Chapter 636: Sin Angel, Saleria
Chapter 636: Sin Angel, Saleria
"Before that, why not listen to this old man's words?"
A foot stomped on his lips. Kuro looked down at the mangled corpse fragments and clicked his tongue. "Shut up. When you die, just die obediently."
Just then, the voice sounded again.
"That won't do."
Even with his lips crushed underfoot, the voice still echoed from the dismembered remains.
"An elder's words deserve respect."
"Figures." Kuro narrowed his eyes. "This one's an illusion too."
This thing couldn't be killed—not like Kaido's regeneration type. This was pure illusion. The sensation of cutting it felt off earlier, but now it was in pieces and still speaking? One fact became clear: this wasn't a physical body.
His blades could wound Kaido and Big Mom, and even with their abilities, they weren't completely immune.
What about Buggy? He couldn't be cut, but he couldn't withstand Kuro's punches either.
The voice continued, calm and deliberate. "Long ago, I ate a Devil Fruit—a mythical beast. The Human-Human Devil Fruit, Mythical Beast Type: Sin Angel Form. This Devil Fruit's ability lets me absorb others' sins to gain strength. That strength made me invincible, with enemies kneeling at my feet, begging for mercy."
"But something was wrong. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't complete my transformation. Unlike Sengoku and Kaido, I couldn't achieve my complete form. Why? I had such power, yet why couldn't I transform?"
"I pondered endlessly, but found no answers—until the Navy captured me, throwing me into Impel Down. Watching pirates there drowning in despair, I finally understood. I'm the Sin Angel. Despair itself should be a sin. I shouldn't limit myself. I needed to absorb the deepest despair to become complete. At that moment, I grasped my Devil Fruit's true use—but it was too late. I was already imprisoned."
"But fate gave me another chance. When I escaped, I divided my strength into seven portions—the seven sins I could absorb. Human's Seven Sins."
"I distributed these sins to others, letting them carry out my will while I hid within. No matter which 'sin' dies first, I'll be reborn in the last dying sin. After all, angels are beings capable of rebirth!"
"But this requires despair. Those dreamers who seek to save the world must be stopped. There's nothing more beautiful than watching hope shatter before their eyes!"
The voice grew darker. "Hope turning to despair—that's the world's most exquisite strength!"
Kuro's pupils constricted.
"Actually, I should thank you. Your performance in the Top War caught my attention. You're a young Navy officer—idealistic, ambitious. I originally wanted to give you part of my strength, to convert you into my vessel. But I couldn't find you."
"Still, researching you led me to some interesting places."
"The 'Morgan Kingdom' in East Blue—Morgant. You saved that country, but some criminals fled. Those escapees didn't understand the nation's true movements, thinking themselves in hell. Fortunately, I found one of those lucky souls."
"And there are many such 'lucky ones' in this world. I've found them all. I gave them strength to save themselves—and the world. Those who gaze at light while trapped in hell cling desperately to the faintest hope. When they finally let go, they'll fall completely into hell—and that despair will return to me."
"I should thank you, young Navy. Your interference helped me complete my plan."
The voice merged, becoming a chorus of countless voices—male and female, finally blending into a single androgynous tone.
The wind began swirling, carrying snowflakes like matter drawn into a black hole, converging on the center before Kuro.
Even the lips beneath his foot broke free, joining the vortex.
Gradually, within the snowstorm, a humanoid figure emerged.
Long hair—half blue, half black—began dancing. Legs formed from snow, followed by an upper body sculpted with divine artistry.
Above it was a face—beautiful yet terrifying, male and female, holy and corrupt, all in one.
It was impossible to tell gender—possessing both maidenly purity and the old man's wickedness, innocence and age etched into its features.
Besides snow, black and white fragments fell from the sky.
"Feathers?"
Kuro reached out, catching a pair of black-and-white feathers.
A sound like wings unfurling echoed. Behind the figure's back, twin wings materialized—one jet-black, the other pure white.
"This is my true form."
Whoosh!
The figure soared into the sky, eclipsing the sun, leaving only its angelic silhouette.
"Sin Angel—Saleria!"
Saleria caressed their forehead, then thrust a finger downward, twisting their body into an exaggerated pose. "Behold my angelic form! You're truly fortunate to witness this!"
"An angel..."
Klah looked up at the being with dual-colored wings—a fusion of light and shadow—and felt his breath catch.
An actual angel had appeared!
This presence made Klah instinctively want to kneel. Perhaps this being really could—
"Worship me! Adore me! Praise me! I shall purge your sinful desires and lead you to a perfect, peaceful world! I—"
"You talk too much!"
Black Radiance slashed down from above, striking Saleria head-on.
Saleria's pupils contracted. Five fingers spread wide, a white-gold spear materializing in their hand. They blocked with a single motion.
Clang!
Boom!!
A shockwave rippled outward, stripping away the snow below to reveal a vast open plain.
The sudden tremor snapped Klah back to his senses. He cast one last glance at Saleria before retreating several steps.
In the air, Kuro gripped Autumn Water, locked in a clash with Saleria's spear.
Crack! Crack!
Saleria tightened their grip, hands trembling slightly. Surprise flickered across their face—astonished by Kuro's strength—but quickly faded.
"Oh? You refuse to praise me? Dare to defy a god?"
Saleria smiled lightly. "Fine. Even gods must deal with the fallen. And fallen souls must be cleansed."
"You're no god—just another Devil Fruit user. Spare me the theatrics."
Kuro sighed, his body dissolving into water.
"But you're right about one thing. You're truly disgusting. Those people carried genuine ideals. You're nothing but a maggot hiding beneath their greatness."
The voice came from behind Saleria.
Whoosh! Autumn Water's Black Radiance slashed again.
"This time, you'll die by my blade!"
