Chapter 64: This Is the Last Sight You'll Ever See
Chapter 64: This Is the Last Sight You’ll Ever See
Stomachs full and spirits high, Navy members lounged about, boasting and swapping tales. Klah silently rose and strode toward the Warship.
A perfect opportunity!
A cold gleam flickered in Buggy’s eyes. He glanced left and right before standing abruptly, feigning urgency. “Kuro Ensign, I’ll be right back—I need to take care of something.”
Kuro waved him off dismissively.
Buggy headed in Klah’s direction. Darkness swallowed him as he slipped away, only to reappear moments later wearing Klah’s exact face.
He didn’t bother killing Klah—timing might not allow it, and his true target lay elsewhere.
Buggy marched toward the highest tent. Upon arrival, he called, “Kuro Mr., I need to speak with you.”
He mimicked Klah’s calm tone, even pushing up his nonexistent glasses.
Oddly, he felt something missing as he did.
Did he forget a belt or something?
Kuro glanced at him. “What is it? Hmm? You didn’t bring anything? Planning to practice unarmed combat techniques today? Fine, let’s go.”
Kuro slapped his thighs, eyeing Lida still chewing food. He barked, “Lida! Stop gorging and get over here for training!”
Lida, still gnawing a meaty bone, crunched the morsel to bits and followed.
Training?
Buggy’s heart leapt. Perfect! He’d been racking his brains for an excuse to lure Kuro away—now one had fallen into his lap.
The trio vanished into the island’s interior.
Moments later, the real Klah strode in, clutching a small leather case, a blade at his waist. He tilted his head at the empty tent, eyes narrowing behind his glasses.
“Where’d everyone go?”
…
Inside the island, Kuro’s group trekked deeper, leaving all signs of civilization behind.
The night sky blotted out stars and moon, clouds rolling in from the east to shroud the heavens.
Without lights, the path grew pitch-black.
Buggy brought up the rear, eyes narrowing as the silhouettes ahead blurred into shadows. A sinister grin crept across his face.
Time to strike.
Kill these two, impersonate Kuro, and sail straight to the Grand Line.
Fingers twitching, he prepared to strike—then froze as Kuro abruptly halted, turning sharply.
The clouds parted, revealing a colossal moon. Its silver gaze bathed the island, casting ghostly light over the landscape.
Kuro stood in a clearing surrounded by truncated peaks, their summits severed. Moonlight draped him in a pale halo, his face hidden in shadow—chilling, otherworldly.
Caught?!
Buggy’s breath hitched. He froze mid-step, eyes locked on Kuro, wary and tense.
Kuro scratched his head. “Let’s do it here. Lida, he wants unarmed combat training—fight him.”
Lida groaned, “Not me! I just ate, and I’m tired. Plus, I felt a dangerous vibe earlier… Are there beasts here?”
“Impossible. You’re imagining things. This place has no predators.” Kuro snapped.
“Why?”
“I know this island inside out. I’ve been here for years. There were beasts once, but not anymore.”
“Know it inside out?”
Lida glanced around, suddenly paling. He pointed, trembling. “You—you did this?!”
He’d recalled Kuro’s training methods—chopping mountains endlessly. He’d always wondered where all those flat-topped peaks came from. Now he knew.
Kuro nodded. “Brings back memories of my cultivation days. Ah well, I’ll spar today. Haven’t trained in ages. This place’s perfect for a workout.”
Was I spotted?
No sign of suspicion.
So… Kuro wanted to train?
These people trained alone at night?!
Perfect.
Time to strike the killing blow.
Kuro cracked his neck, beckoning Buggy. “Come at me.”
You brought this on yourself!
Buggy surged forward, two fingers extended like a blade, aiming straight for Kuro’s throat.
He was a swordsman, but blades weren’t needed to kill this fool.
One strike—end him!
Smack!
A hand caught his wrist. No matter how hard he pushed, he couldn’t budge an inch.
Impossible!
Buggy’s eyes widened. This technique mimicked swordsmanship’s thrust—equal in power to his blade, speed rivaling Marine Headquarters elites. Yet Kuro blocked it effortlessly.
A mere Ensign?!
Kuro rolled his eyes. “Is this all you’ve got after training so long? You said you invented a new technique!”
“The one where you use your arm like a blade?” Lida added, “Klah, your speed’s worse than before.”
Kuro twisted, hurling Buggy skyward. The imposter slid across the ground, crashing into a distant rock pile.
“If that’s your new move,” Kuro sighed, “you’re finished today.”
He sounded disappointed.
Disappointed.
Kuro always pushed Klah and Lida to improve. Back in Enies Lobby, he’d seen Klah matched evenly with Blueno—barely. Since then, he’d drilled Klah relentlessly.
Now, after hearing about a new technique yesterday, this was the best Buggy could muster? Worse than before?
Buggy staggered up, coughing. The throw nearly shattered his disguise.
What’s happening?!
These two… their strength felt ordinary!
I’m Buggy the Clown, ‘evil impostor’ with a 370 million bounty!
What’s going on?!
He swallowed hard, eyeing Kuro’s blade. “My technique requires a sword.”
“Then why didn’t you bring one earlier? Troublesome,” Kuro muttered, tossing him Huazhou.
Buggy gripped the blade, stunned. This was a Famous Blade—he recognized the swirling pattern on the hilt. One of the Fifty Workshops’ masterpieces!
“Hehehe,” Buggy cackled, eyes gleaming. “A true swordsman multiplies his power with the right blade!”
He crouched, blade aimed at Kuro like a panther ready to pounce.
“Watch closely—this is the last sight you’ll ever see. Sword Technique: Meteor Flash!”
Whoosh!
Buggy vanished in a blur, a silver streak slicing moonlight—a comet aimed straight for Kuro’s heart.
