Chapter 634: The So-Called Officer, Endure the Pain No Matter What
Chapter 634: The So-Called Officer, Endure the Pain No Matter What
"I'm deeply pained."
The maiden within the Iron Maiden wore a sorrowful expression. "Why won't you contribute your strength to saving the world? After all, only I can save it."
"Eh?"
Kuro arched his brow, then swung his Black Blade downward, releasing a razor-thin Wind Blade that carved through the snow ahead and hurtled toward the Iron Maiden.
"You're the one overflowing with pride", he said. "Saving the world? No one can shoulder that alone."
Bang!!
The Wind Blade roared forward, striking the Iron Maiden's surface and sending snow swirling violently.
Creak...
It sounded like something was being pried open. Amid the blizzard, an ear-splitting screech rang out.
The Iron Maiden's form split apart, revealing a small silhouette within the snowstorm. Soon, the figure stepped forward from the swirling snow.
It was a maiden with pale-blue hair, wearing a white dress and bare feet. Her serene face remained closed-eyed. Bloodstains marred her white dress, arms, and legs. Tiny, needle-like wounds dotted her skin like countless pinpricks. Yet these injuries didn't seem to trouble her. She appeared not disheveled, but rather like a suffering saint.
Anyone seeing her could only think of one word—sacred.
Kuro frowned, glancing at the hollowed-out Iron Maiden behind her.
This thing was a genuine torture device. Inside wasn't empty space, but lined with countless nails!
"Truly a self-flagellator", Kuro muttered.
"The world is blind." The maiden slowly opened her eyes, smiling gently. "Only by following me can humanity be saved."
"Lust, gluttony, greed, envy, rage, sloth, pride—these desires plague every human. Because of them, humans endlessly commit sins, never repenting across countless historical cycles. To save the world, humanity must purge these desires. Without them, humans will be whole."
She raised her hands as if basking in sunlight, radiating a milky glow that verged on golden.
"Come, accept my guidance. Abandon these desires and contribute to world peace."
The light touched the rescued Navy soldiers, whose eyes glazed over.
"Right... What pride do I have? Just a broken Navy position. I'm not truly just, am I?"
"I seem unqualified to wield justice. I can't bear this responsibility. The holy maiden is right—saving the world should be her burden."
"Exactly. Leave it to her. We're unfit to carry justice."
Visibly, their morale crumbled like shattered pride.
"Oh, I see. So the holy maiden's whole design is like this. Rather cute."
Nearby, the curly-haired uncle—temporarily freed from Kuro's "Wind Coffin" and lying prone—cracked his eyes open, watching the pale blue-haired holy maiden from his snowy perch.
"What should I do? I want to run, but it's too much trouble. The Golden Lion's affirmation would detect me anyway. Might as well nap here under the snow. It'll all be over when I wake up."
Moer muttered to himself, but suddenly, a shadow engulfed him.
He looked up to see Fen Ni's curious face peering down.
Just one glance, and Moer squeezed his eyes shut, feigning death.
"Um... sorry, Mr. Moer. Are you still alive?"
Fen Ni asked timidly.
The "corpse" didn't respond.
"Um..."
Fen Ni had picked up a stick from somewhere, poking Moer. "I'm a doctor. My job is to heal. If you're not dead, could you let me treat you? That chest wound looks painful. I rarely get to heal an injured enemy. Please let me help..."
"This woman..."
Moer's mind churned.
She even heals enemies? How like her.
Yet his next thought was mercilessly shattered.
"After healing you, I'll tell the others to kill you."
Moer: "...!!"
"Hey, do you agree?"
Fen Ni jabbed his side with the stick.
"Please let me heal you."
She poked his armpit.
"Hey, are you listening?"
She prodded his chest wound.
"Ow!!"
Moer couldn't take it anymore, jumping up with a shout. "What's wrong with you?! Heal me just to kill me? Are you a demon?! I barely escaped this combat mess. Can't an uncle take a break? Must kids be so energetic? Officers are exhausted, you know! Balancing family and societal pressure is tough!"
"Not dead?"
Sazil, hearing the commotion, turned in surprise. "You survived Kuro Vice Admiral's attack?!"
"Brat, you know nothing!" Moer sneered. "A true officer endures any pain, gritting teeth to march forward with burdens on their shoulders!"
"But you were clearly lying down", Fen Ni pointed out.
"Details don't matter! Ignoring details is how you live happily!" Moer snapped.
"Kuro Vice Admiral! Kuro Vice Admiral!" Sazil shouted.
"Hmph, brat, let me tell you—holy maidens aren't that simple. Even the Golden Lion couldn't—"
Hiss!!
Moer hadn't finished when Kuro suddenly flashed before the holy maiden, swung his Black Blade, and erupted a spray of blood, sending her crashing down.
"—easily—"
Moer's eyes nearly popped out as he stared.
"Seriously? Shouldn't there be a hundred-round battle, shaking heaven and earth? Is the holy maiden this weak? Why was she cut down so easily?! Where's the promised world salvation?!" Cold sweat drenched Moer as he screamed.
Kuro flicked blood from his blade into the snow, gazing coldly at the fallen maiden.
This strike stirred unease.
After all, she looked like a young girl.
Did the Navy need to go this far?
She was just a girl with a pure dream of saving the world.
Even Klah turned away, face pained.
Lida, however, furrowed his brow and cautiously stepped back.
"It's coming."
"Eh? What's coming?" Klah asked.
"The girl", Lida said grimly. "She's strong."
Kuro looked down at the fallen figure. "Who are you trying to fool with that face? Thinking you can deceive these fools with this appearance? Don't joke. I can smell your Impel Down stench from a thousand miles away, old man."
