Chapter 641: Interception
Chapter 641: Interception
Upon receiving the order, one of the armored vehicles with a plow-like ram at its front accelerated, overtaking the others to take the lead. It aimed directly at the blocking vehicles ahead and rammed into them.
Under the impact of this armored vehicle, the opposing car was instantly tossed aside like a lightweight toy, rolling to the side of the road.
The remaining vehicles quickly followed, driving through the breach.
From behind, Ji Xinmin witnessed this scene from a distance. He muttered a few curses, then used a Dimensional Token to communicate with the other two. He pushed open the car door and jumped out of the fast-moving vehicle.
As soon as his feet touched the ground, his legs accelerated, and within a few strides, he surpassed the moving vehicles. His body seemed to leave a residual image as he rushed towards the front of the convoy.
Further ahead, Ji Xinmin's two companions appeared and positioned themselves in front of the convoy.
This was part of their plan; if the vehicles couldn't stop them, they would take matters into their own hands.
Both companions wore sunglasses, and their hands slightly parted, holding exquisite metal short staffs. As Third Limit Fighters, intercepting a moving vehicle was not a difficult task if they had the right tools and weapons.
Ji Xinmin leaped over the convoy, landing in front of his two companions with a thud. He turned to face the convoy.
Chen Chuan witnessed the situation ahead and knew that the convoy's security team alone couldn't handle these three. Even if they rammed into them, it might result in casualties. So, he spoke up, "Stop the vehicles."
The convoy came to a halt about twenty meters away from the three.
A staff member got out first, opened the door, and Chen Chuan stepped out. He signaled everyone to wait while he approached the three alone.
He looked at Ji Xinmin and said calmly, "Mr. Ji, you should know that your actions are dangerous and may lead to unpredictable consequences. I hope you have a reasonable explanation."
Ji Xinmin and his companions suddenly felt a sense of pressure they hadn't experienced before in Yangzhi City. He disliked this feeling and forced himself to resist the urge to step back. He used the gesture of straightening his wrinkled clothes to hide his discomfort.
"Manager Chen, we mean no offense," Ji Xinmin said. "We just want to have a word with you, but you refuse to accept our messages. This time, we had to resort to this method to get your attention. The person who sent us here is a significant figure, Manager Chen. I think you should hear him out."
Chen Chuan's voice remained calm. "I don't care what you're trying to do, nor do I want to know who that important person is. I'm on vacation, and if it's official business, you should discuss it with the Handling Bureau. If it's personal, I'm sorry, but I have nothing to talk about with you."
Ji Xinmin's face turned cold. "Don't think that joining the Pureline Sect will protect you from consequences. I can tell you, the person who sent me here has enough power to determine your fate. Some people are not to be offended."
Chen Chuan ignored them and turned to walk back. He had already warned that if these three didn't comply, he would order the security team to shoot.
Ji Xinmin raised his hand, and one of his companions produced an old-style radio, turning on the button.
A burst of static came from the radio, and a voice spoke directly into Ji Xinmin's mind, "Come to us."
Chen Chuan stopped in his tracks.
Ji Xinmin smiled. The important person who sent them had also given them a tape, which they were to play upon meeting Chen Chuan.
Chen Chuan turned around and looked at the tape recorder, where the voice was repeatedly saying the same phrase. He glanced at his second self, where the signs of dematerialization were floating like ripples in a pond, and the information domain around him seemed to be in disarray. He then looked up at Ji Xinmin and the others.
Ji Xinmin and his team suddenly sensed something amiss. He signaled to turn up the volume of the tape recorder.
However, it was to no avail. Despite the psychic energy relentlessly assaulting Chen Chuan, his eyes only grew calmer.
Ji Xinmin suddenly felt a strong sense of threat. Before he could react, a palm appeared before him, magnifying in size.
Startled, he tried to raise his hand to block the attack, but his body couldn't keep up with his mind's reaction. Before he could make the move, the palm had already pressed against his face, and he was knocked backward, flying through the air.
The other two, upon seeing Chen Chuan's action, immediately rushed towards him. One of them smashed a short staff towards his right shoulder, while the other, crouching low, struck at his knee from below.
Their movements were swift and well-coordinated. The attacks, coming simultaneously, landed on Chen Chuan's body, but he didn't budge an inch. Instead, they felt like they had struck a sturdy, thick tire, and their metal staffs were repelled by a counterforce, causing their arms to go numb.
Chen Chuan reached out, grabbed one of them by the wrist, and swung him towards the other side. The other assailant was backing away, but Chen Chuan's move was too fast. Before he could react, his companion's body slammed into him.
The dull sound of bodies colliding echoed as the two assailants seemed to pause mid-air before falling intertwined. Most of the bones in their bodies had shattered from the impact.
At that moment, Ji Xinmin fell to the ground with a thud. His eyes turned white, as if he had lost consciousness during the attack.
The tape recorder rolled away from his hand, but the voice had disappeared before the attack, leaving only the sound of the tape spinning.
Chen Chuan had heard it clearly—the phrase was repeated seven times. As the domain stabilized, he touched his Dimensional Token and contacted the Handling Bureau: "An Dun, I was just attacked. I've taken down the assailants. Please file a report."
An Dun's voice came through: "We detected domain information disruption half a minute ago. It's determined that there was information interference. Based on the situation, it's confirmed that you were attacked. Manager Chen, the report has been filed."
Chen Chuan lowered his hand.
Due to the domain interference, he couldn't clearly explain what had just happened. However, the assailants' series of actions, including intercepting him and using domain interference, made the attack on him highly logical. Moreover, they had indeed carried it out, albeit through a less noticeable spiritual assault.
He walked over to the tape recorder, picked it up, and considered it evidence. While it might not be useful at the Handling Bureau, he believed the Pureline Sect could uncover something from it.
He turned and walked back to the convoy, instructing Yu Xiao: "Captain Yu, take these three with you."
"Yes, sir!" Yu Xiao and the security team members responded enthusiastically.
They had always known this manager was formidable, but they had never witnessed his abilities until now. Witnessing him effortlessly dispatch three extraordinary Third Limit Fighters filled them with excitement and awe.
The team members handcuffed the assailants with special locks and dragged them to the vehicle. The convoy then set off again.
Once back in the car, Chen Chuan continued his conversation with Wu Han: "I had a bit of a delay earlier. Brother Wu, are my classmates and Brother Wei all settled in?"
Wu Han hadn't noticed anything unusual. He replied, "Don't worry, I've taken care of everything. Brother Lao Qi is also helping out."
Chen Chuan knew that Lao Qi had made all the arrangements.
Wu Han added, "I'll send you their addresses..." As he spoke, he sent a string of addresses and then said, "Oh, by the way, Brother, do you know who I met a few days ago?"
Chen Chuan smiled and said, "Brother Wu, are you talking about our old classmates?"
"Hey, Brother, you guessed it right! Do you remember Geng Zhen, Tai Dongwei, and Deng Fu?"
Chen Chuan nodded and said, "I remember."
These three had once joined the Mutual Aid Society, but they hadn't committed any evil deeds themselves. However, due to their association with the society, they were not well-regarded. Later, they seemed to have left Yangzhi City, and no one knew where they had gone.
Wu Han said, "They came to Central City earlier than me, around a few months after you arrived, Brother. I chatted with them. They're now working for a client with substantial energy, but Brother Lao Qi told me this client has a bad reputation in the industry."
Chen Chuan thought for a moment. "Brother Wu, do you have their contact information?"
"Yes, I do."
"Send it to me later."
