Chapter 640: Connection
Chapter 640: Connection
Aboard the ocean liner, Chen Chuan did not waste this last stretch of time. Besides enjoying some onboard entertainment and occasional relaxation, he spent the rest of his time contemplating Zhou Yuan's techniques.
Currently, his primary combat style was Free Fist, and the Hard-Soft Energy he had honed earlier was now sufficient. As for Grappling and Throwing Energy, he could focus on them later, using them as supplementary techniques for now.
These skills could be developed gradually through combat with various opponents, constant enlightenment, and enhanced understanding, leading to their refinement.
The previous opponent, Ya Jianhong, was actually a good match. This person's abilities were not exceptionally high, but they were dominated by the spiritual entity attached to their back. Their display of force was commendable, and due to physical limitations, they couldn't unleash greater power. Thus, they served as an excellent sparring partner.
Unfortunately, there was only one such person.
Upon returning, he could practice with Hong Fu, but she only mastered the techniques from the Wu Yi Academy. What he needed now was exposure to diverse combat styles and more distinctive techniques to expand his force's variations and enrich his fighting methods.
With the foundation of Zhou Yuan's techniques, he had infinite potential. In his imagination, different occasions called for different applications of force.
But this could only be achieved step by step. On the bright side, the situation wasn't terrible; he could witness his continuous progress and maintain a fresh sense of ambition.
It was night, and under the starry sky, the liner sailed on the vast ocean. Faintly, he could hear soothing songs and melodies from the deck, accompanied by the sound of the sea.
Standing by the ship's railing, he gazed at the starry sky above. Up to this point, the Purity Substance still appeared from time to time, indicating that the World Ring's gap remained unsealed.
Chen Chuan had no intention of letting these substances go to waste. Although the Pureline Sect had promised an adequate supply, these substances undoubtedly held great benefits for him. The more he acquired, the more time he could buy.
After spending some time on the observation deck, he headed back, preparing to meditate for the entire night.
But as he entered the cabin, he suddenly felt something amiss. He heard a thumping sound in his heart, as if there was another heartbeat in the room.
He glanced around; Morning Cry was asleep, and there was no movement. So, he shifted his gaze to the long, rectangular object placed aside.
Inside was what appeared to be a spinal bone.
He approached it, placing his hand on it, and the thumping sound vanished instantly, as if it had been a mere illusion. His mind turned, and he attempted to sense it with his spirit.
In an instant, he felt as if he had sunk into murky seawater, exceptionally viscous. And nearby, there seemed to be a colossal being.
This entity seemed to have been slumbering but was slowly awakening, sensing something.
His eyes flickered, and he decided not to continue. He was unsure if proceeding would affect the liner's passengers, so he withdrew his spirit, and the sensation vanished, returning everything to normal.
He glanced at his second self, where faint phantom shadows appeared, but they quickly dissipated as he withdrew.
Chen Chuan walked to the private balcony, reaching for the doorknob. As his gaze fell, he noticed several dead flying insects on the ground, apparently a recent occurrence. After observing for a moment, he slowly closed the door and returned to the training room to meditate.
On August 28th, after eight consecutive days of sailing, the liner returned to Jinbei Province.
This time, they docked at the Central City's Ji Yang District harbor instead of the Far-Off Port.
From his private balcony, Chen Chuan gazed at the towering skyscrapers of the Central City. Even without the Dimensional Token, his acquired psychic energy allowed him to sense the field spirit emanating from within.
However, the information was too chaotic to decipher, creating a noisy disturbance.
The hole in the Heavenly Center still eluded his sight, but his spirit sensed it. It might be a leak from the damaged World Ring, as if something was trying to crawl out, causing his second self to exhibit faint signs of virtualization.
This was due to his heightened spiritual state, attracting contamination. Fortunately, the vermouth's protection shielded him from significant harm.
Still, prolonged exposure caused discomfort, similar to a regular person staring directly at the sun, tolerable for a while but not indefinitely.
Constantly sensing the field spirit could be considered a form of spiritual training, but the efficiency was extremely low, far less effective than conventional spiritual cultivation methods. Only those with naturally high spirits and lacking cultivation resources might resort to this, risking contamination.
After a while, Chen Chuan withdrew his spirit and put on his Investigation Chief's Dimensional Token.
Instantly, he was connected.
An Dun's voice echoed in his ear:
"Hello, Investigation Chief Chen. An Dun here. The port is functioning smoothly, and land transportation is clear. Your dedicated vehicle and security team await you at the port.
Chen Chuan took a sip from his cup of hot drink and said, "Thank you, An Dun."
"You're welcome, it's my pleasure to serve you," An Dun replied.
Chen Chuan patted Morning Cry, who was standing beside him, and Morning Cry immediately took off, flying out from the cruise ship and into the sky. Chen Chuan returned to his room, picked up his already packed luggage, and walked out.
Since he had booked a first-class cabin, he was among the first to disembark. As he stepped off the gangway, An Dun's voice sounded again.
"There's an unknown communication channel attempting to contact you. The inspection results show that the sender is from the Gray Shell Agency."
"The Gray Shell Agency?" Chen Chuan asked.
Hearing his question, An Dun immediately displayed information about the agency on Chen Chuan's Dimensional Token.
Chen Chuan read through the agency's introduction. Their scope of work was quite broad, mostly related to political activities, including regulatory protection, lobbying, crisis management, secret negotiations, and transnational business activities, among other things.
The agency's functions were similar to those of high-end commission companies, but with a more targeted approach. Their services primarily catered to disciples of high-ranking officials, company executives, or even the managers themselves.
After reading the information, Chen Chuan said, "Check the identity of the sender."
Almost instantly, An Dun responded, "Sender identity verification: Ji Xinmin, Gray Shell Agency officer, Third Limit Fighter, male, 35 years old... Remaining information is blocked by agreement, temporarily inaccessible. Do you want to apply for special permissions from the bureau?"
"No need," Chen Chuan replied.
Upon seeing the name Ji Xinmin, Chen Chuan knew who the sender was. This Gray Shell Agency was likely an operational organization under the Polished Faction.
"Sir Chen, do you want to connect the communication?" An Dun asked.
"No need," Chen Chuan answered.
Outside the port, Ji Xinmin realized that the communication signal he was attempting to establish had been cut off, indicating that the other party had rejected his contact attempt.
He couldn't help but frown.
Since their initial meeting in Yangzhi, they hadn't exchanged contact information through the Dimensional Token.
Moreover, they hadn't given it much thought. If Chen Chuan didn't agree, they could always resort to various means after returning. Once this person realized the reality of the situation, they were confident he would come looking for them.
However, upon their return, they received news that Chen Chuan had joined the Pureline Sect. As a result, they had no choice but to abandon their subsequent plans.
They had thought the matter was settled, but now a high-ranking official above wanted them to make contact with Chen Chuan. Therefore, they had no choice but to take the initiative and communicate with him.
Ji Xinmin thought for a moment and tapped his Dimensional Token a few times, marking a specific route on it. He then instructed his two companions, "This person is definitely heading back to Wuding District. He'll surely pass through this route. Let's wait for him there... "
After further consideration, he gave additional instructions to his two companions, "When we do this..."
The two companions understood and quickly rushed to their vehicles, driving off at high speed.
Meanwhile, Chen Chuan disembarked from the cruise ship and met with his security escort. He sat in his designated vehicle, and it slowly started, heading back to his residence in Wuding District.
Chen Chuan began to address the messages he had received earlier, starting with some internal information. He noticed that there weren't any urgent tasks directed to him, so he ignored them for the time being.
He saw a message from Wu Han informing him that Wei Chang'an and the others had arrived in the Central City in early August.
Chen Chuan contacted Wu Han, and after a brief pause, Wu Han's excited voice came through, "Junior, you're back?"
"I just got off the ship," Chen Chuan replied.
At that moment, another communication signal came in, and An Dun provided a prompt, indicating that it was the same person as before but using a different communication channel.
An Dun further informed him, "Sir Chen, the sender is approximately 200 meters behind you and rapidly approaching... Security protocol inspection passed. The individual has no wanted or criminal record, so emergency precautions are not recommended."
Chen Chuan glanced back and saw a sedan chasing after them. "Block all signals from this person," he ordered.
"Received... Signal blocked," An Dun confirmed.
Ji Xinmin's expression darkened inside the car as he heard the signal feedback, indicating that he had been blocked. He quickly notified his companions in the front, "Get ready, his vehicle is approaching."
Just as Chen Chuan had blocked the signals, he noticed several vehicles blocking the road ahead, effectively sealing off the entire route.
The security team leader, Yu Xiao, immediately asked, "Sir, there's an obstruction ahead. We're unsure of their identity. Should we change course?"
"No," Chen Chuan replied. "Don't dodge. Ram through them."
