Chapter 649: Leaked Information, Umbridge's New Decision
Chapter 649: Leaked Information, Umbridge's New Decision
After Kyle left the Forbidden Forest, he turned back to take one last look.
Hagrid was still stubbornly searching through the denser bushes, but his efforts were destined to be in vain.
Shaking his head, Kyle continued on his way back to the castle.
Kona had been waiting at the castle entrance and immediately ran over to him.
"Where did you go just now?" she asked in a low voice. "I thought I saw Mr. Malfoy in the Forbidden Forest when class ended."
"Actually, I went to look for him."
"Why would he come to Hogwarts?" Kona asked in confusion. "Is it because of what happened with Fred and George?"
"That's part of the reason," Kyle said. "I think they'll be able to play Quidditch again after today... if Umbridge doesn't come up with another excuse."
"That's great!" Kona said happily, but her joy was short-lived as she thought of something else.
"Wait, you said 'part,' does that mean Mr. Malfoy had other reasons to see you?"
Kyle looked around to ensure no one was nearby before lowering his voice. "I want to try to get Umbridge away from the school."
"Lucius Malfoy... do you think he can get rid of Umbridge?" Kona asked, sounding skeptical.
While the Malfoy family was wealthy, they didn't hold any significant positions in the Ministry of Magic. Could they really decide Umbridge's fate? Even if they could with Galleons, it was unlikely that Malfoy would help them.
"Well..." Kyle pondered for a moment before explaining, "I actually came up with an idea after seeing Hagrid, and I think it might be somewhat useful.
"It just so happens that Lucius Malfoy is here as well, and if he's willing to help, it might increase the chances of success for this plan."
"But will he help us?" Kona asked. "If I remember correctly, the Malfoys are on Fudge's side, aren't they? After all, they've spent quite a few Galleons over the years to maintain their good relationship with him."
"It's worth a try," Kyle said calmly. "And if he refuses to help, we can always come up with another plan later."
The two walked side by side into the castle and made their way to the Great Hall for lunch.
In the Great Hall, everyone was discussing another matter.
Professor Sybill Trelawney, the Divination teacher, had been placed on probation... a decision made by Umbridge that very morning.
Professor Trelawney had been drinking heavily due to this, and she couldn't stop complaining even during class.
"This is really terrible," Kyle said as he and Kona sat down at the table, with Cedric joining them just in time.
"I heard that besides Professor Trelawney, Professor Babbage from Muggle Studies has also received a warning. She just didn't make a big deal out of it like Professor Trelawney and get drunk, or let everyone know about it," Cedric said.
"How did you find out?" Kyle asked curiously. "I remember you didn't choose Muggle Studies as one of your subjects."
"It wasn't me," Cedric shook his head. "It was Angelina.
She saw Umbridge in the corridor and wanted to catch up to ask about Fred and George. But she happened to see Umbridge giving a piece of parchment to Professor Babbage.
"Angelina said that Professor Babbage looked really upset, almost on the verge of tears... Besides a notice of probation, I can't think of any other parchment that would make a professor so scared."
Kyle looked up at the staff table. Professor Trelawney and Professor Babbage were both absent from lunch, but Umbridge was there, happily cutting into her steak.
However, apart from her, the other professors didn't seem very happy. Even Professor Flitwick, who usually enjoyed chatting, was unusually quiet. The entire staff table was shrouded in a gloomy atmosphere.
It was clear that everyone felt this matter was far from over...
Kyle understood that Professors Trelawney and Babbage were just the beginning, the first steps in Umbridge's bid to assert her authority.
Of course, she wouldn't dare to go too far, such as directly expelling Professor McGonagall or Professor Flitwick...
After all, unlike Professor Trelawney, these professors were truly accomplished, each adorned with honors, and their former students could be found in every corner of the British magical world.
If Umbridge dared to expel them on false charges, she would likely cause an uproar in the magical world, and even Fudge might not be able to protect her then.
But while expulsion was off the table, creating some obstacles for them was still within the realm of possibility, such as interfering with their teaching.
There was a solution, however. The simplest one would be for the professors to lower their standards and become like Snape.
With a simple Obliviate spell each day, Umbridge would be guaranteed to create no waves.
But achieving this was no simple task, and Professor McGonagall was unlikely to agree to such antics. Without her on board, the plan would fall apart.
Kyle felt more and more that his idea was the right one, and Hagrid and Lucius' arrival was very timely.
The matter with the Ministry could not be delayed any longer. If Umbridge were allowed to remain at the school, every subject would be affected.
After hastily finishing his lunch, Kyle stood up, intending to find Hagrid to discuss something.
But before he could even leave the Great Hall, Umbridge approached him first.
"Come with me," she said in a sickly sweet tone.
Kyle had no choice but to temporarily abandon his plan to find Hagrid and follow Umbridge to the Defense Against the Dark Arts office.
When he entered the office, he realized that he wasn't the only one summoned there that day.
Montague, Pansy, Millicent, Crabbe, and Goyle from Slytherin were also present... Oh, and Draco Malfoy, who had just been discharged from the hospital wing.
However, upon seeing Kyle enter, Malfoy instinctively took two steps back, and his face turned even paler.
"Draco, what's wrong?" Pansy asked concernedly.
"N-nothing..." Malfoy shook his head.
"He must still be unwell," Montague glanced at him and said loudly, "The punishment for the Weasley twins and Potter was too light. Violent maniacs like them should have been expelled!"
Malfoy's body trembled, and he involuntarily looked at Kyle.
But Kyle acted as if he hadn't heard Montague's words, showing no reaction.
"Oh, they won't need to be banned from Quidditch anymore," Umbridge said as she walked in. "By tomorrow, their punishment will be changed to detention."
"What? That's unfair!" Montague exclaimed.
"So, Mr. Montague, do you have any objections to my decision?" Umbridge smiled at him.
Montague's expression froze, "N-no, Professor Umbridge, whatever you say is fine with me."
"Good." Umbridge smiled.
"Now, forget about the Weasleys, I have a more important task for you all."
She continued, "I've received information that there's an organization within the school that teaches people how to use various dangerous types of magic.
"It's too dangerous to have such evil people hiding in the school. I want you to find these people and their meeting place immediately. Understood?"
