Chapter 649: Doubt
Chapter 649: Doubt
Jiang Xia nodded. "To be honest, I'm currently in the process of taking over a clothing factory."
She had personally sold the surplus inventory of clothes and noticed that the workmanship was quite good.
The workers at the Clothing Factory were skilled.
Yang Qiuqiang was still there and glanced at Jiang Xia when he heard this.
He was a bit suspicious of their relationship.
The Clothing Factory Manager also knew that after the Spring Breeze Initiative, the government selected some factories to pilot a new business strategy.
Some of these factories struggled to sustain themselves and had to transform.
Their factory, which mainly focused on exports, was in a better position.
He smiled. "Alright, once you take over the factory, I'll give you part of the work."
He had complete trust in Jiang Xia's capabilities.
He was worried that other factories might not do a good job, leading to rework, which would be troublesome.
"Come and take a look. Which styles do you want to produce?"
Jiang Xia: "No rush. We'll see which styles you can't produce in time. If you can produce them, there's no need. Outsourcing to another factory will increase costs."
Her own clothing factory wasn't yet under her control, and she needed to discuss the production speed with the factory manager.
"Alright, we'll see then."
After Jiang Xia and the factory manager agreed, she left with Zhao Chenglei.
This time, they could really go home.
Once Jiang Xia and her husband were far enough away, Yang Qiuqiang approached.
He asked the factory manager, "Those three foreigners placed a lot of orders, right?"
"Yes, two of them were multimillion-dollar orders."
Mentioning these valuable orders, his voice couldn't hide his excitement.
The factory manager estimated that the orders for clothes alone would be around five million, and when you add shoes, bags, and accessories, it would total another five million.
Yang Qiuqiang picked up the order and asked casually, "I heard that Comrade Jiang Xia was hired as a translator by several factories."
The factory manager laughed. "She's more than just a translator. Comrade Xia is our factory's brains!"
Yang Qiuqiang: "..."
"Is she on commission?"
"Yes, she works on a commission basis, so we don't have to pay her a salary."
"Is her commission high?"
"Not at all. She earns more for the factory than her commission."
Jiang Xia had increased the prices of all the runway styles, and her one percent commission was a small fraction of what she earned for the factory.
Factory Manager Peng said that even if Jiang Xia took a commission, the factory wouldn't lose out. Her ability to raise prices and sell the products meant that she earned what she deserved, and the extra profits still belonged to the factory.
Yang Qiuqiang: "..."
What kind of answer was that?
It was practically nonsense!
If Jiang Xia's commission was higher than the factory's earnings, that would be a problem.
"How much exactly?"
The factory manager didn't answer directly. "It's not much, just a low percentage. I need to calculate the quantity and have the procurement team buy the fabric as soon as possible. I have to get back to work. Comrade Yang, you should go home early!"
Yang Qiuqiang: "..."
He was being evasive and changing the subject. If they weren't colluding, he wouldn't believe it!
His suspicions only grew stronger!
*
Jiang Xia linked arms with Zhao Chenglei as they walked out of the exhibition hall. "I'll call Dad tomorrow to ask about the factory's inventory and have him take over the clothing factory."
Outside the exhibition hall, there were hardly any people left. Zhao Chenglei bent down. "I'll carry you back."
Jiang Xia shook her head. "No need, it's only a few hundred meters."
He had been standing at the booth all day, and she had already changed out of her high heels.
At that moment, a car honked lightly from the roadside.
The couple looked over and saw that it was Jiang Dong's car.
Jiang Dong and Zhang Fuyan had also come to watch the fashion show. Jiang Xia thought they had gone home after it ended, but they were still around.
Jiang Xia pulled Zhao Chenglei and hurried over.
Inside the car, only Jiang Dong was there. Zhang Fuyan had already returned to the hotel, exhausted from the day. Jiang Dong had sent her back first and came to pick up his sister.
After getting in the car, Jiang Xia said, "You've been tired all day too. You don't need to wait for me tomorrow. Go back to the hotel early and rest. You don't have to watch the fashion show."
"I'm not tired. Sitting in the car is also resting."
How could he let his sister, who had stood for over ten hours, walk back home?
Jiang Dong joked, "Tomorrow is the men's fashion show. I have to go and see if there's anything I like. If I find something, will you buy it for me, sis?"
"Sure." There were a few nice outfits, and she had planned to buy them anyway. She wanted to get something for every man in the family: "Did Xiaoyan see anything she liked today? I can buy it for her too."
"Yep, I'll tell you tomorrow." Jiang Dong didn't hesitate to ask his sister.
While watching the fashion show, he had kept an eye on the styles Zhang Fuyan liked. There were a few that she particularly enjoyed and that suited her well.
Jiang Dong had planned to ask his sister to help buy them.
Jiang Xia said, "If she likes them, buy a few more. You can leave the ones you buy for my clothing factory to use as samples. Don't worry about spending money; I'll earn it back."
The men's outfits they bought could also be used as reference patterns for the factory once they were worn out.
The pattern makers at the clothing factory she had taken over likely didn't know many styles. After all, they had been working there for decades, and the factory produced only a few basic styles.
However, Jiang Xia didn't plan to produce men's clothing in the next couple of years. She would wait until she had more time and energy.
Designing a piece of clothing wasn't easy.
From the initial design to the final product, many people were involved in the process.
The designer would create a design, which would then be approved by the factory manager or owner to proceed with the pattern. The pattern maker would create the paper pattern, and the designer would go to the fabric market to find suitable materials and accessories. They would buy the fabric and accessories, and the tailor would cut the pieces according to the paper pattern. The pieces would be handed to the pattern maker to sew together. The finished garment would then be tried on by a model for a fit check. Any necessary adjustments would be made, with the designer making changes to the design or the pattern maker adjusting the pattern. The garment would be reviewed again, and the process would continue until the factory manager, owner, or chief designer was satisfied.
Of course, the process wasn't always the same for every piece of clothing. Sometimes, a designer would get inspiration from a fabric they saw in the market, bring back a fabric swatch, and design a garment based on it. The swatch would be given to the purchasing department to buy the fabric.
Sometimes, the factory would have leftover fabric, and the designer would create styles to clear the inventory.
But the basic process was similar.
After the designs were finalized, the factory would invite buyers to place orders. Once an order was placed, there was still a lot of follow-up work to be done.
From the design department to the pattern room, procurement department, production department, quality control, warehouse, and sales, everyone in these departments would be busy.
Even a simple T-shirt, if produced by a factory and not a private tailor, usually involved the collaborative effort of over a dozen people.
