Chapter 65: I Transform!
Chapter 65: I Transform!
Clang!
Suddenly, a wisp of black shadow shot out from the surroundings, trailing a wisp of cold light as it crossed blade in an X-shape.
It was ten claw blades, crossed in a deadly formation.
A massive force jolted through Buggy’s arm as his sword Huazhou flew from his grasp. It spun through the air before burying itself into the rocky ground.
Hiss!
Buggy’s figure exploded backward, though deep claw marks still raked across his face. His expression darkened as he glared at the newcomer.
It was a man who looked exactly like his current body.
"Got quite a bit of nerve, fake", Buggy spat, his hands gripping the Ten Blades as he smirked at the identical figure before him.
Kuro silently reached for his Huazhou and stood there wordlessly, staring at Buggy.
Meanwhile, Lida simply smiled and pulled out a snack bar to munch on.
Buggy’s face contorted. His skin rippled like melting wax, reverting to his original appearance.
"How did you discover me?!" he demanded angrily.
Klah pushed up his glasses, the moonlight reflecting a cold gleam off the metal. "That hostility you spewed while impersonating Kas stank worse than rotten herring in a tin can. Hard to miss, really."
Lida added, "And you pushed your glasses with your fingers, not the palm of your hand like the real Klah does. Total giveaway."
Buggy narrowed his eyes. "So it was the hostility. My mistake. You’ve also got Observation Haki? Taking me here was just to isolate me from the Navy, to avoid me killing those ordinary Navy grunts? Clever plan indeed."
He turned to Kuro. "You’re not ordinary Navy at all. You came specifically to capture me, didn’t you?!"
"?"
Kuro tilted his head, confusion flashing across his face.
In truth, he hadn’t figured anything out.
That Klah was fake?!
Impossible! There was no difference at all! Both looked equally weak!
Hostility? What hostility? Didn’t Klah always glare at him with that grudge-filled hatred?
Wait—he was impersonating Kas?
So the Kas he met earlier was fake too?
All those conversations he had today... were a complete waste?!
This guy tricked me?!
"Move aside."
Kuro grumbled at Klah, who instinctively stepped aside. Kuro raised his blade. Buggy’s body tensed as a chill ran down his spine.
"Transform!"
His skin surged and twisted, morphing into a mighty hawk that shot skyward.
Mimic Fruit—of course it wasn’t limited to human forms. He could transform into anything he’d ever seen!
But as he soared toward the heavens, Observation Haki screamed a warning. A terrifying force loomed so suddenly he couldn’t even change direction. He reverted to his original form midair, crashing down in a tumbling heap.
A massive golden slash streaked past where he’d just flown, arcing into the sky. The golden and silver crescents of the moon glowed in contrast.
"Unforgivable."
Kuro gripped his blade, voice icy. "Wasted all that time... just for a fake."
Down below, Buggy rolled to his feet, staring at Kuro in shock.
What was that slash?! Even if they’d come specifically for him, this power was still absurd!
Getting hit by that would’ve been fatal!
"Dammit!"
Buggy roared, "If you were just ordinary Navy, I’d have completed my plan and set sail on the Grand Line by now!"
"You’re going to the Grand Line?" Lida tilted her head.
"Of course! That’s paradise! But alone, I don’t have enough strength. If you were just ordinary Navy, I’d already stolen your ship and entered through the Calm Belt!"
"That", Lida raised a hand, "just a quick interruption. You can transform into flying animals, so couldn’t you just fly straight across from any direction? Whether the Calm Belt or Reverse Mountain."
Buggy paused, mouth agape. Suddenly, he slammed his right fist into his palm, realization dawning. "Ah!!!"
Lida stared blankly at the idiotic Buggy.
In some ways, this one was a complete moron.
"Is he a pirate?" Kuro asked Klah.
Klah nodded. "Bak Arlo, the ‘evil impostor’ with a bounty of 370 million. Not worth the bounty in strength, but he frequently disguises himself as Navy to infiltrate bases and massacre everyone. A wicked criminal who challenges the Navy and leaves nothing but fire and blood."
"Then he deserves to die."
Kuro slowly sheathed his blade, readying his stance. At this moment, Klah stepped forward.
"Perfect. Let me test my new technique on him."
Kuro shrugged and walked to Lida’s side, lighting a cigar as he leaned against a boulder.
The unspoken message clear.
Go ahead. Show me what you’ve got.
Klah inhaled deeply, tightening the gloves on his claw blades as he faced Buggy. "Three hundred and seventy million. Whatever you did to earn that bounty, your strength must be something. You were one of last year’s Super Novas. Let’s see—will our gap be wide or narrow?"
"Just a lowly Navy grunt", Buggy scoffed. His eyes darted. The other two were hard to read. But that Kuro blocked his attack so easily and unleashed that monstrous Flying Slash. Definitely a dangerous foe.
The girl didn’t seem threatening, but her calm confidence probably meant she wasn’t weak either.
If he tried to run, they’d corner him. He’d have to defeat this glasses-wearing guy first and use him as a hostage.
Though this guy blocked his signature attack, Buggy’s strength wasn’t limited to that.
"Shave!"
Before Buggy even finished thinking, Klah materialized before him. The five claw blades gleamed coldly as they slashed downward.
"I transform!"
Buggy recoiled, curling his body as it morphed into a massive beetle with an armored shell. Klah’s claw blades struck, sparks flying on impact.
"This..."
Klah stared in shock. "Not just normal animals—you can become powerful creatures too?!"
Kuro exhaled a smoke ring.
This guy’s transformations were indeed versatile. If he stuck some fur on himself and grabbed a stick, he’d be ready for battle.
In this world, countless powerful creatures existed—true beasts of terror. Even the Sea Kings, each the size of an island, were disasters beyond disasters.
This pirate’s transformations were limited to beasts, far inferior to Zoan Devil Fruit users. Even an average Zoan Devil Fruit user gained massive enhancements. Buggy, at best, merely replicated some animal traits.
This beetle’s shell was clearly steel-hard.
But it was just steel.
"Calm Step!"
Klah slashed again, five razor-sharp blades glowing with blue slashes. They fused into a single wisp, slicing straight toward the thick shell.
