Chapter 647: Hero Altar
Chapter 647: Hero Altar
[Hero: Unlock Building - Hero Altar.
Elite individuals loyal to the player can receive the bestowal of heroic status at the Hero Altar, thereby gaining enhanced skills, a level system, equipment slots, and independent command of their forces.]
Note: Heroes are born to level up, whether it's slaying wild monsters or the farmers across the field!
"Heroes."
"It's like a real-time strategy game."
Lindsey shook his head and chuckled.
The emergence of this skill naturally sparked numerous ideas in him.
Although not all RTS games have the setting of hero units.
One cannot deny that since the introduction of heroes in strategy games, the entire system has undergone a revolutionary change, and heroes often become a crucial factor in determining the outcome of a game.
Lindsey promptly opened the building list.
The resource requirements for the Hero Altar were incredibly low.
100 wood, 100 stone, and 50 gold coins.
For the Insect Nest or the Forest Capital, one only needed to convert one type of resource into food or wood.
Lindsey turned around immediately.
The fungal mat behind him sensed its master's will and split open, allowing Lindsey to walk down the path.
"Mourner, come here."
"I'm going to build a special new building, and I need your help."
A few minutes later, the Mourner stood before Lindsey.
A new space had been carved out in the underground nest.
A massive fleshy cocoon structure was taking shape in the center of the cave, while other Insectoid workers were filling up this enormous model bit by bit.
"Ah... Lord Lindsey?"
The Mourner was perplexed:
"You called me here because this new building has special features—does it train some kind of unique unit?"
The Mourner was in charge of all operations in the Insect Nest.
He had overseen the nest's construction and civilization upgrades and was responsible for training the Insectoids to send to the frontlines during expeditions.
But in all these instances, he had never seen Lindsey as focused as he was now.
Lindsey nodded and then shook his head:
"This thing is called the Hero Altar, and it can indeed train new abilities, but it's a bit different from what you might imagine."
Lindsey turned to face the Mourner, speaking earnestly:
"This altar will bestow special abilities upon certain individuals, something very similar to my skills."
The Mourner was shocked.
The fangs in his mouth even rubbed together nervously:
"Your... Your skills?!"
"It's not as exaggerated as you think." Lindsey waved his hand, "And this transformation has a limited number of slots."
"But as the manager of the Insect Nest, you will undoubtedly be the first to receive this power!"
The Insectoid tribe had no concept of humility or yielding.
The Mourner quickly accepted this arrangement and once again expressed his gratitude and loyalty to Lindsey.
Lindsey turned to look at the under-construction Hero Altar.
This building would only take three hours, and he could wait here without any issues.
According to the upgrade status of the Forest Capital, Insect Nest, and Underground Fortress, these bases could provide 3, 3, and 2 heroes, respectively.
Just focusing on the present, once the Hero Altar here was completed, and the Mourner successfully took office, there would still be two vacant slots.
"..."
"Mourner, after you become a hero, you can also select a target to receive this treatment."
"You can choose the candidate yourself from within the base. Or, if you wish, you can leave it for later as a reward."
Lin Sai offered the Mourners an extra slot for bioengineering transformation.
This decision wasn't driven by any desire to hoard resources but rather by a sudden inspiration.
The Insect Nest could undergo this transformation.
And so, the Lord wondered, could he, as the ruler of this territory, also become a hero and benefit from this transformation?
Two hours later, the Insectoid workers around the area had cleared out, and the Hero Altar was fully constructed.
Slurp—
A thick fleshy wall opened up, revealing a slit like a dilated pupil.
The inside of the altar was covered in deep red fleshy buds that greedily wriggled and were coated in a transparent viscous fluid.
It seemed that as soon as someone stepped inside, the structure would instantly close, subjecting its occupant to some sort of evil, fallen bioengineering transformation.
Glug—
Lin Sai swallowed, unsure why.
He pointed at the crack before him and said to the Mourner beside him, "Alright, go on in."
The Insectoid seemed unfazed by the scene.
The Mourner calmly stepped inside.
Slurp—
The fleshy wall closed.
The glowing Fungal Mat in the entire cavern began to wriggle faster, providing nutrients to the Hero Altar.
This hero transformation took much longer than the healing chamber.
After half an hour, the fleshy cocoon reopened.
The Mourner quickly emerged, and Lin Sai immediately noticed that the Insectoid seemed different from before.
This difference wasn't merely external.
It was something more internal, akin to the elevation of an ordinary person becoming an Awakened.
"Mourner, how do you feel?"
The Mourner immediately replied, "My Lord, I feel amazing! And I do have something different. Now, through killing, I can gain something called experience points. Accumulating these will allow me to level up and gain more powerful abilities..."
As the Mourner explained, Lin Sai pulled up the attribute panel.
The hero information for the Insect Nest was already etched onto the panel.
Insectoid Hero: Mourner
Level: 1
Skills: 0/1
Inventory: None
Lin Sai looked up at the Mourner, "You should be able to learn a skill now, right?"
The Mourner nodded, "Shell Aura, Carnal Devour, and Genetic Enhancement."
"Shell Aura provides a certain degree of defense enhancement to me and friendly units within a certain range. Carnal Devour allows me to heal my wounds quickly by devouring flesh and blood. And Genetic Enhancement, once chosen, will enhance all my attributes."
After describing these three skills, the Mourner paused.
He took a moment to sense the power within him before continuing, "There seems to be an even more powerful skill that I can learn in the future. It's called Swarm Plague, which allows me to summon insects to damage enemies and pollute the land. But I can't learn it now because my level is insufficient."
"..."
"Okay, I understand."
"Choose the skills according to your needs and let me know."
Lin Sai nodded slightly, then walked towards the Hero Altar himself.
The Mourner's description left him deeply intrigued.
"..."
Lin Sai swallowed again.
He reached out towards the wriggling flesh, which was unsettling, but he proceeded nonetheless.
