Chapter 633: Are You Really Not Considering Raising Dragons with Me?
Chapter 633: Are You Really Not Considering Raising Dragons with Me?
"Thanks, Charlie!" Ivan said gratefully.
When he had planned that battle, he had only focused on making it more exciting and ensuring Norbert wasn't seriously injured, but he had overlooked the fact that professionals could analyze Norbert's injuries to determine if they were faking the fight.
"Hah... No need to thank me. I got to watch an amazing show for free, and with this performance, I'm sure Norbert will become famous!" Charlie laughed, then added with a sigh.
"Harry did a great job too, with the Firebolt and the Blinding Spell. It's clear you two planned this well. I was a bit worried that George and Ron wouldn't be able to tell you the details of the first task in time..."
"George? Ron?" Ivan looked at Charlie in surprise.
"What? Didn't you get the information from them?" Charlie was also a bit surprised.
"No, Harry and I were following Hagrid that day, so we saw the dragons!" Ivan explained.
"Alright, looks like I was overthinking it!" Charlie smiled wryly and then explained the situation to Ivan.
He had seen Hagrid bringing Maxime to the Arena to look at the dragons and was worried it might be unfair to the Hogwarts Champion. So, he secretly told George and Ron, hoping they would pass the information on to ensure Ivan and Harry wouldn't be caught off guard in the first task, and wouldn't be at a disadvantage in terms of information.
No wonder... Ivan recalled that the day before the competition, George and Fred had been unusually eager to ask if they were prepared for the task.
Ron had also stayed up late in the dormitory, waiting for him and Harry, probably to tell them about the dragons.
"Alright, let's not dwell on that. The important thing is that you both made it through the first challenge! Let's go see Norbert; he's just up ahead." Charlie pointed forward and said.
Ivan followed Charlie's gaze and, despite the distance, immediately spotted Norbert's massive body.
Dragons, these magical creatures, truly have a commanding presence. Adult dragons are often over fifteen meters long, with some female dragons reaching up to twenty meters. Their mouths are filled with sharp teeth, and their backs are adorned with menacing spikes, making them truly intimidating.
However, Norbert's majestic image was completely ruined by his current antics. He was trying to knock down a tall pine tree, repeatedly ramming it with his front legs and body, and the surrounding wooden fence was in shambles, clearly a result of his frequent mischief.
Charlie winced at the sight. Compared to other dragons, Norbert was far too active. If left in one place for a few hours, nothing around him would remain intact.
Ivan was also speechless. Watching Norbert was like watching a giant husky. It took him a while to calm Norbert down, making him stop destroying the fence and stay put.
Then, Ivan summoned Dobby and served the barbecue feast he had prepared.
Norbert had helped them so much, so it was only right to treat him well.
Ivan personally fed him, seasoning the prepared roasted rabbits and beef legs before tossing them into Norbert's large mouth.
To build a closer relationship with Norbert and make it easier to obtain dragon blood in the future, Ivan was incredibly patient.
"Ivan, you really have a talent for being a Dragon Keeper. Are you really not considering coming to Romania after graduation?" Charlie asked, watching the wizard and dragon interact amicably.
"Please, spare me. Just taking care of little Norbert a few years ago was almost enough to drive me crazy!" Ivan shook his head and tossed the last piece of roasted beef leg into Norbert's large mouth, complaining.
"Better not say that. Norbert doesn't like it when people insult it to its face..." Charlie shrugged.
Sure enough, Norbert seemed displeased upon hearing Ivan's words. It huffed a small flame from its mouth, nearly singeing Ivan's hair.
"Hey, Norbert, don't be like that. I was just joking! I actually love raising dragons the most..." Ivan quickly changed his tune, patting Norbert's big head in a soothing manner. He said a lot of nice things and promised to visit more often, finally calming Norbert's little tantrum.
Charlie found the scene amusing and then began to recount Norbert's experiences in Romania.
"When you and Hagrid brought Norbert here a few years ago, we thought it was a boy from the name. But when we did a check-up, we discovered Norbert was actually a female dragon!"
"Later, I thought the name Norbert wasn't quite right, so I and my colleagues planned to give it a new name... Norberta!"
"Norberta? Why haven't I heard you call it that?" Ivan asked curiously.
"Because it prefers everyone to call it Norbert. Every time we tried a new name, Norbert wouldn't respond to us." Charlie sighed, feeling quite helpless. They had tried many methods, but Norbert never accepted its new name.
"I have no idea how you managed to make such an impression on Norbert in just a month. And even after four years, it still recognized you and Hagrid so quickly." Charlie said with interest. He had been raising dragons for several years and had never encountered such a situation.
"Maybe Norbert is just naturally smarter than most dragons!" Ivan said offhandedly, but a possibility crossed his mind.
Norbert clearly remembered the events of its first month of life, likely because Professor Mcgonagall had been quite rough when handling it, and the oppressive aura of Dumbledore's anger left a deep impression. Since then, Norbert's life had been overshadowed by the presence of wizards.
"That's true, Norbert is the smartest dragon I've ever seen", Charlie agreed, assuming Norbert was an exceptional dragon with a better memory than its peers.
The two continued chatting about their time in Romania. When the sky grew completely dark, Ivan said his goodbyes and left Norbert and Charlie to return to the castle.
Upon reaching the entrance to the boys' dormitory, Ivan opened the door and stepped inside. He saw Harry sitting on his bed, looking pale and dejected, as if he had just received a severe blow.
"What's wrong, Harry?" Ivan asked, puzzled.
Harry looked up at Ivan and, after a long pause, said dejectedly, "I just asked Cho Chang out!"
"And she said no?" Ivan could guess the outcome just by looking at Harry's expression.
"Worse! I went too late. Cho Chang had already accepted Cedric's invitation this afternoon..." Harry muttered, "I didn't know and spent a Galleon on George and Fred..."
