Chapter 65: Superconductor
Chapter 65: Superconductor
Superconductor is arguably one of the most popular professions, if not the most.
And it's easy to see why—superconductors are just so cool! Their core ability, "Stellar Force Superconductor," is incredibly fascinating. Once fused, it not only enhances their physical body comprehensively but also provides decent boosts in strength, defense, and speed.
Most importantly, it grants them an extraordinarily high efficiency in converting stellar force, with their bodies acting like superconductors with zero electrical resistance, resulting in minimal energy loss during conversion.
Based on this characteristic, superconductors can master a wide range of energy-generating abilities.
Be it high temperatures, low temperatures, lightning, airflow, sound, or light, superconductors can seamlessly switch between different forms of energy and applications!
Coupled with the ultra-ability "Composite Reaction," which allows them to control the aggregation, combination, hedging, and annihilation of two or more distinct energies, they possess not only immense power but also the ability to create a myriad of unexpected effects, akin to a magician from a fantasy novel.
Through ability combinations, superconductors become extremely versatile in combat.
Close combat, long-range attacks, speed, control, and burst damage—superconductors can do it all. With a template rating of 52 in the ADC system, they surpass most other profession templates.
Strength may be temporary, but coolness lasts forever.
And superconductors have both strength and style, making it no surprise that they are one of the most favored professions among the extraordinary.
Ji Xinghuo had watched countless videos showcasing the flashy techniques of superconductors when he was younger, and for a while, he was obsessed with this profession, often fantasizing about becoming one himself.
However, as he grew older, his interests changed, and he gradually forgot about this childhood dream.
Now, seeing a superconductor in person, Ji Xinghuo felt a sense of resonance but no particular longing.
"I'm a Magnetic Field Rogue now," he reassured himself. "Stronger than you now, and I'll be even cooler in the future!"
Ji Xinghuo gazed at the departing Wan Beast Taming Team, his thoughts drifting to another matter. They must have been quite close to Juefeng Valley, or they wouldn't have arrived so quickly.
Not only was Wan Beast Tamer powerful, but they were also highly efficient in their searches.
With a large group of battle pets spreading out, they swept through areas like vacuum cleaners, making their searches far more productive than those of other extraordinary individuals.
"I need to hurry up," Ji Xinghuo urged himself.
He turned toward another direction, an area he hadn't searched yet.
He never returned to places he had already scanned with his magnetic field sensing ability, and from yesterday until now, he had covered over 80 square kilometers.
The area where the meteor fell was approximately 300 square kilometers, and he estimated that he could search half of it by the end of today.
As he continued his search, he also tried to avoid others as much as possible.
However, even after the sky grew completely dark, Ji Xinghuo still hadn't found the Tear of Stars, and the number of extraordinary individuals in the vicinity was increasing. Everyone was searching relentlessly, but to no avail.
"Could it be that it's not in this area?" Ji Xinghuo wondered, a seed of doubt planting itself in his mind.
There was another possibility—someone might have already found the Tear of Stars and kept it a secret, choosing to leave quietly without drawing attention.
But with so many extraordinary individuals and hunting teams keeping a close eye on each other, if someone had indeed found the Tear of Stars and decided to leave in a hurry, they would undoubtedly arouse suspicion.
"It doesn't seem like anyone left today," Ji Xinghuo mused, trying to recall if he had noticed anyone acting suspiciously.
He glanced at the distant figures still searching in the darkness and decided to follow their example by forgoing rest for the night. With the remaining hours of the night and the entirety of the next day, he estimated that he could cover most of this area. If he still couldn't find the Tear of Stars, he would leave without hesitation, not wanting to waste any more time.
The longer they stayed, the more people would arrive, and the greater the chances of conflict.
Even without finding the Tear of Stars, there had already been three bloody conflicts today, all disputes between teams. Two extraordinary individuals had lost their lives.
Ji Xinghuo wanted no part in this mess.
The night passed.
Ji Xinghuo only managed to rest his eyes for a little over half an hour, and when the golden light of the sun bathed Juefeng Valley, he felt a bit dazzled. His physical stamina was fine, but he felt mentally exhausted.
"Let's keep going!"
"Only about 50 to 60 square kilometers left to search."
Ji Xinghuo ate some dry food and drank some water. Little Green Snake poked its head out of his pocket, its golden eyes conveying a hint of dissatisfaction.
It had finished all the food it had stored up the day before.
"Just one more day, little guy. Hang in there," Ji Xinghuo coaxed. "Who knows, I might need your help today. It's about time you earned your keep after I've been feeding you for so long."
Little Green Snake seemed to consider this, nodding before retreating back into his pocket.
At noon,
Ji Xinghuo's search led him to the foot of a mountain.
This place was quite bustling due to a small lake at the mountain's base, measuring about 400 to 500 meters in length and width, with a maximum depth of over ten meters. Several small streams flowed into the lake, keeping the water clear and pristine. The surrounding area boasted lush, expansive grasslands, making it an ideal spot for many hunting teams to set up camp, fetch water, freshen up, and rest.
The lake was teeming with fish, and they were quite sizable, swimming back and forth in the water.
And where there were fish, there were fishermen.
Ji Xinghuo immediately spotted several extraordinary individuals sitting by the lake, their fishing rods and bait seemingly standard equipment for their hunting expedition. They had chosen their spots early in the morning, chopped wood for makeshift chairs, and sat motionless, waiting patiently for a bite.
Those without fishing rods crafted their own from branches, joining the fishing frenzy.
Some had already caught fish and were roasting them over open fires on the shore.
Others were even bathing and swimming in the lake...
With tents pitched, fish roasting, and people swimming, the scene resembled a weekend camping trip rather than a group of hunters on an expedition.
Little Green Snake caught a whiff of the grilled fish and poked its head out again, its eyes gleaming with anticipation.
Ji Xinghuo sighed helplessly.
"Fine, fine. I'm hungry, too."
He hadn't searched this area yet, and it would be a good opportunity to fill his own stomach and Little Green Snake's while scanning the surroundings with his magnetic field sensing ability.
He walked to a less crowded section of the lake, and with his Myriad Stellar Vision, he could see the large fish swimming in the water.
This lake had already been thoroughly searched by other extraordinary individuals, including the lake bed, so if the Tear of Stars was here, someone would have found it by now.
Everyone else probably thought the same, which was why the lake's shore had become a relatively safe haven.
Ji Xinghuo didn't have a fishing rod, but he had other means.
He took out an arrow, tied a length of nano-rope to its tail, and notched it to his bow, aiming at the fish in the lake. As he swept his magnetic field sensing ability back and forth, he locked onto a fish over half a meter long and was about to shoot when his expression changed slightly, and he turned his attention to another large fish not far from the first.
However, its magnetic field was peculiar! Ji Xinghuo sensed that its magnetic field was vastly different from that of the other fish, as if two fields were superimposed. The smaller field belonged to the fish's biological magnetic field, while the other was hundreds of times stronger and centered within its body, with highly regular magnetic force lines and extreme intensity.
There was something inside the big fish's belly!
Could it be the Tear of Stars?
Ji Xinghuo's heart skipped a beat as he made a guess. Had the Tear of Stars fallen into this lake and then been swallowed by this big fish?
No wonder no one had found it.
When a meteor falls to the ground, it leaves obvious traces, knocking down trees and burning them, leaving a large pit.
But so far, no one had discovered the pit caused by the meteor.
It must have fallen into the water.
There were many small lakes and streams in the area spanning several hundred square kilometers, and people had searched them thoroughly.
It wasn't that no one had thought that the Tear of Stars might have been swallowed by a fish.
But there were too many fish in the lake. To catch and gut them all would take time, and it might be better to let others take the risk first. If the Tear of Stars remained missing, some would definitely try this method.
"I might just hit the jackpot!"
Ji Xinghuo quickly calmed himself and turned his bow in another direction, away from the big fish.
Whoosh!
He shot an arrow into the water but missed his mark.
Several nearby extraordinary individuals glanced at him, noticing his embarrassed expression as he pulled the nano-rope to retrieve his arrow. They didn't pay it much mind.
Many wanted to try their hand at shooting fish with a bow, but due to light refraction, it wasn't easy to hit the target on the first try.
Ji Xinghuo tried several more arrows but still failed to hit his mark.
"Move further away if you want to shoot. Don't scare all the fish away," said the closest fisherman with a hint of annoyance.
Ji Xinghuo ignored him and shot another arrow into the lake.
"Hey..."
The fisherman was about to lose his temper and stand up to scold him when he saw Ji Xinghuo's nano-rope go taut, indicating that his arrow had hit something.
A large fish flopped onto the shore, pierced through the gills by the arrow.
"Hehe..."
Ji Xinghuo flashed a triumphant smile at the fisherman.
"Pure luck!"
"Shooting fish with a bow lacks soul..."
The fisherman muttered to himself, baited his hook, and cast his line again, but his eyes kept drifting towards Ji Xinghuo. He hadn't caught a fish this big before. If he had, he would have proudly paraded it around the lake.
Ji Xinghuo used his tactical knife to end the fish's life, preventing further struggles.
Then, he proceeded to clean the fish as one normally would.
He scaled the fish, slit open its belly, and began removing the entrails. As he reached into the fish's stomach, he felt a hard object about the size of a ping-pong ball. Its surface was smooth and even, with distinct edges, resembling a cut gemstone.
From such close proximity, Ji Xinghuo was certain it was the Tear of Stars even before he finished cleaning the fish.
In his eyes, ether energy surged towards the fish's belly, creating intense fluctuations and even forming an invisible energy vortex.
Suddenly, a vast amount of energy surged into his arm.
Due to the overwhelming power, his body couldn't handle it, and his entire arm felt a searing pain, as if he were holding a red-hot steel ingot. He had no choice but to let go.
Only Super Extraordinary Individuals and above could absorb the Tear of Stars.
"Wow, that's powerful!"
Ji Xinghuo nonchalantly withdrew his hand and continued cleaning the fish's entrails, leaving the Tear of Stars in its belly.
With his back to the fisherman, he quickly took out a prepared cloth strip, reached into the fish's belly, wrapped and secured the Tear of Stars, and then discreetly placed it in his bag, pretending to reach for seasoning.
This entire process took only three to four seconds and didn't attract any attention.
Ji Xinghuo breathed a silent sigh of relief.
"I can't leave right away."
"I need to stall for a bit longer. I've got to play this out properly."
Ji Xinghuo proceeded to finish cleaning the fish, carried the meat to the lake shore to wash it, and then went into the nearby forest to gather some firewood. He returned to the lake shore, lit a fire, and began roasting the fish.
He turned the fish over the fire, added seasoning, and the aroma of grilled fish wafted through the air.
Everything seemed perfectly normal.
Once the fish was cooked, Ji Xinghuo devoured it heartily, satisfying his hunger. As the fish was too big for him to finish, he packed the leftovers to feed Little Green Snake later. Then, he pretended to lie down for a nap on the lakeside grass before leaving.
Suddenly, the ground began to shake.
The people by the lake turned to see a large group of wild beasts and monsters approaching through the trees.
In the sky, giant-mouthed pterosaurs and silver-winged pegasi landed on the grass, while a flock of blood crows perched in the nearby trees, leaving only five hawk falcons to continue circling above.
"What a grand entrance..."
The extraordinary individuals by the lake had no choice but to move away, giving them a wide berth.
The Conductors and Superconductors dismounted from the silver-winged pegasi, and the Beast Tamers from the Wan Beast Taming Team jumped off the giant-mouthed pterosaurs. They quickly set up portable tables and chairs, laid out food and drinks, and directed their battle pets to take turns drinking and feeding by the lake, all in a well-organized manner, clearly accustomed to such routines.
Some hunting teams nearby didn't want to be too close to the Wan Beast Taming Team, so they quickly packed up and left.
Ji Xinghuo watched from a distance of several hundred meters, then turned and walked into the forest, disappearing from the sight of the extraordinary individuals by the lake.
Several hundred meters away, the Superconductor watched Ji Xinghuo's departing figure, a hint of confusion in his eyes.
"Brother Pei, what's wrong?"
The female Conductor beside him noticed his expression and asked.
Pei Hong shook his head slightly, unsure, "That Ranger had some strange ether fluctuations, but I can't be sure from this distance. Maybe I'm mistaken."
