Chapter 643: Lanchi and Hubert's Casual Chat
Chapter 643: Lanchi and Hubert's Casual Chat
After Hubert and Florence closed the door to the student council room, they walked down the stairs past the area of Professor Bolao's research workshop on the second floor, leaving the faint hum of machinery behind. Soon, they reached the first floor and exited the old liberal arts building of the Magic Engineering Institute, stepping into the student service center.
"See you later, Lanchi and Hubert!" Florence waved at them from the lawn in the garden.
"See you," Lanchi and Hubert replied in unison, bidding farewell to the student council president and her brother as they stood side by side amidst the blooming flowers.
The old liberal arts building, located at the entrance of the Magic Engineering Institute, was nestled within a spacious garden. The morning mist and sunshine bathed the plants, filling the air with a delicate fragrance. The sounds of summer surrounded them—the cheerful chirping of canaries, the gentle buzzing of bees, and the murmur of a nearby stream.
Soon, the pair began walking in the direction from which they had come that morning.
"Did you get Ranfu?" Hubert asked Lanchi.
"Yeah, she's quite laid-back. If someone tells her to rest, she'll take a break, but if left to her own devices, she can stay immersed in what she enjoys doing," Lanchi replied, holding up the magical card with its hint of golden petals for Hubert to see.
"Did I keep you and the president waiting earlier? I think I may have chatted with Florence for too long," Hubert said, glancing up at the distant clock tower and realizing it was already past ten o'clock.
"No, I enjoyed chatting with the president downstairs. The garden's scenery and the comfortable sunlight made for a pleasant and relaxing time," Lanchi shook his head with a smile.
"By the way, I heard that Miss Almis, the Ice and Snow Witch, has also come to Icari. Have you met her yet?" he asked.
"Not yet. The teacher has been busy helping Loren with official business at the church. I didn't find her there the last time I visited. I'll go take a look next time," Hubert replied. The first thing she had done after returning from the Shadow World was to eagerly look for her teacher, but unfortunately, she hadn't been able to find her.
Hubert understood that her teacher had important work to attend to, so she hadn't gone to the temple to disturb her these past two days.
"Once the teacher is done with her busy schedule, she'll probably come to the school to look for me, and she'll likely continue to instruct me. I really miss her," Hubert said, her heart fluttering at the thought.
Just thinking about Teacher Almis made her happy.
She never expected that after returning to the Southern Continent for just over two months, she would have the hope of seeing her teacher again.
Lanchi nodded. Once the Ice and Snow Witch, Almis, found Hubert, she would have another bodyguard. Although the Ice and Snow Witch was defense-oriented, she was still recognized as a quasi-bishop-level combatant, and her strength far surpassed that of any of the three great demons in the store.
"Are you worrying about me again?" Hubert asked softly as she moved closer.
"Yes, but with all the efforts we've made and the journey so far, I feel relieved. At least for the next six months, Icari is safe, and we don't need to worry too much. We just need to keep moving forward," Lanchi replied, his gaze fixed on her as he answered sincerely.
Today, Icari was impregnable. Unless a massive war broke out on the Southern Continent, with armies marching towards the royal capital, or a ninth-rank expert made a desperate move, the kingdom was safe.
In this era, where all ninth-rank experts were drawn into the ninth-rank Shadow World, if one wanted to become a force strong enough to upset the balance, they would either have to be a newly emerged ninth-rank expert or an ancient being like the third progenitor of the vampire race, Lachael, who had broken free from an eternal seal.
Currently, the two individuals closest to attaining the ninth rank were the Extinction Bishop of the Northern Continent, from whom the term "super-bishop-level strength" originated, and the chief of the Twelve War Gods of the Kreese Empire on the Southern Continent, the War God Haxintos, who had been bestowed the title of the Diamond Seat. Both of them might be on par with the Extinction Bishop, nearing the ninth rank.
In addition, Lanchi was aware that the Bishop of Dominance now also had hope. After defeating Askassan and breaking the seal, she should have taken another step closer to the ninth-rank.
Although Loren was strong, she was still quite far from attaining the ninth-rank.
The summer sun shone on the verdant campus of Icaritte Academy, and a warm breeze, carrying a hint of heat, blew through.
Usually, Icaritte only experienced a few hot days in August.
Even so, the summer atmosphere in the city-state of Icaritte remained humid and bright.
As the two chatted, they unknowingly arrived at the eastern district street outside the Icaritte Academy.
Walking about a kilometer to the east, they spotted the Cat Boss' restaurant, a wooden building.
Even though it wasn't lunchtime yet, the restaurant had already started its preparations, and light smoke curled upwards from the roof, carrying the aroma of the lunch dishes being prepared.
Lanchi and Hubert pushed open the door and entered the shop. The wind chimes hanging on the door made a pleasant sound as the door opened and closed.
Today was Anatans' day off again, and Pranai and Sinora were working. From the counter, they could see Sinora standing gracefully behind it.
"Sinora, is Tata at home?"
Hubert asked Sinora with a smile, her hands resting on the counter.
"Yes, she just visited the Wilford home this morning and has returned."
Sinora replied with a smile identical to Hubert's.
The two of them would either tilt their heads to the left or right in unison.
"This morning, Miss Fransin, the maid of your house, came to the store to invite Tata to your home for her birthday, and she invited us as well."
She added, addressing Lanchi.
"Do you think your dad noticed anything unusual about you guys?"
Lanchi asked in a low voice.
After all, in the near future, he would be asking Pranai and the others to look after the Wilford family, and now, with Pranai and the others visiting the Wilfords as Tata's friends, they would be making an early acquaintance with the family.
"No, my father is a good man. He said, 'Thank you so much for being by Lanchi's side. Please come to our home often in the future. Seeing the wonderful young people Lanchi has made friends with puts my heart at ease.'"
Sinora repeated Noel's exact words.
And Noel was especially fond of the little black cat these days; he couldn't get enough of Cat Boss and had nothing but praise for him.
"Then we'll leave the Wilford family in your care for the time being."
Lanchi sincerely thanked Sinora.
"Don't worry about it, it's a small matter."
Sinora replied with a slight bow.
"..."
Hubert glanced at Lanchi without saying a word.
She was a little worried that one day, when Lanchi's father learned the truth and discovered that his home had become a lair for the great demons, he might faint from shock.
"Then I'll help Sinora downstairs for a bit. You call Tata down later, and we'll eat together."
Hubert also went behind the counter and stood shoulder to shoulder with Sinora. Then, looking at Lanchi, she said, "These days, you and Talia will be working together to make the 'Kaliyera's Shadow Weave Record' into cards. There will be a lot of training involved, and the intensity will be higher than the previous card-making classes."
"No problem."
Lanchi walked towards the staircase, smiling and agreeing casually.
