Chapter 633: Each Has a Ghost-type Companion Beast
Chapter 633: Each Has a Ghost-type Companion Beast
When the boy's eyes regained their brightness, he found himself on a bustling street.
His face showed shock and surprise.
After a few seconds of stunned silence, the boy exclaimed, "Is this teleportation?"
"No, this is Spatial Shift", Qiao Sang corrected.
What's the difference between Teleport and Spatial Shift? The boy, who hadn't undergone systematic training, didn't quite understand.
But he knew now wasn't the time to be curious about such things.
"You're a truly remarkable Beastmaster", the boy said to Qiao Sang, his tone sincere.
Qiao Sang accepted the flattery without a second thought and said, "Let's find a place to sit down. I need to call the police again."
"Alright", the boy nodded obediently, with no objections.
The two walked into a café across the street.
After ordering their food, Qiao Sang looked around and casually chose a seat.
The boy sat opposite him.
Qiao Sang dialed the police, informed them of his current location, and hung up.
"Now, can you tell me what's going on?" Qiao Sang asked.
The boy glanced around, paused for a few seconds, and then said, "My name is Tim, and I'm from District 26. Two years ago, someone offered me a job and brought me to the Nineteenth District."
At this point, a pained expression crossed his face. "I didn't know what they were up to. They made me steal, act pitiful to scam money, and sometimes even lure temperamental wild beast companions into crowded places."
"I just wanted to make some money. Later, I found out that many others like me had been tricked here, and some were even kidnapped."
"I thought about running away, but there were Beastmasters among them, so I couldn't escape."
"So I decided to steal from the Beastmasters, thinking that only a Beastmaster could resist another Beastmaster. But those Beastmasters either let me go or beat me up. That's until I met you."
Steel Treasure listened quietly, a thoughtful look on his face.
So there are humans who suffer like this too...
Just as I suspected, they were being controlled... But what's the point of luring temperamental wild beast companions into crowded places? Is there some way to make money from it... Qiao Sang didn't dwell on this question and instead asked, "Are they part of an organization? How many people are involved? Are there many Beastmasters?"
Tim thought for a moment and replied, "They are definitely an organization. I don't know the exact number of people, but there are quite a few Beastmasters, and..."
At this point, he glanced at Treasure Seeker, then continued, "Most of those Beastmasters have a Ghost-type Companion Beast."
"Xunxun..."
Treasure Seeker pouted, muttering, "Why do you have to look at me when you say that..."
Ghost-type Companion Beasts... Qiao Sang was no longer the novice who had to look everything up online. She immediately recalled the various descriptions of Ghost-type Companion Beasts.
Different familiars evolve and absorb energy in different ways. Most Ghost-type Companion Beasts feed on bizarre forms of energy, converting them into their own.
For example, human dreams, grudges, fears, regrets, and even life itself...
No wonder... She had a feeling something was off...
Stealing money could only get you so far. Beastmasters held a high status in the Supernest society and had many opportunities. They could easily earn what a regular person would need to work a month for by fighting a few rounds in the Beast Arena.
Luring temperamental wild beast companions into crowds seemed to have no real benefit, but if they were collecting fear to feed their Ghost-type Companion Beasts, that made sense... After piecing together the information, Qiao Sang comforted Tim.
“It’s over. Just wait for the police to arrive, and tell them what you know.”
She had no intention of getting further involved. A group of Beastmasters with Ghost-type Companion Beasts could do anything, and such matters were best left to the police to handle.
Tim nodded.
“Yeah, I understand.”
“Miss, here is your coffee and milk.” The store clerk brought over the drinks.
Qiao Sang pushed the milk closer to Tim and said, “This is for you.”
“Thank you…” Tim was initially taken aback, but he then picked up the cup and cautiously took a sip.
At that moment, a man in a police uniform pushed the door open and walked in.
His attire was so distinctive that Qiao Sang immediately noticed him.
The man had a thick beard, was tall but not imposing.
He glanced around the room as if searching for something, then his gaze fell on Qiao Sang. He scrutinized her for a moment before walking over.
“Hello, did you call the police?”
Qiao Sang nodded slightly. “Yes, it was me.”
The bearded officer looked at Tim and confirmed, “Is this the boy who stole from you on the subway?”
Tim stood up, standing nervously to one side.
“He did steal, but he was being controlled,” Qiao Sang explained.
“It seems the situation is more complicated. I’ll need to take him to the station,” the bearded officer said, giving Tim a deep look. “Would you mind coming with us?”
Tim didn’t show any excitement at the arrival of the police. He looked at Qiao Sang with a serious expression and asked, “Can you tell me your name?”
Qiao Sang didn’t answer him. Instead, she took a sip of her coffee and asked, “Do I need to go to the station as well?”
The bearded officer was taken aback for a moment, then he smiled. “No, that’s not necessary.”
With that, he reached out to guide Tim toward the door.
Tim didn’t move. He looked at the small Beastmaster who had helped him, hoping she would tell him her name.
Qiao Sang put down her coffee cup, rubbed her temples, and said calmly, “I’m afraid I can’t let you take him.”
“Why?” The bearded officer frowned.
_If I know the process of reporting to the police so well, why are you making so many mistakes? With so many people here, you determined it was me who called the police before I even said anything. Most importantly, you’re not letting the person who reported the crime come in for a statement. What are you thinking…_ Qiao Sang silently criticized, maintaining a calm and enigmatic demeanor.
Tim seemed to realize something and showed a look of fear, struggling to free himself from the bearded man’s grip.
The bearded man, unsure of what had gone wrong, looked grim but maintained his police officer persona. “If you don’t cooperate, I’ll have to use force.”
As he spoke, a voice whispered in his ear, “Treasure Seeker.”
The bearded man shuddered, released Tim’s arm, and shouted, “Shadow Ambush!”
A dark shadow suddenly shot out from the bearded man’s shadow, moving along the ground toward Qiao Sang.
Just as the shadow was about to reach her, Qiao Sang vanished from her spot, along with Fangy, Treasure Seeker, and Steel Treasure.
The bearded man’s eyes widened, and he suddenly realized something. He turned around to find that Tim, who had been standing beside him, had also disappeared.
“!!!”
Unable to control himself, the bearded man blurted out, “Fuck!”
He took a deep breath and immediately prepared to leave.
“Sir!” A store clerk called out to him.
The bearded man turned around, his face dark.
The store clerk mustered up the courage and said, “The lady over there hasn’t paid for her drinks yet.”
The bearded man was speechless for a moment.
In a narrow alley, Tim looked shaken. “That man wasn’t a police officer, was he?”
“Probably not,” Qiao Sang replied.
Tim was speechless.
Her phone vibrated at that moment.
Qiao Sang glanced at the caller ID but chose not to answer.
“Let’s not wait for the police. I’ll take you there directly,” Qiao Sang said.
