Chapter 645: Sorry, I Didn't Mean To
Chapter 645: Sorry, I Didn’t Mean To
If Kuro had no knowledge of the world’s secrets, he might have truly forgotten who Chinjao was.
But he did know. He remembered the bug-level Devil Fruit abilities that lurked in the Grand Line better than anyone. Even after more than two decades, those memories remained etched in his mind—unshakable, haunting, always lurking like a shadow waiting to strike.
The Toy Devil Fruit was one of them.
It could transform people into toys and erase them from others’ memories.
Kuro’s recollection of Chinjao had already started to blur, but because he understood the Toy Devil Fruit’s effects, he didn’t question Chinjao’s existence.
This person definitely existed.
But the Toy Devil Fruit user must have used their ability on him.
“Forget it. Who cares who he is—let’s just capture him later.”
Kuro exhaled a puff of smoke, turning his gaze toward the aura of Donquixote Doflamingo and Law. “Let them finish first.”
Moments later, Law burst from the bushes, his figure disheveled, blood trickling from his temple as he gritted his teeth and sprinted.
Behind him, Donquixote Doflamingo followed with a malevolent grin.
“Kshhhkshhkshh! You can’t escape, Law!” Doflamingo raised his hand, clenching his five fingers downward. “Five Color Line!”
Clang!
Law spun around instantly, raising his Yokai Blade Ghost Cry to block. The strike rang out, but he couldn’t fully deflect it—several wounds sliced across his body as he stumbled backward.
“Die already!”
Doflamingo lunged forward, his hand plunging toward Law.
Boom!
Suddenly, a crushing force of gravity slammed onto Doflamingo, halting his movement mid-air and forcing him to the ground.
Frowning, he turned to Yi Xiao. “Vegapunk, what are you doing?”
“The objective is arrest, not execution,” Yi Xiao replied calmly.
“Tch. Whatever.”
Doflamingo pushed through the gravity, stepping to Law’s side and stomping on his stomach, laughing. “Law, you’ve finally fallen back into my hands!”
“Joker! Joker! My heart! He has my heart!”
Caesar Clown burst from the bushes, shouting. “He’s holding my heart—make him give it back!”
“Caesar Clown… linked to the poison gas incident and human experimentation. Rumors say he used children in his experiments, though no solid evidence exists. He’s also a subordinate of Heavenly Yaksha Mr. What a shame.” Yi Xiao sighed softly.
“Oh?”
Kuro tilted his head. “Now that you mention it, I remember something about that. When I cleansed the traitor at G-5, the traitor mentioned it too.”
“Hey, you’re talking about this in front of me?!”
Doflamingo’s face darkened. “Kuro, I haven’t forgotten what you did to Vergo!”
Vergo was my subordinate!
“Cleansing traitors isn’t wrong. Besides, he’s escaping now,” Kuro pointed out.
“Room!”
Law seized the moment, swapping places with a nearby rock and vanishing to the other side, preparing to flee.
“Law!” Doflamingo snarled, about to chase—when a wisp of cold light flashed.
Hiss!
Caesar Clown’s shoulder to waist was sliced open. The slash aimed at Law behind him, striking his back and erupting into a mist of blood.
Law grunted in pain, staggering but not falling.
“Room!”
Using his ability, he teleported away, sprinting toward the iron bridge.
“Ah… sorry.”
Kuro sheathed his blade, shrugging at Caesar Clown. “I didn’t mean to.”
“No… problem.”
Caesar mumbled blankly before collapsing, lifeless.
“Kuro!!”
Boom!!
A roar erupted, followed by a suffocating wave of Conqueror’s Haki.
Doflamingo’s face twisted, blue veins bulging. “What did you do?!”
“As you can see, I was helping. You looked like you were struggling, so I thought I’d cut in. But I missed—didn’t know someone would block the strike.” Kuro exhaled smoke. “Just a subordinate. Dead is dead, right?”
“That was Caesar Clown! He was my important, important—”
Doflamingo inhaled sharply, his killing intent surging. “How will you answer for this?!”
Thinking of Kaido, he couldn’t suppress a shiver. That man was a true monster.
“Answer?”
Kuro spat out his cigar, vanishing in a flash. He reappeared before Doflamingo, nearly nose-to-nose, his voice icy.
“I haven’t even dealt with you for Vergo yet. Or Smoker. What you did to Smoker at Vegapunk Hazard was unforgivable. While the Seven Warlords and Navy both serve the World Government, I’ve never heard that Warlords have the right to attack Navy officers.”
Smoker had vented about it—how Doflamingo nearly killed him at Vegapunk Hazard.
If Kuzan hadn’t intervened, Smoker wouldn’t have survived.
“The keys you hold are none of my business. But Smoker is my friend. When you attacked him, didn’t you consider sparing me some face?” Kuro bared his teeth, menace radiating.
“You—”
Doflamingo took a step back, finally realizing: This man doesn’t play by the rules!
And his threat level rivaled Kaido’s!
This man wasn’t like Vegapunk.
Last time, if he hadn’t quickly offered him the pointer to Totto Land, Dressrosa would’ve been erased.
This guy was old-school Navy, not some new recruit like Vegapunk. He had his own brutal methods for dealing with pirates.
“Hmph!”
Doflamingo scoffed, ignoring Kuro and chasing after Law. But as he moved, a thought struck him, and his grin turned sinister. “Kshhhkshhkshh… You still owe me a favor, remember?”
“Only valid when you were a Seven Warlord,” Kuro replied.
“I am a Seven Warlord now, Kuro. Or should I say… Golden Lion? Since you know that, guarding the Factory should be easy for you.”
Doflamingo proposed, “Guard it this time, and we’ll call our debt even.”
“Still thinking about the Factory?”
Kuro narrowed his eyes, considering. “Fine. But… what makes you think you’ll win? Underestimating others leads to failure.”
“Kshhhkshhkshh! I’m not as arrogant as that crocodile. I know better!”
Doflamingo soared into the air, grinning toward the iron bridge. “That Luffy can’t be underestimated. He’s already beaten Crocodile and Gecko Moria. If I don’t take him seriously, I might lose. But… lose? Kshhhkshhkshh! Hahahahaha!”
He rocketed forward, his voice echoing.
“Let me experience just how charming this Luffy is!”
“Is this really okay?”
Yi Xiao watched Doflamingo vanish, asking, “I don’t quite understand. Aren’t the Seven Warlords supposed to align with the Navy?”
“Hah? Brother, don’t joke. You’re like Smoker, clinging to the World Government’s rules for the Warlords.”
Kuro lit a new cigar. “The Seven Warlords are just trash. Their title gives them enough convenience. The Navy doesn’t need to grant more. The World Government? Just appease them. The old men only care about political balance. Other matters? They don’t care.”
“So this is the seasoned Navy’s approach? I see. Indeed, bringing you along was the right choice.” Yi Xiao nodded, smiling.
Sengoku, Garp, Haku, Akainu, Lucius Kro, even Kuzan—all treated the Seven Warlords as trash.
Kuro, having spent time with Gramps, naturally understood how to deal with pirates who hid behind the rules.
Treat them as trash. If you treat them as humans, they’ll step all over you.
