it to her.
"Th-thank you," she said, reaching out to take it from him. She offered him a grateful look.
As Feng Ye continued to roast the rest of the bird, he asked casually, "What's your name?"
"Akelia," she replied softly, taking a small bite of the meat.
Hearing her response, Feng Ye remained unfazed. He had already guessed as much when he saw her wounds heal moments ago. Though he hadn't directly read her thoughts, he had a good idea of her identity.
Chapter 657: The Phoenix Priestess
In a desolate wilderness, devoid of life, the world stretched endlessly. This particular period in time, four hundred years before the present, was a fascinating era. It was a time when the strongest dark mage, Jellal, was cursed; when Acnologia, the Black Dragon King, came into being; and when the Phoenix Priestess, Akelia, gained immortality and lost her memories in the process.
The world was under the rule of dragons, and any beings that survived in this harsh environment were undoubtedly powerful.
However, the word "powerful" did not apply to Akelia. Although she had attained eternal life, she knew nothing about magic, unlike Jellal.
It was the Phoenix, before its sealing, that could be considered a force to be reckoned with—one of the few beings in this world that possessed magic power comparable to that of dragons and could challenge them. It was indeed worth studying, being a relatively strong creature born from Chaos.
"Cough... Cough..."
Akelia's throat seemed dry from not having had water for a while, and after swallowing a few mouthfuls of the roasted meat, she started to choke. Her brows furrowed as she tried to swallow the food.
Feng Ye snapped out of his thoughts and looked at her. He lifted his left hand and picked up a stone, which transformed into a cup of clear liquid by the time he raised it to Akelia.
Without hesitation, Akelia took the cup and gulped down the water, quenching her parched throat.
Immortality only granted her eternal life; it couldn't erase hunger or thirst.
Seeing that the girl had finished the water and regained some energy, Feng Ye asked casually, "How did you end up here alone?"
"I... I don't know..."
Akelia looked down at the partially eaten roasted meat and replied softly, "I seem to have lost my memories. Aside from my name, I can't remember much else."
Feng Ye said calmly, "That's probably the influence of the Phoenix's power."
Akelia was taken aback for a moment, feeling that the term 'Phoenix's power' sounded familiar yet elusive. She furrowed her brows and asked, "Phoenix... Phoenix's power?"
"Yes," Feng Ye affirmed, then pointed at the girl.
Although he wasn't well-versed in the magic power system, he knew a great deal about souls and memories. Restoring Akelia's memories, which had been affected by the Phoenix's power, wouldn't be difficult.
Buzz!
White light emanated from Feng Ye's fingertip and entered the girl's forehead, causing her body to stiffen momentarily.
Her eyes widened slightly as her previously blank mind was flooded with past memories—from the moment the Phoenix was sealed by the Fire Village to her becoming their priestess, and finally, to the attack on the Fire Village and the village chief giving her the Phoenix's tear before his death.
All the lost memories resurfaced in an instant.
Akelia trembled as the memories returned, then dropped the meat she had been holding and sank to the ground, breathing heavily and propping herself up with her hands. Beads of sweat formed on her forehead.
Thinking of the tragic fate of the Fire Village, her expression turned pained, but she quickly bit her lip and lifted a hand to clutch the pendant around her neck.
It was half of the Phoenix Stone.
Since the Phoenix possessed the trait of rebirth and couldn't be killed, the Fire Village could only seal it within the Phoenix Stone, which was then divided into two halves. One half had been taken away, while the other half remained with her.
After several minutes, once she had processed all the recovered memories, Akelia took a deep breath and looked up at Feng Ye, saying, "Thank you for your help."
If not for Feng Ye restoring her memories, she might have continued on in a daze, unaware of her mission to deliver the Phoenix Stone to her father's magic research institute in the Boan Forest.
After expressing her gratitude, she stood up, ready to depart.
"Where are you going?" Feng Ye asked, looking at her.
Akelia hesitated, thinking that she shouldn't casually divulge matters concerning the Phoenix to others. "I have a place I need to go..." she said reluctantly.
Feng Ye smiled gently and said, "You're going to deliver the Phoenix Stone to your father's magic research institute, aren't you? I know what you're up to, but don't you want to fill your stomach before you leave?"
"..."
Akelia paused, then instinctively lunged at Feng Ye, grabbing his collar with both hands. "No, you're lying..."
Feng Ye looked at her calmly, his eyes glowing with a faint golden light.
Akelia's gaze locked with Feng Ye's, and then her vision was filled with countless images—snippets of the history that Feng Ye had previously read.
"This... this isn't true... this isn't true..."
Akelia's eyes lost their sparkle as she let go of his collar, shaking her head and stumbling backward. After taking two steps back, she sank to the ground as if all her strength had left her.
Feng Ye gave her a few more glances, this time using his Divine Eye to see through her clothes and observe the Phoenix power flowing within her body. He studied it in a more detailed manner than before.
Everything in this world was born from magic, and the Phoenix power was undoubtedly a type of magic, a rather uncommon type of immortality magic.
Furthermore, because the level of the Phoenix power in this world was also among the highest, the magic it contained was equally advanced. Even Feng Ye took some time to thoroughly understand its essence, a thoughtful look on his face.
It was around the time Feng Ye had deciphered the Phoenix power that Akelia finally began to recover from her grief.
She wiped away her tears and steeled herself.
Even if her father was dead, she still had to fulfill her mission as a priestess: to ensure the Phoenix never rose again!
Akelia bit her lip and looked at Feng Ye. "I was a bit too emotional earlier. I apologize, but you just said... my father had researched a magic to kill the Phoenix... Where is that magic now?"
Feng Ye didn't seem like a bad person, or he wouldn't have told her these things. Clearly, he was a mage, and she was just an ordinary person. Even with her immortality, she couldn't possibly resist him, and he also knew about her father.
"It's probably with the Magic Council," Feng Ye replied, the glow in his eyes fading as he regarded Akelia. "Are you planning to find that magic and kill the Phoenix?"
Akelia nodded firmly, clutching the half-piece of the Phoenix Stone pendant around her neck. "I will fulfill my duty as a priestess."
With half of the Phoenix Stone taken, she had failed to protect the remaining half. If someone were to discover and take it, the Phoenix might be resurrected.
The elder of the Fire Village had given her a mission before his death: to deliver this half of the Phoenix Stone to her father. Now that her father had passed away, he had still researched a way to kill the Phoenix. To ensure its permanent destruction, she had to find that magic and kill the Phoenix!
Feng Ye looked at her and said, "You drank the Phoenix's tears, and your life is linked to the Phoenix. Your immortality is also due to the influence of the Phoenix's power. If you use your father's researched magic to kill the Phoenix, then you, who are connected to its life, will also die."
"Would you still do it even if that's the case?"
At this point, Feng Ye stood up, his posture calm as he looked at Akelia.
Akelia's hand tightened around the Phoenix Stone. She didn't doubt the truth of Feng Ye's words; he had no reason to deceive her.
Biting her lip, she finally took a deep breath and said resolutely, "Even if that's the case, I will still do it. This is my mission. Please tell me how to get to the Magic Council!"
Feng Ye regarded Akelia with her determined gaze and smiled gently. Then, he reached out and took the half-piece of the Phoenix Stone from her hand. "Having the courage to face death for your mission is a commendable will."
"There's no need to go to the Magic Council."
"I'll do it here... I'll help you kill the Phoenix."
