Chapter 647: You Are Her Only Friend, Aren't You?
Chapter 647: You Are Her Only Friend, Aren't You?
"Forbidden Forest is too dangerous. Can't you convince her to drop this idea?" Hermione said with concern.
"I'm afraid that's going to be difficult", Ivan sighed, shaking his head. Luna was determined to find the Blossoming Trace Fairy Tree and the possibly existing Crumple-Horned Snorkack, and he couldn't think of a good reason to persuade her otherwise...
In fact, he also thought Luna's plan was quite dangerous, especially with the recent unrest at Hogwarts. Barty Crouch Jr. was hiding nearby, and what if he was lurking in the Forbidden Forest?
This was why Ivan wanted to give Luna a protective ring, so she would have some means of self-defense if she encountered danger.
"Why don't you go with her, then?" Hermione, noticing the worry in Ivan's eyes, suggested after a moment's thought.
Ivan looked at Hermione in surprise, taken aback. "But... we're supposed to attend the Dance together, aren't we?"
"It doesn't have to be today!" Hermione quickly added, realizing she had sounded too eager, her face turning red as she shyly continued. "You two can go in a few days!"
Ivan stared at Hermione for a long moment, almost thinking he had misheard her.
"You are her only friend, aren't you?" Hermione looked at Ivan seriously, recalling her interaction with Luna the previous day. Her words carried a hint of apology.
"I'll talk to her and see if she's willing to wait a bit. Then we can all go together!" Ivan smiled. He had always been worried about Hermione and Luna not getting along, but it seemed he had overthought it.
"I won't waste my time looking for something that doesn't even exist. That would be incredibly boring!" Hermione shook her head, firmly stating her stance.
"By the way, you haven't told me what gift you're giving me", Hermione changed the subject, unwilling to continue the previous conversation.
"It's a secret for now. You'll find out at the Dance!" Ivan replied mysteriously, maintaining the air of suspense.
Hermione turned her head away, feigning anger, but she couldn't help noticing someone from the Slytherin table occasionally glancing in her direction.
Ivan followed her gaze and saw Krum, his good mood instantly fading.
"Has Krum been bothering you? Do you want me to teach him a lesson?" Ivan asked.
"Don't be like that, Ivan!" Hermione grabbed his arm, glaring at him disapprovingly.
Then, perhaps worried that Ivan might misunderstand, she quickly added, "What if Gryffindor loses points?"
"We've already earned a lot of points this semester. Losing a few won't matter..." Ivan shrugged indifferently.
This year was different. Harry and Ron, who were usually the top two troublemakers, hadn't had many opportunities to lose points. Combined with Ivan and Hermione's efforts in class, Gryffindor's House Points had been leading since the start of the term.
Once he won the Triwizard Tournament, they would gain even more points, and the second place would be far behind.
Seeing that Ivan was seriously considering taking action, Hermione found herself unsure whether to be happy or angry.
However, to avoid any conflict, she tried her best to soothe the situation. Krum had indeed invited her to this year's Dance, but she had already clearly declined!
"He invited you? When?" Ivan furrowed his brow.
"Just a few days ago. I told him I already found a dance partner!" Hermione said in a low voice.
Hearing Hermione's words, Ivan felt even more like giving Krum a good beating, but under her pleading and supervision, he eventually gave up the idea.
...
Due to spending so much time flirting in the morning, Ivan's planned study session was forced to a halt.
After all, the Christmas Ball was in the evening, and everyone had to spend the afternoon setting up the venue and preparing for the Dance.
Ivan didn't mind; he could change clothes in just a few minutes. But the girls were different; they needed several hours to put on makeup, get dressed, and choose their outfits.
So after lunch and a brief rest, Ivan had to temporarily part ways with Hermione and return to the boys' dormitory alone.
Upon opening the door, Ivan found Harry, Seamus, and Neville already back, changing into their dress robes. Even Ron, who was usually hard to find, was there.
Ivan greeted them with a smile and walked to his bed, clapping his hands.
With a "pop", a house-elf appeared before him, none other than Dobby.
"Merry Christmas, sir!" Dobby looked very happy, as if the festive atmosphere of the castle had infected him. He joyfully handed over a beautifully crafted dress robe.
Ivan took off his outer coat and put on the dress robe. Dobby promptly brought a mirror for Ivan to check himself.
Ivan thanked him and looked at his reflection.
The elegant dress robe he wore was a modified version of a Muggle tuxedo, entirely black with golden and red patterns at the edges, giving it a touch of mystery and a hint of darkness.
"Hey, you look really handsome, Ivan!" Harry walked over, patting his shoulder and teasing him.
"I figured that out without your reminder..." Ivan smirked and laughed in response.
While joking with Harry, Ivan also noticed that Dobby had put down the mirror and looked hesitant, unsure of what to say.
"What's wrong, Dobby? Do you have something to tell me?" Ivan asked proactively.
"Can Dobby give you a gift, sir?" Dobby mustered up the courage to ask, holding the edge of the mirror in his hands, looking at Ivan with a mix of fear and hope.
"Of course, I would be very happy!" Ivan nodded.
"That's wonderful!" Dobby beamed, snapped his fingers, and disappeared. When he reappeared, he was holding an armband!
The fabric looked like it had been torn from an old bedsheet, with one part even patched up. In the center, a red thread was woven into the shape of a strange-looking dragon, with a tiny figure barely visible on its back.
Ivan barely managed to recognize it as the image of himself taming Norbert during the first task.
"This was made by Dobby, sir!" Dobby explained carefully.
"Thank you, Dobby!" Ivan said, though he doubted he would ever wear the armband, he appreciated Dobby's gesture.
Dobby jumped with joy and then looked at Ivan expectantly, as if waiting for something.
