Chapter 638: Heading to Vormir (Second Update)
"Next, the Soul Gem!"
After checking the entire Ring World for any issues, Jerry opened the Panel and returned to the Main World.
"Dumb Girl, search the news of this city from the past few years and find anyone who might fit the criteria."
Above the capital of a certain country, Jerry instructed Dumb Girl on his wrist.
"Please wait a moment!"
Instantly, a virtual window appeared before him, and news reports started streaming by. Finally, hundreds of news articles were filtered out.
The events, people, processes, and current contact information, including phone numbers, addresses, and more, were listed in great detail.
The Soul Gem is the only one of the six gems that has its own consciousness.
It desires that each of its owners sacrifices the person they love the most to gain its power, even going so far as to capture Red Skull to serve as its guide.
Jerry wasn't foolish enough to sacrifice his own loved one for the Soul Gem. Instead, he planned to capture a pair of evil individuals, such as a son who has committed countless crimes and a mother who dotes on and protects him.
Using the Soul Bind to control the mother into sacrificing her son, Jerry would then take the Soul Gem from her once she obtained it.
He thought about it and decided that such individuals would likely be more common in the country he was currently in, so he immediately used Phantom Shift to arrive.
"The next step is to verify each one."
After reviewing the first news article that met the criteria, Jerry vanished on the spot using Phantom Shift.
The first news article he read was about a wealthy young man from a powerful family who was accused of multiple crimes, including assault, murder, humiliation, and imprisonment, three months ago.
However, he was recently reported to have been acquitted, as the victims either withdrew their complaints or disappeared, and all evidence was deemed false.
News reports aren't always accurate, so he needed to read their memories to confirm the truth.
"Sure enough, the first one fits!"
Ten minutes later, Jerry, with a look of satisfaction, teleported away from Earth with a man and a woman in tow.
The man was the wealthy young man from the news, under twenty years old, and had committed far more crimes than reported.
The woman was his mother, a middle-aged Ceo of a major corporation, who used her wealth and connections to cover up all of her son's crimes, securing his acquittal.
They perfectly matched Jerry's criteria.
A portal suddenly appeared on Vormir, and Jerry stepped out, holding one person in each hand.
"Truly desolate!"
Looking around, he found that Vormir wasn't a particularly large planet. It appeared to have suffered a catastrophic war, leaving behind only ruins.
Apart from the occasional sighting of Demon Lizards, which are incredibly resilient and can survive on almost any habitable planet, similar to Earth's cockroaches, there was almost no other life.
Despite its desolate appearance, Vormir was once a bustling small planet, and the environment is still suitable for human survival. Even ordinary Earthlings could adapt to it with a little time, though finding food would be extremely challenging.
Demon Lizards are not particularly strong and can be overpowered by a typical alien child, but they are highly aggressive and are often captured for gladiatorial contests on various planets.
Using the interstellar map in Dumb Girl, he could accurately pinpoint Vormir's location.
However, he wasn't sure exactly where on the planet the Soul Gem was located. The movie didn't provide specific details, only mentioning that it was on a mountain.
However, this was no challenge for him.
He spread his wings and flew high into the sky, flapping his three pairs of snow-white wings at supersonic speed as he circled Vormir.
Vormir was only slightly larger than the moon, and at full speed, he could complete a circuit in just a few minutes.
"Found it!"
Four minutes later, Jerry, using his powerful mental perception, quickly detected the energy aura of the Soul Gem on a high mountain.
"Welcome, Jerry, son of Tom Kamen!"
As Jerry landed on the mountaintop with the unconscious mother and son, a soul clad in tattered rags swiftly flew over.
"Hello, Mr. Schmidt!"
"You know me?"
The soul froze when Jerry called out his name.
Seventy-two years ago, he was sucked into the Cosmic Cube and appeared on this planet, where he was imprisoned by the Soul Gem and became its guardian. He also gained the ability to instantly know the names of anyone he saw.
Before the planet's civilization was destroyed by the power of the Soul Gem, he would always reveal the names of those who came seeking the gem. This was the first time someone had called him by name.
"Steve mentioned it, Captain America. He said he knew you well."
Jerry released the stunning spell on the mother and then used the Soul Bind to control her.
"He's still alive!"
When Red Skull heard Jerry's response, he immediately knew that Jerry was from Earth and was acquainted with his former arch-nemesis, Captain America.
A complex expression crossed his face:
"If you see him again, please tell him hello and that I'm sorry!"
Imprisoned by the Soul Gem for seventy-two years, he was no longer the Red Skull who sought to rule the world but a cursed penitent.
"No problem!"
Jerry waved his hand and used the Soul Bind to control the mother, dragging her unconscious son toward the cliff edge.
Red Skull, seeing this, hurriedly stepped forward to stop them.
"What are you doing?"
"What? Oh, this mother, who loves her son dearly, wants to obtain the Soul Gem. According to your rules, she plans to trade her son's soul for it!"
Jerry pointed to the mother, who, under the control of the Soul Bind, smiled and nodded at Red Skull, her face confirming the intent.
Red Skull's lips twitched.
"Alright!"
Although Jerry's words were correct, and his detection confirmed that the mother and son met the requirements for obtaining the Soul Gem, something still felt off.
For years, whenever someone came to sacrifice their beloved to obtain the Soul Gem, they were always filled with genuine sorrow. But this mother showed no sign of sadness on her face.
Moreover, the way she dragged her son was brutal, and when his head hit the stone, she didn't even flinch.
"Hmm, detected?"
Just as Red Skull stepped aside, and the mother was about to throw her son off the cliff, Jerry let out a light exclamation.
A surge of soul energy shot up from the cliff, sweeping over the mother and unexpectedly breaking Jerry's Soul Bind.
