Chapter 634: You Don't Need a Friend Like Me...
Chapter 634: You Don't Need a Friend Like Me...
"Oh no, how could I have done something so stupid?" Harry's body trembled as he recalled the embarrassing scene.
It would have been fine if no one else had seen it, but at that moment, a few Ravenclaw girls happened to be passing by in the corridor. Harry felt that this incident would soon spread, and he would never be able to face anyone again!
Ivan patted Harry's shoulder sympathetically. Although Harry hadn't described the situation in detail, Ivan could imagine how awkward it must have been.
"Since Cho Chang turned you down, have you thought about who you'll ask next? The Dance is only a few days away!" Ivan reminded him.
"I haven't decided yet... I can't just go around asking people in the corridor tomorrow, can I? I don't even know who hasn't been invited yet." Harry muttered, feeling that if he went through another such embarrassing moment, he would surely run to the Arena to find a dragon and end it all.
"There's someone who definitely won't turn you down, Harry! If no one else has asked her, that is." Ivan said after a moment of thought.
"Who?" Harry asked eagerly, as if he had found a lifeline.
"What about Ginny?" Ivan asked with a smile.
"Ginny?" Harry hesitated, his face turning bright red. "But she's Ron's sister."
"So what? Ron is Ron, and Ginny is Ginny. Your argument with Ron has nothing to do with Ginny. I remember you two had a good chat the last time you met, didn't you?" Ivan couldn't quite understand Harry's logic.
"You know what I mean." Harry said helplessly.
He and the Weasleys were friends, and Mr. and Mrs. Weasley had always been kind to him. The Burrow felt like a second home to him, and Ginny was like a sister—too close, too awkward to make a move.
"Think about it yourself, then!" Ivan rolled his eyes, finding Harry's reluctance excessive.
Ginny was one of the prettiest girls in their year, and she was a big fan of his. What was so awkward about that?
Ivan didn't bother with Harry's hesitation and started preparing for bed. Just before getting in, he remembered something Charlie had told him and added, "By the way, Harry, Charlie mentioned that he told Ron about the dragon the day before the match."
Ivan's words snapped Harry out of his thoughts. He turned his head, initially confused, but quickly recalled Ron's strange behavior that night.
Harry wanted to ask Ivan to confirm his suspicions, but Ivan had already closed his eyes and lain down, pulling the covers over himself. It wasn't clear if he was really asleep.
Not wanting to disturb Ivan, Harry sat by his bed, waiting for Ron to return.
He waited until nearly eleven o'clock. Just as Harry was about to give up and go to sleep, the Dormitory door was gently pulled open.
It was Ron.
He probably hadn't expected Harry to be waiting for him in the Dormitory and stood at the door, hesitating, for a long moment before finally stepping inside.
The atmosphere in the Dormitory became very strange. Harry tried several times to break the silence, but the words always got stuck in his throat.
Ron, assuming Harry wouldn't speak to him, closed the door and walked silently to his bed. As he was taking off his shoes, a voice suddenly reached his ears.
“Were you trying to tell us that the first task involved Dragons that night?”
Harry’s words were harsh, as if they were barely forced out of his mouth. He even felt that saying this was more difficult than when he had invited Cho Chang to the Dance.
Ron stopped taking off his shoes, looking at Harry with an awkward expression. Finally, he muttered, “Yeah~”
Harry didn’t quite hear him, but he believed his guess. He angrily continued, “So you still think I put my name in that blasted cup?”
“I don’t know.” Ron turned his head, avoiding Harry’s gaze, and whispered, “Maybe, maybe someone wants you dead…”
When he learned from Charlie that the first task involved Dragons, he realized Dumbledore was right at the banquet. The Triwizard Tournament was only suitable for exceptional graduates. Participating in it with his abilities would be suicide, and Harry wouldn’t joke with his life.
So, after much deliberation that night, Ron decided to warn them, fearing they might get injured or even die in the first task.
But the outcome surprised Ron. Ivan and Harry seemed to have known about the Dragons all along and didn’t need his warning.
During the task, both of them breezed through with ease. Harry effortlessly rode his broom to grab the Golden Egg, and Ivan even subdued the Dragon on the spot.
The enthusiastic cheers in the Arena left Ron feeling out of place. By the time he remembered to congratulate them in the Champions' Room, he found that many people were already surrounding them.
It felt like… he was just an extra.
“Maybe? So you’re still doubting me?” Harry, unaware of Ron’s thoughts, was immediately furious. He couldn’t accept such an ambiguous statement.
“Yes, that’s exactly what I think. Is that a problem? Anyway, you don’t need a friend like me…” Ron couldn’t hold back his outburst and yelled.
After saying that, Ron didn’t even bother to take off his shoes. He just flopped onto the bed, pulling the covers over his head.
…
December, the depths of winter.
The weather gradually turned colder, but the atmosphere in the castle became increasingly restless, filled with the sweet-sour scent of romance. Walking through the castle, you could often see pairs of witches strolling together, and the rest were enthusiastically discussing the Christmas Ball.
After their initial setback, George and Fred’s new paid service didn’t falter. Instead, they received more orders and gained widespread praise.
Harry thought about it all day and finally decided to invite Ginny, who happily agreed right away.
At lunch, Harry shared this good news with Ivan.
“It turns out inviting a girl to the Dance isn’t that hard…” Harry sighed, feeling as if a great weight had been lifted off his shoulders now that he had a dance partner.
“Of course, as long as you’re proactive, you won’t be left alone,” Ivan said with a smile.
Harry nodded, then asked curiously, “What about you, Ivan? Has Hermione agreed to your invitation?”
“Not yet. I didn’t see her this morning, but I’ll go find her after lunch.” Ivan wasn’t worried at all, answering casually. He was confident Hermione would agree.
