Chapter 645: Chaos and Calamity
Chapter 645: Chaos and Calamity
Night, Capital City, Canal
"Click."
With a crisp sound of a mechanism resetting, the young man resting on a bench outside the Inner Canal dock opened his eyes and gazed intently at the large compass he held in his arms.
Unlike other compasses used for navigation, this peculiar indigo compass had six movable rings. Including the magnetic needle suspended by a silk thread under the central circular glass cover, it was divided into seven layers from the inside out.
Following the click of the mechanism resetting, all six rings of the indigo compass were now locked in place, and the central magnetic needle, which had previously been immobile, began to deflect as the outer six rings locked, finally pointing towards the direction of the palace.
All six "elements" have been achieved...
After observing the condition of the indigo compass and following the direction of the magnetic needle, the young man in the water-blue robe couldn't help but smile with satisfaction as he gazed at the palace under the night sky.
Timing, conditions, people;
Goal, ability, me.
To make the central needle of the [Wish Wheel] point towards the target, one needs to lock three inner and three outer rings, totaling six rings.
He had been working towards this for nearly a century, finally waiting for the opportunity for the Cleanup Bureau to be weakened, meeting the necessary conditions to achieve his goal, and arranging the indispensable "key figure," thus locking the three outer rings of the [Wish Wheel].
As for the three inner rings, whether it was the goal he was willing to sacrifice everything for, the ability needed to achieve that goal, or his determination to burn everything to reach the finish line, he had never lacked them.
With the six elements required to activate the [Wish Wheel] now all gathered, it meant that what he wanted to do would certainly succeed, and no one could stop him!
"Swish!"
As if in response to his agitated emotions, a sudden wave surged in the canal in front of the young man, causing the boats in the river to rock violently despite the lack of wind.
Since the Inner Canal of the Capital City was usually calm and had rarely experienced any storms, coupled with the fact that it was nighttime, the sailors were not alert enough. The sudden rocking of the boats immediately caused waves of panic.
Amidst the cacophony of panic, strange and chaotic auras began to gather as if from nowhere, eventually coalescing under the night sky and quietly landing on the bench beside the Aquarius Director.
"Indeed, this world is the best!"
Gazing at the sailors struggling to stabilize their boats in the canal, the man in the black robe with a raven mask couldn't help but close his eyes in bliss, deeply inhaling the chaotic and intense air before thanking the Aquarius Director:
"Thank you so much. If not for your prowess, I wouldn't know how much longer I would have to wait to physically manifest in this world again."
"You're too kind."
Glancing at the [Condition] ring that had lit up on the wheel, the Aquarius Director couldn't help but smile and replied warmly:
"I've studied the Watchtower Palace for decades, though I've never been able to get close enough to observe it in detail. However, I have gained some insights, and temporarily creating a few small openings isn't too difficult."
"Oh, you're being modest again."
Despite his stern appearance, the raven-masked man seemed to have a surprisingly familiar personality. He clapped his hands and laughed, saying:
"You've only been studying the Watchtower Palace for a few decades, while I've been blocked by it for over a thousand years. Over those thousand years, I couldn't even find a seam, let alone an opening. Every time I tried to enter, I had to shed a layer of skin. We are far inferior to you!"
"Your praise is too kind. I merely had the advantage of my position, allowing me to see the internal records of the Cleanup Bureau and master the creation secret arts used to build the Watchtower Palace. Otherwise, I would be just as helpless as you."
"After some insincere business flattery with the Raven Masked Man, the Aquarius Director released his hold on the Wish Wheel, sending the peculiar wheel back into the void. He then spoke up, "Now, please proceed as agreed."
"Sure thing!" The Raven Masked Man responded without hesitation and began walking towards the direction of the Palace. However, halfway there, he seemed to remember something. He suddenly turned back with a mischievous smile, and with a flick of his hand, a coarse, ear-piercing sound of steel breaking emanated from the structure of the wharf.
For some unknown reason, the once sturdy-looking wharf appeared to have aged decades in an instant, becoming dilapidated and distorted. The structures above seemed ready to collapse at any moment.
On the side of the wharf about to topple, a group of sailors desperately turning a winch looked on in horror as a massive shadow loomed over them, seemingly about to crush them.
"Maybe you shouldn't do that?" a gentle voice of restraint accompanied the scene. A small golden knife glided through the air, and the Raven Masked Man's right hand, which was emitting a strange black aura, suddenly retreated back to its original position.
At the same time, the swaying steel frame of the wharf, though half-broken due to its own weight, managed to halt just before a complete collapse, preventing a real disaster.
"Aquarius?" The Raven Masked Man's smile of pleasure faded as he looked at the spinning pocket watch engraving on his hand, which had just been slashed. He asked with a slightly darkening expression, "What's the meaning of this?"
"Nothing much," Aquarius explained with a gentle tone, seemingly unaffected by the Raven Masked Man's hostility. "I just don't want any unnecessary complications. After all, this is the territory of the Virgin Bureau. Such a commotion might attract..."
"What are you afraid of?" The Raven Masked Man clicked his tongue at Aquarius's words and then tilted his head slightly. "My Calamity ability leaves no traces. Even if the Cleaners come to inspect later, they'll only conclude that this was a disaster caused by the wharf's long-term disrepair.
Moreover, the Blood-Red Lady is gone, and the remaining members of the Virgin Bureau haven't crossed the human-god divide. They're not worth worrying about. If the timing was right, I could take them all out by myself."
"Mhm." Aquarius nodded and smiled, "I don't deny that. With your control over both Chaos and Calamity abilities, you're indeed one of the stronger True Deities. You certainly have the ability to deal with the Virgin Bureau, but have you forgotten about one person?"
