Chapter 636: Granddaughter is Amazing
Chapter 636: Granddaughter is Amazing
The one who called out to Jiang Xia was Old Mai.
Old Mai knew that Jiang Xia and Zhao Cheng Lei would come directly to the Sui Trade Fair from the Capital City. This time, he came from Hong Kong Island and waited for Jiang Xia in Sui City.
He had arrived two days ago and spent the entire day wandering around the exhibition hall, hoping to run into Jiang Xia, but he didn't see her.
Today, he came early and finally met her.
Jiang Xia smiled, "Old Mai, why are you here so early?"
Old Mai laughed, "I'm old, so I can't sleep much. I got up and walked around. Actually, my surname is Jiang, and my name is Jiang Mai. You can call me Grandpa Jiang."
Jiang Xia had been calling him Old Mai because others referred to him that way.
Now that he specifically mentioned it, she guessed he didn't want people to think his surname was Mai. Jiang Xia complied, "Grandpa Jiang."
"Ah." Old Mai smiled in response, his eyes almost welling up. He silently ignored the "Jiang" in his name.
Old Mai had rushed back to Hong Kong because a close friend had fallen seriously ill and was in surgery. He hurried back, fearing he would miss seeing his friend for the last time.
Now that his friend had successfully undergone surgery and only needed to stay in the hospital for recovery, Old Mai had rushed over as soon as his friend's condition stabilized.
At his age, every day felt like a gift. He also feared that he might suddenly fall ill and never find his long-lost wife and child.
Looking at Jiang Xia, he tried to find similarities between her and himself or his wife. This time, he finally found something!
It was her earlobes.
Jiang Xia's earlobes were exactly like his when he was young, thick and fleshy.
Of course, his earlobes had changed over the years. They had become lax and droopy, making his ears much longer than they were when he was young.
During this time, he had his secretary investigate Jiang Xia's background and saw a photo of her father.
At first glance, he was almost certain that the man was his son, bearing a striking resemblance to his younger self.
He had seen Jiang Xia's father in the newspaper before, but at the time, he hadn't given it much thought, never imagining that he could be his son.
What was hard to accept was that Jiang Xia's father was an orphan, with records showing that his parents had died when he was three.
This meant that his wife was already gone.
No wonder he had built the Sanmai Group into such a well-known company, frequently using the group's name to sponsor TV shows and movies, investing in various regions on the mainland, building roads and teaching buildings, and even donating to his and his wife's hometown. Yet, his wife never brought their son to find him!
Jiang Xia noticed that Old Mai's mood seemed off. "Grandpa Jiang, are you feeling unwell?"
Old Mai smiled. "I'm fine. I just remembered some old times."
Old Mai then looked at Jiang Xia's grandparents and second aunt, who were pushing a stroller, and asked with a smile, "Are these the children's grandparents and aunt?"
Zhao Cheng Lei introduced them. "These are my grandparents and second aunt."
Old Mai quickly extended his hand to shake the grandfather's hand. "So, you are the grandparents and aunt. Nice to meet you! Would you like to have lunch together?"
With so many people around, it wasn't convenient to talk. He had some things he wanted to discuss with Jiang Xia.
Old Mai looked at Zhao Cheng Lei and Jiang Xia. "Lei, Xiaxia, would you like to have lunch together? We can go to the nearby Mulan Hotel."
Zhao Cheng Lei glanced at Jiang Xia, unsure if she was free.
Jiang Xia shook her head. "Grandpa Jiang, I'm really sorry. I have a fashion show this afternoon, and I'm the organizer, so it's quite busy. I might not have much time these next few days. When are you heading back to Hong Kong Island?"
There were still many preparations to be made for the fashion show. Besides lunch, Jiang Xia also needed to return to her accommodation to breastfeed, so she definitely wouldn’t have time to have a meal with Grandpa Mai today.
Grandpa Mai quickly said, "No rush, we can have lunch when you’re free. I’ll be staying in Sui City for a while this time."
At that moment, someone called out to Jiang Xia. It was the furniture factory owner: "Comrade Xia, you’ve finally made it to the Sui Trade Fair! You haven’t forgotten our agreement, have you?"
Jiang Xia smiled and replied, "Of course not, I’ll definitely help out this time. Do you have the product materials for the furniture? Give me a copy, and I’ll look it over tonight."
Last year, when she bought furniture, she had agreed to work as a part-time translator for the furniture factory during the next Sui Trade Fair.
The factory owner had sold them so much furniture at cost price, saving them a lot of money. This time, she should at least help out with the translation.
Even if she couldn’t be there every day, she could definitely spare a day or two to help.
The furniture factory owner quickly said, "I have it! I have it! Do you want to come to the booth and pick it up?"
"Sure", Jiang Xia smiled and agreed, placing the baby in the stroller.
Grandpa Mai quickly said, "Give her to me, I’ll hold her!"
Jiang Xia handed the baby to Grandpa Mai, "Grandpa, I’ll be busy for a bit. We can have lunch later."
"Alright, go ahead!" Grandpa Mai held the little girl, feeling excited. His great-granddaughter!
Jiang Xia turned to Zhao Chenglei and her grandparents, "I’ll go over there first. If you finish your tour, just head back. No need to wait for me, I’ll go back on my own."
Zhao Chenglei looked at Grandpa Mai and nodded, "Mm."
So, Jiang Xia went with the furniture factory owner to the furniture exhibition area to pick up the product materials.
Grandpa Mai, looking at the triplets who resembled his son so much, was reluctant to return to the hotel. He asked Zhao Chenglei, "Are you planning to tour around?"
"Yes, I’m taking my grandparents for a walk."
Grandpa Mai said, "I’ll go with you! I also plan to tour around."
So, Zhao Chenglei took Grandpa Mai, his second aunt, and his grandparents on a tour of the exhibition hall.
He showed them the separate rest room prepared for Jiang Xia by the trade fair.
The rest room had an iron bed frame, a small table, a hot water kettle, new cups, and lunch boxes.
Grandpa Mai said, "This rest room is well-prepared."
His second aunt, feeling proud, said, "This is what Old He did to ensure Xia Xia could attend the Sui Trade Fair without neglecting the baby. He prepared it specially."
Grandpa Mai couldn’t help but feel proud as well!
His granddaughter was truly amazing!
After leaving the rest room, as they passed by the shipyard, Zhao Chenglei was called over by the shipyard manager.
He asked his second aunt and grandparents if they knew the way back to their accommodation, and they said they did. So, he let them wander around on their own.
He told them they could rest in Jiang Xia’s room if they got tired and wait for him there.
Grandpa Mai accompanied them, but being quite elderly, he got tired after carrying the baby for a while and placed her in the stroller.
His second aunt had to go buy groceries and cook, so the baby stayed in the stroller, and the three elderly people pushed it around the exhibition hall.
The three seniors were of similar age, all having lived through the hard and chaotic times of the past. They had plenty to talk about.
When Grandpa Mai’s grandparents learned that he had lost contact with his wife and son, they felt deep sympathy.
Grandma said, "Heaven will take care of the kind-hearted. You will definitely find your wife and son."
Grandpa Mai smiled and nodded, "Yes! I believe that too."
