Chapter 646: Consequences and Scheming
Chapter 646: Consequences and Scheming
Did I forget someone?
Upon hearing the words of the Aquarius Director, the Raven Masked Man's expression momentarily froze, and then he suddenly widened his eyes in disbelief.
"Is that Lyon still in the Virgin Bureau? I thought you said you could definitely hold him back and, at the very least, keep him in the Dream Realm for more than half a year?"
"You remembered it wrong. I didn't say 'definitely' hold him back; I said I could try to see if I could hold him back."
After correcting the Raven Masked Man's statement, the Aquarius Director sighed softly and then explained with a hint of helplessness:
"Regarding this matter, I've already done everything I could. According to my plan, even if he could withstand the onslaught of a million nightmares, it would still be difficult for him to resist the Nightmare King with the advantage of terrain. He would likely only be able to hold on desperately.
In the end, he would either be completely corrupted by the Nightmare King or forced to merge with the newly born Nightmare King. And even in the worst-case scenario, he would be polluted during his fight with the Nightmare King, turning him into a half-dream creature, unable to return for a short period.
But he pulled out a strange trump card I've never seen before. He chased after the newly born Nightmare King, completely emptied the Soul-sink Abyss, wreaked havoc throughout the entire 21st layer of the Dream Realm, and even almost left me behind. My escape was already an extraordinary feat."
"..."
Isn't this... too outrageous?
"In any case, we will likely have to face him next, and for such an unpredictable opponent, it's never too cautious."
Looking at the silent Raven Masked Man, the Aquarius Director smiled and then concluded:
"Although you are the God of Calamity and Chaos, when it comes to creating chaos and disasters, he might very well surpass you in every way. In all aspects, he is your nemesis.
Moreover, he's not stupid either. If, due to your itchy hands, you leave any loopholes that are discovered, then our entire plan will be in vain.
So, from now until the Bull Lord's ascension to the palace in half a month, I hope you can restrain yourself and refrain from causing unnecessary chaos. Can you do that?"
"I can... but are you just going to brush it off like this?"
After a moment of hesitation, the Raven Masked Man asked with a hint of annoyance:
"Even if he can defeat the Nightmare King, he's no match for you! If you get the chance to ambush him, you can do something, like leaving some tricks up your sleeve or finding the weakness shared by all humans. We can easily target his family..."
"You'd better drop that idea!"
At this point, the Aquarius Director's expression turned slightly cold, and he narrowed his eyes in warning:
"Listen carefully. If you want to make a move on Lyon, I will not stop you, and I can provide you with all the support you need, except for direct action.
"If you're going to do that, I'll terminate our partnership with the Slaughter King Sect and even consider contacting the Cleanup Bureau to have them deal with you directly!"
"What the...!"
"Are you out of your mind? I'm the one who's on your side, right?"
The Raven-Masked Man was stunned by the Aquarius Director's bizarre declaration of unwavering loyalty to Lyon's family. His temples throbbed as he exclaimed, "Aquarius! Which side are you on? You..."
"I've already tried your suggestion, and not just once."
"Huh?!"
As the Raven-Masked Man stood there dumbfounded, the Aquarius Director, with a furrowed brow, explained, "I can't go into specifics, but in simple terms, I have a way to glimpse into the future. Before making a decision, I can take a look and see some of the consequences of that choice. That's how I was able to take down the Twin Fish and Archer in one go—by relying on this method."
"I also used this method to peer into the future a few times before taking action against Lyon's family. But no matter what I did, the results I got were extremely bad."
"What do you mean by 'extremely bad'?"
"Total annihilation."
"Huh?"
"I can't tell you exactly what happened because it involves the future. I can only give you a general idea."
Recalling the desolate world he had witnessed in Joshua's memories, now in ruins, and the terrifying figure sitting in the empty Netherworld, staring intently at him, the Aquarius Director's cheeks twitched, and his face turned slightly pale as he said, "In any case, I succeeded. I managed to kill him using this method, but that was just the beginning. The final outcome was something no one could accept... Alright, let's get moving!"
After stopping the Raven-Masked Man from asking further questions, the Aquarius Director checked the time and urged, "It's already late at night. The target should be fast asleep, and we have less than four hours until dawn. We must take advantage of the darkness and sneak the Nightmare King into her dream before sunrise!"
"Alright..."
The Raven-Masked Man was naturally unsatisfied with this abrupt explanation, but the raw killing intent the Aquarius Director had displayed earlier was undeniable, so he had no choice but to accept the situation for the time being.
Seeing that he was no longer objecting, the Aquarius Director flipped her wrist and produced a delicately crafted glass lantern. She gently shook it, and the starry night sky above the capital city gradually faded, replaced by dark and dense rain clouds. A steady drizzle, carrying a hint of sorrow, began to fall from the clouds.
So, is this the Nightmare King that Aquarius brought back from the Dream Realm, trapped within this lantern?
Peering through the lampshade of the Dream Wandering Lantern, the Raven-Masked Man examined the figure of "Lyon," impaled on the wick, angrily roaring at the outside world. He couldn't help but ask with a mix of belief and doubt, "Is this thing going to work?"
