Chapter 648: Su Heyuan's Wedding
Chapter 648: Su Heyuan's Wedding
Before long, the day of Su Heyuan's wedding arrived, and his celebration was also held at the Peninsula Hotel. It was a stroke of luck that the original booking for that day had been canceled due to unforeseen circumstances, as finding another venue would have been troublesome.
Lu Jiaxin and Nie Zhan arrived early at Su Heyuan's villa. As Su Elder and Su's father were both traditional men, the villa was adorned with red lanterns and adorned with large, festive red characters.
Su Heyuan was chatting with some guests when he spotted the couple and greeted them cheerfully, "I thought you two might not make it so soon!"
Lu Jiaxin didn't stand on ceremony with him and asked, "If there's anything we can do to help, just let us know. This day only comes once, so we should make the most of it."
Su Heyuan wouldn't dare to order her around, and he replied with a smile, "When the time comes for the wedding ceremony, please put in a good word with your sister-in-law for me. Don't make things difficult, and let me receive the bride smoothly."
Lu Jiaxin laughed heartily and said, "Consider it done. Leave it to me."
As everything was prepared on their end, the group set off in their cars to Hu's mansion to fetch the bride. Typically, the bride would be received at the groom's home, and the couple would serve tea to their elders before proceeding to the hotel. However, considering that Hu Huihui was already pregnant, they decided to omit this step to avoid tiring her. Instead, they would head directly to the hotel after receiving the bride.
Upon arriving at Hu's mansion, Su Heyuan was indeed stopped when he went to receive the bride. Contrary to expectations, he wasn't faced with riddles or quizzes but rather a request for red packets. He had to provide red packets to everyone's satisfaction before they would open the door.
Su Heyuan had already distributed most of the red packets he had prepared, and only six remained. It was clear that such a meager offering would not suffice. Just as he was contemplating pleading with those inside, Lu Jiaxin pulled out ten thick red packets from her bag.
As Su Heyuan went inside, Nie Zhan smiled and asked, "Did your sister-in-law give you a heads-up beforehand?"
Lu Jiaxin replied with a laugh, "I asked my sister-in-law about the wedding procedures, and she gave me a detailed account, which included this red packet custom. I prepared these just in case, but who would've thought they'd come in so handy!"
In truth, even without the red packets, they would have been let in, as this was a wedding after all. The obstruction was more for the sake of livening up the atmosphere than any genuine difficulty. As long as Su Heyuan was willing to humble himself and plead with the bridesmaids inside, they would have let him off the hook.
When the bride arrived at the hotel, there were still forty minutes until the wedding ceremony. Hu Huihui was escorted to the presidential suite to rest, and Lu Jiaxin stayed with her at Su Heyuan's request.
Hu Huihui smiled and rubbed her stomach, which was already starting to show her pregnancy. "The doctor said both me and the baby are healthy, but I can't help but be cautious."
Lu Jiaxin replied with a warm smile, "Sister-in-law, you should understand Heyuan's situation. He's already thirty, and this is his first child. Of course, he's going to be extra careful."
Not only Su Heyuan but also his father attached great importance to this child. Upon learning of Hu Huihui's pregnancy, he was overjoyed. Even Su Heiyuan's scoldings lessened as a result.
Hu Huihui looked at Lu Jiaxin and asked, "I've heard that people on the mainland favor boys over girls. What if I give birth to a daughter? Will Heyuan and my father-in-law dislike her?"
Her own parents favored boys as well, and her family's property was solely for her two brothers. As for her, she only received a dowry when she married. However, since Su Heyuan was chosen by her in-laws, her dowry was quite substantial. But she had heard that on the mainland, not only was there no dowry, but the groom's betrothal gifts were also withheld.
Lu Jiaxin reassured her with a smile, "Don't worry! After Heyuan's mother gave birth to Su Heiyuan, she wanted to have a daughter as well. Unfortunately, she didn't get her wish. Heyuan said that it had always been his parents' regret."
"Really?"
"When have I ever lied to you?"
Hu Huihui's heart was slightly comforted by these words.
Lu Jiaxin thought about how she, too, had grown up in a family that favored boys over girls, and she feared that her own daughter would face the same environment.
With a reassuring tone, Lu Jiaxin said, "Sister-in-law, don't worry. If you give birth to a girl, Yuan Ge and your father-in-law will definitely dote on her to the heavens."
A smile finally appeared on Hu Huihui's face as she rubbed her stomach. "I'll love my child regardless of gender. But the baby is already three months old, and we still haven't thought of a name."
Lu Jiaxin laughed. "Perhaps Yuan Ge wants to give your child a unique name."
Hu Huihui shook her head. "I'm afraid the baby will be born before we even think of a name. Jiaxin, you were always the best student. How about you help us choose a name?"
The truth was that it wasn't because Jiaxin was the brightest, but because they believed she had good fortune and wanted her luck to rub off on the child.
Lu Jiaxin quickly waved her hands. "No, no, no, Sister-in-law. I can help with anything else without hesitation, but naming is another matter. Just look at the name I gave my company to see how bad I am at it."
After saying this, she offered a suggestion. "If you're still struggling to come up with a good name, you can always ask the baby's grandfather and grandmother for help."
Upon hearing this, Hu Huihui quickly but politely refused, saying, "This is my and He Yuan's first child. We want to choose the name ourselves."
Noticing that Hu Huihui kept glancing at her watch, which was now the fourth time since they entered, Lu Jiaxin decided to distract her by bringing up the topic of her early entrepreneurial days. "It was only because I was in Guangzhou, beyond their reach, that I was able to earn my first bucket of gold. Otherwise, they would have definitely stood in my way."
"Jiaxin, not only me but also my father praises you as someone who truly started from scratch," Hu Huihui said. Her father had also spoken highly of Lu Jiaxin, who had amassed a net worth of several billion in just five short years without any backing. Initially, many people had belittled her, assuming that her wealth came from the financial market, gained quickly and lost just as fast. But contrary to their expectations, Lu Jiaxin hadn't gotten addicted to the financial market. Instead, she had invested her money in real industries, and now, Xin Xin Realty alone had a market value of over a hundred billion. According to Hu Huihui's father, Nie Zhan wasn't just marrying a wife; he was bringing home a hen that laid golden eggs. If Lu Jiaxin knew of Hu's father's evaluation, she would probably have had something witty to say in response.
Lu Jiaxin laughed, attributing her success to good financial luck. Since Su He Yuan had already given her this label, she might as well embrace it.
The conversation helped to distract Hu Huihui, and she visibly relaxed. However, their moment was soon interrupted by a knock on the door. The makeup artist entered and touched up Hu Huihui's makeup.
After the makeup artist finished, the group escorted Hu Huihui downstairs, where they handed the bride over to Hu Zhifeng. Lu Jiaxin then went to look for Nie Zhan.
Yu Meitung was the first to spot her and, knowing that she was looking for someone, smiled and said, "Don't bother looking. Nie Zhan is busy attending to Su's guests. Let's find a place to sit down first."
"Okay," Lu Jiaxin replied.
The wedding ceremony began, but Nie Zhan still hadn't appeared. Lu Jiaxin didn't pay it any mind and focused on listening to the speeches given by both sets of parents. Hu's parents spoke politely, as was customary, but when it was Su's father's turn, his words were filled with emotion, and his voice even choked up toward the end.
Su Heyuan's eyes turned red as he listened to his father's speech.
Lu Jiaxin explained to Yu Meitung, "Yuan Ge's mother passed away a long time ago. It was a difficult era marked by scarcity, and it wasn't easy for Su's uncle to raise them by himself."
The scarcity of food and clothing was one thing, but the real challenge was their undesirable family background, which made them a target for many. Unable to withstand the torment, some chose to end their own lives.
"Wasn't it said that Su Heyuan's uncle was a high-ranking official?" Yu Meitung asked.
Lu Jiaxin smiled and replied, "It was only because of his uncle's protection that the father and son were able to survive peacefully without being persecuted to death."
Yu Meitung shuddered as she listened, finding the whole situation terrifying.
