Chapter 635: The Life of the Wealthy
Chapter 635: The Life of the Wealthy
As Lu Hongjun entered the living room through the front door, his eyes were immediately drawn to the crystal chandelier hanging in the center of the room. It was stunning and clearly expensive.
Butler Meng greeted him and offered him a seat. He then brought over a cup of health tea and a glass of juice, asking, "Sir, what would you like for lunch? I'll have the chef prepare it for you now."
Lu Hongjun preferred something light. "Make me a bowl of vegetable noodles. I'll rest after I eat," he said.
Butler Meng signaled to a maid nearby and then led Lu Hongjun and Lu Ping to the guest rooms. When he heard that they would each have their own room, Lu Hongjun said, "Pingping, you sleep in the same room as me."
Butler Meng looked at Lu Ping, and seeing him nod in agreement, he didn't say anything more.
The guest room was spacious, with an 1.8-meter bed and a television and air conditioner. Lu Jiaxin favored a minimalist style, so the entire house was decorated accordingly.
Lu Hongjun walked in and immediately noticed the floor-to-ceiling windows, which offered a clear view of the outside.
He saw a colorful garden and asked, "Who does this garden belong to?"
Butler Meng respectfully replied, "This garden also belongs to the boss. Sir, all the surrounding properties enclosed by the fence have been purchased by the boss. It's his private domain."
Lu Hongjun gazed at the vibrant clusters of blooming flowers outside and after a moment's silence, he asked, "Does this house belong to Jiaxin or Nie Zhan?"
Butler Meng, understanding the strained relationship between father and daughter and aware that Lu Hongjun had never visited before, gently explained, "This house solely belongs to the boss. Mr. Nie's house is in Repulse Bay, not far from here."
Lu Hongjun indicated that he wanted to take a bath, a subtle hint for Butler Meng to leave.
However, Butler Meng didn't depart. Instead, he called Lu Ping into the bathroom and showed him how to use the appliances.
After the demonstration, Butler Meng pointed to a bamboo basket and said, "Young Master Ping, after you and your grandfather have finished bathing, please put your clothes and towels in here. A maid will come to collect them."
Lu Ping enthusiastically expressed his agreement.
Butler Meng was thoughtful and considerate. As he left, he closed the door behind him. With the door shut, Lu Ping finally relaxed. There were so many people at his aunt's house, and he hadn't encountered many of these things before, so he couldn't help but feel nervous.
After Lu Hongjun and Lu Ping finished bathing and emerged, their lunch was ready. As per Lu Hongjun's request, the chef had prepared egg noodles with vegetables. It was accompanied by side dishes such as marinated tomatoes, braised beef, braised peanuts, and cucumber sticks.
Lu Hongjun took a bite of the noodles and was pleasantly surprised. "Where is the chef from?" he asked.
Butler Meng smiled and replied, "The chef is originally from Beijing. Because he loves cooking, he apprenticed under a master chef specializing in Beijing cuisine. He used to work in a large restaurant, but last year, the boss invited him to come here."
Working in a large restaurant meant having many disciples and a prestigious position, but it was also tiring. Lu Jiaxin offered a high salary and the chef would only need to cook for two people. It was less work for more pay, and as he wanted to take a break, he accepted the invitation.
The noodles were made to Lu Hongjun's taste, but due to his age and weaker digestion, he could only manage to eat two-thirds of the bowl before feeling full. On the other hand, Lu Ping was at an age where he could eat a lot. He devoured not only the entire bowl of noodles but also all the side dishes. Of course, the portions of the side dishes were not large.
After finishing their meal, Lu Hongjun said to Lu Ping, "Come with me to the back garden for a walk."
The backyard garden of the mansion was spacious, with many varieties of flowers planted. However, compared to the garden at Shichahai, it was a bit monotonous as it only had flowers and lacked the mountains, water, and grass of the other garden.
After walking for over ten minutes, Lu Hongjun felt tired and asked Lu Ping to support him as they returned to rest.
Only after Lu Hongjun fell asleep did Lu Ping leave the room. Not wanting to just sit and wait, he asked Butler Meng if there were any newspapers or magazines to read.
Meng the butler knew what this meant. Bored and looking to pass the time, Lu Ping wanted to read some newspapers or magazines. She suggested, "Young Master Ping, how about watching a movie? There are a few good ones that have come out recently."
"Nah, it's too far. I don't want to go," Lu Ping replied, remembering the sparse houses and long distance they had traveled to get there; the movie theater must be even further.
Realizing the misunderstanding, Meng explained that there was a home theater in the house, a smaller version of a regular cinema. When Lu Ping was led downstairs to the theater, he was stunned into silence by the room that could seat seventy to eighty people.
Having lost interest in watching a movie, Lu Ping asked, "Meng Butler, can you give me a tour of this mansion?"
After the tour, Lu Ping learned that the villa had a home theater, a gym, an antique room, and a wine cellar. The house was not lavishly decorated, but it exuded an air of sophistication. However, what Lu Ping liked the most were the dozen or so luxury cars in the basement.
Only after asking Wang Lin did he find out that most of these cars belonged to Nie Zhan, and only five were Lu Jiaxin's. "Mr. Nie is a car enthusiast. Including these, he has over twenty cars at his disposal," Wang Lin shared.
Their boss had a penchant for luxury watches, always keeping up with the latest models and buying them. Previously, Lu Ping had thought it was a waste of money. But now, upon learning of Nie Zhan's passion for collecting cars, he felt that the watches weren't so expensive after all.
Lu Ping spotted a sleek silver sports car and asked, "Can I take it for a spin?"
The butler smiled and readily agreed. "Of course. Please wait a moment while I arrange for a driver to take you out for a spin."
Lu Ping wanted to drive himself, but Meng the butler refused, citing the complicated road conditions and different traffic rules from the mainland.
Having napped for over an hour, Lu Hongjun woke up feeling refreshed. Upon noticing Lu Jiaxin's return, he smiled and said, "You're so busy with work. Pingping can keep me company, so you don't need to come back specifically for me."
Lu Jiaxin replied, "I came back to take you to the hospital for a full-body check-up."
Lu Hongjun was reluctant, insisting that he had already undergone a thorough check-up before leaving the hospital, and aside from high blood pressure and diabetes, everything else was fine.
"If you don't want to get checked, then at least try out their rehabilitation program," Lu Jiaxin suggested. "Gu Wenfeng couldn't even stand before, but after a year of rehabilitation training at Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital, he can now walk like a normal person."
Of course, there were two main reasons why Gu Wenfeng's training had been so successful. Firstly, he was still relatively young, being under forty years old. Secondly, he possessed strong willpower, enduring the pain and never backing down from the rigorous training.
"You're not tricking me, are you?" Lu Hongjun asked.
Lu Jiaxin bluntly replied, "You think too highly of yourself. I wouldn't waste my time making up stories to deceive you. If you don't want to go, I won't force you. Just make sure you don't regret it later."
Lu Ping remained silent, remembering Lu Jiaguang's instructions not to meddle in the affairs between his father and daughter. His task was simply to accompany and take care of Lu Hongjun during his stay in Hong Kong, and nothing more.
After a moment of silence, Lu Hongjun relented. "Alright, let's go."
Upon arriving at the hospital, they were greeted by a doctor who then escorted Lu Hongjun for his check-up. Once the check-up was completed, Lu Hongjun proceeded to the rehabilitation training.
Although the rehabilitation training was exhausting, Lu Hongjun considered giving up several times, thinking it would be better to return to Siyujiu City and take it slow. However, the instructor was extremely patient, offering encouragement and generous praise, which motivated Lu Hongjun to persist.
After an hour, a weary Lu Hongjun said, "Let's go home. I'm tired."
He was exhausted and could only think of crawling into bed. Sighing, he thought to himself, "I hear Gu Wenfeng's training was several times more painful than this. I definitely couldn't handle it if I were in his shoes."
