Chapter 640: Lanchi Has Never Been a Comedian
Chapter 640: Lanchi Has Never Been a Comedian
The next day.
A gentle breeze blew beneath the boundless clear blue sky of Ikelite.
The sun shone brightly, and the clouds were pristine white, heralding the delightful flavors of midsummer.
The wooded path from the Sage's Institute to the Magecraft Institute was especially serene this weekend.
Being Sunday, there were fewer students strolling through the campus compared to weekdays.
Except for Lanchi and Shubellyan.
They often took this path together to the old liberal arts building of the Magecraft Institute's student council.
"Lanchi, don't you dare take that out!"
Shubellyan whispered a cautious warning.
She was dressed in a pure white summer dress as usual, but due to the mugginess, beads of sweat had formed on her neck.
"Got it, I hid it in the dorm, no way she'll find it."
Lanchi nodded confidently in response.
Along the path, the gardens of the Alchemy Institute were brimming with life, birds hopping from branch to branch, chirping from time to time as if welcoming the two frequent passersby.
Here's what happened.
Earlier that morning, as Shubellyan was heading downstairs for breakfast, she spotted Lanchi standing at the entrance of Cat Boss Restaurant, chatting with Plana while holding a box marked with a flammable sign.
Plana had almost rubbed the glass clean through.
Shubellyan immediately guessed what was inside and quickly ushered Tata back upstairs before rushing downstairs to stop Lanchi, saving his life.
"Really, there are people who would buy eight hundred candles to celebrate a girl's birthday?"
Shubellyan still looked puzzled as she gazed at Lanchi.
"But, eight hundred lit candles would look super cool."
Lanchi couldn't think of a response.
Birthday candles were a matter of fact, how could he possibly skimp on the number?
"...Lanchi, while it would indeed look cool, Tata's speed in taking action might be faster than her speed of thought. Before you even light the candles, she might have already leaped onto your back and given you a chiropractic adjustment. Sometimes, I might not be able to save you in time."
Shubellyan sighed and shook her head, simultaneously gesturing with her hand to indicate the neck-cracking motion of a chiropractor.
"!"
Lanchi's spine suddenly felt chilly, and he quickly spoke up,
"No, no, no, no, I won't dare do it again."
Lanchi had put the large box of premium candles, purchased from the Church of the Goddess of Fate, back into the storage room of his dormitory workshop.
He had enough candles there to last him several decades' worth of birthdays; it would be too wasteful to throw them away.
"Next week, when you and Tata go to the Kingdom of Bosen, don't prank her too harshly, or no one will be able to save you even if you scream yourself hoarse."
Shubellyan was still a bit worried and continued to admonish him.
"You can rest assured on that, I've never been a funny comedian."
Lanchi assured confidently.
"..."
Shubellyan thought about it and felt that it was actually quite impressive that Lanchi had managed to survive until now.
Since that was the case, she decided to trust him.
Their steps were relaxed and leisurely, and when they passed by a bustling beverage shop, they paused for a moment to buy a couple of drinks.
This was a cold-pressed juice bar they often visited, conveniently located along their route to the student council.
They had already sampled all thirty-plus varieties of pure fruit juices, blends, and vegetable juices.
However, in the midst of this sultry summer, the icy-cold sweetness never failed to captivate their palates, making it impossible for them to tire of it. If they could live their lives in Ikelite without worries or pressure, it would indeed be a blissful existence.
Question Tata, understand Tata, become Tata.
These were the three indispensable steps to living in Ikelite.
"By the way, have you given Tata your gift yet?"
Lanchi asked, holding his juice cup and looking at Shubellyan beside him.
He remembered that Shubellyan had decided on Tata's gift a long time ago.
As the two continued their walk towards the old liberal arts building, the quiet path through the woods glittered like a vibrant emerald, with pillars of light crisscrossing under the tree canopy, painting a colorful and artistic pattern on the green stone pavement.
"Mhm."
Shuberryan nodded, taking small sips of her juice.
In Talia's opinion, there was no need to make a big deal out of birthdays, or perhaps they had just gotten used to celebrating them as demons.
If they made a fuss over every birthday, it would become more of a burden than a joy.
"But that equipment isn't very useful for Tata, even though she can use it."
She added.
Earlier that morning, Talia had received Shubellyan's gift, and although she had accepted it with much appreciation, upon trying it out, she found it not as useful as she had imagined.
This epic-level equipment, named [Demon Fusion], could be used to fuse with another demon of the same gender, with the initiator acting as the dominant entity. By wearing one earring each, they could merge, gaining access to each other's magic, but with a thirty-day cooldown.
Additionally, by giving the earring to another without wearing it themselves, they could test their compatibility or fusion level before initiating the merge.
The compatibility was influenced by the magic and bloodline similarities between the two demons.
The resulting attributes after fusion would be the sum of both individuals' attributes, multiplied by the fusion level.
"If she fuses with me, due to our low bloodline compatibility, she would drop to below the seventh tier."
Shubellyan shook her head.
As a half-demon, her fusion level with Talia was only around ten percent. If they used [Demon Fusion], it would be like taking Talia's original eighth-tier attributes, adding Shubellyan's negligible sixth-tier attributes, and then multiplying it by ten percent, resulting in a significant drop in Talia's overall power level.
Additionally, she had also asked Antanas and Sinora to test their compatibility with Talia.
Talia and Sinora had a mediocre compatibility of around fifty percent. Their fusion would maintain an eighth-tier power level, but it would be more inclined towards magic and strength, with Sinora's magic-breaking and cutting abilities enhancing Talia's offensive capabilities.
The highest compatibility was with Antanas, reaching almost seventy percent. If they fused, their attributes would even see a boost, especially in the areas of spirit and stamina. However, due to Antanas' defensive-oriented talents and magic, the fused entity would be more inclined towards defense, which was not Talia's usual style.
"In other words, Talia now has three forms: attack form, defense form, and... escape form?"
Lanchi finished listening to Shubellyan's explanation and analyzed it with his chin propped up.
"Yeah... Wait, what do you mean by escape form?"
Shubellyan had just nodded when she suddenly realized there was a strange form among the options.
"Haha."
Lanchi lowered his head to drink his juice and quickened his pace slightly.
"Lanchi, wait up! Explain what you mean by an escape form!"
Shubellyan chased after him, pouting and looking slightly aggrieved.
"Your innate magic is the most useful, truly peerless among the same tier."
Lanchi finally burst out laughing and explained.
During their time in the Northern Continent, Shubellyan had spent nearly two months at the Temple of the Goddess of Fate in the Kingdom of Eiseth Telen. After undergoing special training from the Ice Snow Witch, a fifth-tier Shubellyan could conceal her presence from even an eighth-tier opponent. As long as Shubellyan wanted to hide, even Talia would be unable to sense her approach.
Later, the Fallen Knight, Kaliyela, had provided Shubellyan with an additional set of enhanced training regimens.
By the time Shubellyan reached the eighth tier, no one would be able to pose a threat to her.
"Lanchi, you're so mean! You never used to tease me like this before!"
Shubellyan pouted, pretending to be angry, but her expression was too cute to be intimidating.
The two continued on their way, laughing and chatting, until they reached the old liberal arts building.
