Chapter 645: The Dustlight Herb
Chapter 645: The Dustlight Herb
"I wonder if it was the spiritual sense of a cultivator practicing an unorthodox technique that swept by unintentionally, or if someone has ill intentions towards me."
As the faint trace of malicious intent vanished, Lu Chen's heart stirred with caution.
However, within the late-stage Pill Formation Star Envoy's cave abode, there was no need to worry too much. He relaxed and enjoyed the delicacies of the banquet.
"Fellow Daoist Lu."
As he was savoring the unique aquatic demon beast meat from the underwater cave abode, a gentle female voice suddenly rang out beside him.
Following the voice, he saw a graceful and beautiful woman in white, smiling at him.
Standing behind her were two handsome young men, both extraordinary in bearing and demeanor.
The three of them were all at the early stage of Pill Formation, and it was clear at a glance that their backgrounds were not ordinary.
"It is indeed me. May I ask how I should address you, and what brings you to me?" Lu Chen replied with a smile.
"I am Xing Yanran, and these are my two fellow sect members."
"So it's the three fellow Daoists from Liyang Dao Zong. My apologies."
Lu Chen's expression turned serious.
On his way here, he had learned from Ye Xuan that Xing Kun had a daughter with exceptional talent, who had become a disciple of Liyang Dao Zong, the largest sect in Liyang Realm.
Having resided in the Thunderfire Star Cave for several years and becoming a guest advisor for the Sea Pavilion, he naturally understood the power of Liyang Realm's second largest force, which far surpassed that of Tianjian Zong.
And Liyang Dao Zong, firmly established as the number one sect in Liyang Realm for who knows how many thousands of years, had a depth that he, as a lone spiritual herbologist, couldn't even fathom.
"The reason I sought you out, Fellow Daoist Lu, is because I have a spiritual herb that I hold dear, but recently, it has been looking more and more unwell."
"I've heard that you are quite accomplished in the way of spiritual herbs, so I've come to seek your help."
Xing Yanran spoke softly.
Though the two fellow sect members behind her remained silent, their expressions betrayed a hint of impatience.
Seeing Lu Chen deep in thought, one of the young men with a slightly gloomy demeanor couldn't help but speak up, "Sister Xing, why bother looking for a lone cultivator here to examine your beloved spiritual herb?"
"It would be better to find a senior sect member skilled in spiritual herbs from the sect and solve the problem once and for all."
"There aren't many in the Star Pavilion who can even recognize your beloved spiritual herb, let alone solve its problem."
"Brother Zhang, you're being too harsh," Xing Yanran's smile faded.
"Fellow Daoist Lu has established quite a reputation in the Star Pavilion as a spiritual herbologist, and his expertise in spiritual herbs is likely no weaker than that of our sect members."
"Moreover, with the Dao Sect being so far away from the Black Water Star Cave, it would be too troublesome to invite another sect member skilled in spiritual herbs."
"Fellow Daoist Lu, Sister Xing's words are unintentional, please don't take offense."
"No worries, I am indeed just a lone cultivator and spiritual herbologist, a fact that is well-known."
Lu Chen waved his hand.
"Has Fellow Daoist Xing sought out Yu Lin Sanren from the Greenwood Star Cave? She has a unique talent in the way of spiritual herbs and might be able to solve your problem more easily."
"I asked Yu Lin Sanren to take a look several days ago, but unfortunately, she had no clue either."
At Lu Chen's words, Xing Yanran nodded slightly.
"Then I shall accompany Fellow Daoist Xing to take a look at the spiritual herb."
He didn't take to heart the slight disdain in the Liyang Dao Zong disciple's tone.
Seizing this opportunity to befriend Xing Yanran, daughter of late-stage Xing Kun and disciple of Liyang Dao Zong, was something he wouldn't pass up.
The courtyard was covered in a thick layer of deep black spirit soil, from which faint black bubbles emerged from time to time. The bubbles exuded a compelling spiritual aura, and it was difficult to discern the origin of the spirit soil.
Scattered across the courtyard were numerous spirit plants, all of fairly high grade; those below third-grade were extremely rare.
"Such a large piece of spirit field is only used to grow these few spirit plants. What a waste, too much of a waste!"
Lu Chen's heart ached with pain at the sight. In his own cave abode, he tried to make the most of every small piece of spirit field, yet here was a woman squandering such resources, evoking both envy and jealousy from him as a spirit herbologist.
"This is the spirit herb, brought from a distant realm. Because of its unusual and exquisite appearance, I've grown particularly fond of it."
Xing Yanran pointed to a spirit plant not far in the distance.
The spirit plant had an odd shape, its branches and leaves appearing not to have a fixed form. Instead, they resembled countless specks of light gathering together, each moving slowly according to a unique pattern.
It was evident that the spirit plant was not in the best condition. The specks of light that formed its foliage were somewhat dim and showed signs of dissipation.
Lu Chen took a few steps forward, extending his spiritual sense to carefully examine the spirit plant.
Behind him, the two Liuyang Daozong cultivators stood with their hands clasped in front of them, staring intently as if waiting to see him make a fool of himself.
"The spirit herb is called Dustlight Herb," Xing Yanran explained from the side. "Its name comes from the way its leaves resemble dust dancing in the light."
Lu Chen nodded slightly, his expression calm. He performed a small-scale earth-inviting technique in the spirit soil, causing subtle changes in the structure of the soil beneath the spirit herb, thus completing the planting process.
He focused his mind on the spirit herb, instantly gaining a detailed understanding of it.
[Dustlight Herb, Fifth-Grade Spirit Herb, originating from the Divine Light Realm. Coexisting with light as dust, it requires the absorption of a large amount of spirit light during its growth. When mature, it can be used to refine certain special fifth-grade pills or assist in cultivating corresponding techniques and divine abilities.]
[Currently in a special period of light exposure, requiring the absorption of a vast amount of intense light. Due to the lack of fulfillment of its growth conditions, the spirit herb is gradually weakening.]
[I see the light!]
"A rare spirit herb that requires a large amount of light," Lu Chen mused, feeling that his knowledge of spirit herbs had once again expanded significantly. He couldn't help but marvel at the diversity of spirit herbs in the world.
"Dustlight Herb, a rare spirit herb from the Divine Light Realm of distant realms?" Lu Chen inquired casually, as if this were common knowledge to him.
"Fellow Daoist Lu is indeed well-versed in spirit herbs. To even know the origin of the Dustlight Herb so clearly," Xing Yanran exclaimed in delight, her eyes sparkling with anticipation. She had only mentioned the name of the spirit herb, but Lu Chen had immediately discerned its detailed origin.
This simple act impressed her far more than anything Yu Lin Sanren had done before.
The two youths from Liuyang Daozong also wore changed expressions, their previous disdain for Lu Chen instantly vanishing.
In their eyes, it was impossible for Lu Chen, a mere loose cultivator, to recognize the origin of the Dustlight Herb. Yet, he had done so without hesitation, giving them an unexpected surprise.
Even within Liuyang Daozong, there were many disciples who couldn't identify the Dustlight Herb, and even those specializing in spirit herbs might fail to recognize it.
"I wonder if Fellow Daoist Lu has any suggestions to cure this Dustlight Herb?" Xing Yanran asked eagerly.
