Chapter 652: Being a Good Person, Occasionally
"So, you actually have time to contact me?"
A young woman with a delicate and beautiful face appeared in the two-way mirror.
"I need some Runy Snake Eggs. I've used up the previous batch."
"You know, we need results." Katherine reminded him with a smile, "Don't tell me they all failed."
"It would be normal even if they did. You should be well aware of the challenges in brewing the Baffling Potion," Albert examined the beautiful woman in the mirror as he took out the potion he had brewed, "I tried brewing it twenty times, discarded the complete failures, and what's left are in these vials. You need to find someone to test their effects. It's best not to let people consume them directly; who knows if it might turn them into idiots."
There were eight test tubes in the wooden box, each marked with different labels, indicating an increasing success rate as he progressed.
"I thought there would be fewer."
Katherine was surprised by Albert's talent in potion-making.
She was well aware of the difficulties in brewing the Baffling Potion. After obtaining the recipe, they had asked other potion masters to attempt it, but all had failed due to their lack of experience.
While they had managed to brew a few batches since then, none of them were perfect potions.
This meant that in order to successfully brew a Baffling Potion that was completely harmless to humans, they would need to invest a lot of money and have the potion masters practice repeatedly.
However, Katherine was more concerned about the progress of the beauty potions than the Baffling Potion. She had made no headway in her research and could only pin her hopes on Albert.
But upon learning that Albert had made no progress either, Katherine was deeply disappointed. It seemed that the woman was very concerned about her appearance.
Albert could understand her concerns to some extent.
After all, Katherine was at the most beautiful stage of her life, and it was natural for her to want to preserve her beauty.
It was only normal for a woman to desire beauty.
After the brief conversation, Albert put away the two-way mirror and mumbled, "A youth potion? I wonder if it can be obtained through the designated skill."
Humans were indeed insatiable.
He planned to find an opportunity to have his house-elf send out the potions and receive new materials in return.
Perhaps after brewing potions a few more times and gaining more experience, he would have a chance to create a perfect Baffling Potion.
He wondered when he would be able to obtain the "Potion Genius" skill. Maybe then he would be able to easily brew those challenging potions.
There was no choice but to wait, as Albert had already experienced the benefits of the "Magic Genius" skill. It was truly extraordinary, making it incredibly easy to learn new magic, and the direct effect was evident in the increased experience he gained while practicing magic.
Sometimes, when using magic, strange inspirations would pop into his mind, as if someone were suggesting new ways to utilize the spell.
Initially, he had not been proficient in the advanced applications of the Patronus Charm, but now he could produce multiple patronuses simultaneously to deliver messages to several people.
The word 'transcendence' best described Albert's current state, as he felt like he had undergone a metamorphosis and become an entirely different person.
He owed all of this to Tom's selfless contribution.
Of course, Albert's transformation was not solely due to the "Magic Genius" skill but also the enhancement brought about by the "Extraordinary Magic" skill.
Tom Riddle's exceptional abilities were indeed impressive.
Albert wished he could acquire more skills from this formidable boss.
He also coveted the skills possessed by Dumbledore, but the difficulty of obtaining skills from Dumbledore far exceeded that of acquiring them from Tom.
"Let's leave it to fate. There will definitely be other opportunities," Albert consoled himself, pulling out his notebook from his pocket and glancing at its contents before heading towards the Great Hall to meet up with his roommates.
That was what Albert had intended to do before using the Time-Turner.
The Time-Turner was indeed a wonderful device.
It was a shame that he had to return it at the end of the year.
If possible, Albert would have wanted to create a fake one to return instead, as he knew that all the Time-Turners had been destroyed during Harry's intrusion into the Ministry of Magic.
Perhaps in a few years, he could sneak into the Ministry of Magic, use Harry and the others as bait, and steal a Time-Turner for himself.
It would be better for him to keep the Time-Turner safe rather than let Harry ruin them all.
Albert quickly pushed away such shameless thoughts.
If he could, he wanted to learn how to create a Time-Turner himself.
"I wonder if Nico knows how to make one." Albert planned to find time to chat with Nico about it.
Nico Flamel seemed like a treasure trove of knowledge, and Albert felt that he should dig deeper... no, communicate and exchange ideas with him.
As he passed through the entrance hall, Albert was stopped by an acquaintance.
Kenneth's face was pale, and he looked unwell.
"Are you...?" Kenneth's eyes were fixed on Albert.
"No, your losses have nothing to do with me." Albert looked at Kenneth calmly and said, "Ultimately, it was your greed that led to this."
Kenneth trembled with anger, his lips quivering as he spoke in a soft voice, "If not for you and Potter, I wouldn't have lost all my galleons."
"No, you would have lost all your galleons anyway, even if you hadn't tried to capture the Slytherin heir." Albert stated the cruel truth, "In fact, Professor McGonagall intended to close the school. You can ask the students who stayed for the Easter holidays if you don't believe me."
"Wh-what?" Kenneth's eyes widened in disbelief.
"Actually, you made a mistake from the very beginning." Albert looked at the poor boy with pity and gently reminded him, "You seem to have forgotten that the students here have very limited purchasing power. Most of them don't even have a single galleon, yet you wanted to sell them expensive amulets. How did you expect them to buy them?"
Kenneth's mouth hung open, speechless.
"In fact, the purchasing power of the entire British wizarding community is quite limited. If you had known when to stop, you wouldn't have lost money at all. But your greed got the better of you, and so you were destined to lose."
Before Kenneth could recover, Albert patted him on the shoulder and walked away, leaving the boy standing there in a daze.
Albert attributed Kenneth's situation to his poor understanding of economics.
Therefore, if one wanted to make money, it was essential to read more books.
"Is there something the matter?" Albert asked, noticing someone staring at him.
Katrina replied with a strange expression, "I saw and heard everything."
"Kenneth is really pitiful." Albert shrugged helplessly, "If I hadn't told him, he probably wouldn't have been able to get over it mentally."
Katrina said with a peculiar tone, "You're actually a good person!"
"I can be a good person occasionally."
