Chapter 647: Wish Fulfillment
Chapter 647: Wish Fulfillment
Convincing others is already a challenging endeavor, but trying to persuade a stubborn individual like Hagrid is even more daunting.
Albert never expected to succeed in dissuading Hagrid from his unrealistic notions. His attempts were more in the vein of offering a friend sincere advice and seeing if it might trigger a new quest.
Ever since enrolling at Hogwarts, the probability of triggering new quests from the panel had increased significantly, far more frequently than before his arrival at the school. The difficulty of completing these quests had also lessened to a noticeable degree.
Of course, Albert was aware that this perceived ease was largely due to his familiarity with the 'plot' and his steadily growing strength.
However, he wondered if he would still be able to acquire experience at this rate once he graduated and left Hogwarts Castle.
Probably not! After all, Tom Riddle's value as a source of excellent panel quests would likely be exhausted, and it would be challenging to encounter another major boss-level character who could offer such quality tasks.
Although Albert entertained the thought of treating Voldemort like a cash crop to be harvested, he quickly dismissed this absurd idea.
After all, even the Dark Lord had his pride, and angering him would undoubtedly make Albert's life difficult.
Upon returning to the castle, Albert headed straight for the Room of Requirement and threw himself into a soft sofa, adjusting to a more comfortable position. He opened the task panel to check on the completed but unclaimed quests, taking a moment to light a candle for "Good Guy" Tom, wishing him a peaceful journey ahead.
His gaze shifted to the top of the panel, where he began to clear out the quests that could be finalized.
"Ancient School: Hogwarts" was a quest triggered right after his arrival at the school, and it was now at 68% completion. The quest could be concluded, but Albert intended to leave it until after his graduation from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Another quest, "Exposed," which involved uncovering Lockhart's secrets, was currently stalled at 63%.
At this rate, it seemed that Lockhart would have to be exposed personally by Albert, revealing his ugly true self to everyone, proving that he was nothing but a fraud.
Albert couldn't help but wonder if he would have to wait until this incident was publicized in the 'Prophet Daily,' exposing Lockhart as a charlatan to the entire British wizarding community, for the quest to reach 100% completion.
However, even without fully completing the quest, he could still claim the rewards.
With Lockhart now insane, Albert had no intention of continuing to persecute him, so he decided to collect the rewards.
The experience gain was a mere 6,300, and he could only choose one between skill points and a designated skill. Albert opted for the latter, believing that Lockhart's skill panel might offer him some surprises.
Upon claiming the quest rewards, Lockhart's skill panel was unveiled before Albert, and while it was pitifully sparse, it did bring him some delight. There was a special skill related to Lockhart's profession—Deceitful Plagiarist.
Yes, deceiving others and stealing credit—a fitting description of Lockhart's actions.
The other option was Creative Writing, but it was just an ordinary skill.
After much deliberation, Albert chose the former.
He had no choice; Deceitful Plagiarist was a skill that didn't require upgrading, and such unique skills were usually quite valuable.
Albert estimated that possessing this skill would enhance his lying capabilities.
Oh, he almost forgot—he was an honest person. How could he ever deceive others?
It was more like telling the truth.
The quality of the quests and rewards extracted from Lockhart was rather mediocre compared to those provided by the major boss, Tom Riddle.
Hence, there was a valid reason for considering Tom a good person.
This term, Tom had single-handedly furnished Albert with some of the highest-quality quests: "Unspeakable Secret," "Secret Digger," "Survival Instinct," "Mistaken Decision," and "Tom's Fury," which had collectively earned him 35,500 experience points, 4 skill points, and the special skill 'Snake Language.' Additionally, he could choose two designated skills from Tom.
When Tom Riddle's skill panel appeared before him, Albert was stunned. It was on a completely different level from Lockhart's, leaving the latter's in the dust.
There were eight panels in total, containing at least a thousand skills, far surpassing Albert's own lackluster panel and leaving him dazzled.
"If only I had more opportunities to delve into these skills," Albert murmured as he gazed at the mastered skills on the panel. "Don't rush. There will be more interactions with Tom in the future. He's a good person, and there will be chances."
There were quite a few peculiar skills, such as one called Ancient Bloodline Descendant, which undoubtedly referred to the "Slytherin Lineage."
He had no interest in that, as he already had the Wizard's Bloodline skill maxed out. Later, another similar special skill appeared—Weldsmith Descendant.
Snake Language—check.
As for Horcruxes, Albert was intrigued. The prospect of achieving immortality, whether through dark or light magic, wasn't something he was particularly concerned about.
However, he could acquire knowledge about Horcruxes at Hogwarts, so there was no need to waste an opportunity on that.
Moreover, Albert leaned more towards using the Philosopher's Stone to prolong his life.
If he genuinely wanted to extend his lifespan, he would strive to obtain a Philosopher's Stone.
As for various dark arts, Tom Riddle's skill panel was a treasure trove, including dangerous dark magic like the Fiendfyre curse.
Nonetheless, Albert had no interest in dark magic, even though he knew the three Unforgivable Curses.
Despite not considering himself a good person, Albert understood that excessive use of dark magic could make one irritable and prone to resolving issues through violence.
That wouldn't do! On the third page, there was a rather underwhelming special skill—Erudite.
Even more surprising was the skill that symbolized Tom's genius—Magical Prodigy.
Yes, you read that right—Magical Prodigy.
There were numerous other miscellaneous skills, such as one for creating Inferi. Ultimately, Albert's attention was drawn to two special skills bearing the adjective "Extraordinary."
There was no denying that the word "extraordinary" carried a certain allure.
Albert chose "Extraordinary Magic," leaving the other option, "Extraordinary Technique," for now.
In truth, he wanted to select both extraordinary skills, but during the "Tom's Fury" quest, he had opted for Magical Prodigy.
And so, his fake genius status had finally transformed into the real deal.
As for the other skills, Albert believed that there would be opportunities to acquire them before Voldemort met his end.
Regarding the failed quest, "The Basilisk Must Die," Albert wasn't too bothered by it. While the rewards were enticing, the risk of counterattacks from the Basilisk outweighed the benefits. He suspected that the two magical items included in the rewards were crafted from the creature's corpse.
With the Basilisk having perished only a couple of days ago, its body still lay in the Chamber of Secrets. Albert intended to invite Potter to explore the chamber soon, take some photographs, and collect materials.
Albert suspected that Salazar Slytherin's Chamber held more secrets besides the Basilisk. Otherwise, there would be no need to construct such an elaborate chamber just to house a single creature. Perhaps, among those secrets, were the dark arts mastered by Voldemort. Even if there were no valuable artifacts, extracting some fangs or scales would still be worthwhile. The Basilisk was a rare creature, and its body was bound to hold items of significant value.
