Chapter 630: Unease in the Rain's Soul Society
Chapter 630: Unease in the Rain's Soul Society
In a courtyard on the outskirts of town, Feng Ye strolled leisurely towards a dense forest, a fishing rod in hand and a bucket in tow. Several hundred meters into the forest lay a broad river cutting through the thicket.
"She gave up her only chance to escape." Feng Ye mused with a faint smile. "I'm all about fairness. If one fails to seize their opportunity, well, I can't be blamed for not giving them a fair shot."
The entire estate was enveloped in an invisible barrier that originated from the surrounding walls. However, when he had exited earlier, the barrier at the main entrance was left open.
If Bambietta had attempted to flee the estate after he departed, she indeed could have escaped. Unfortunately for her, she did not seize that opportunity.
For Bambietta, this might have been the game's sole happy ending. Yet, she let that chance slip by.
Feng Ye didn't bear a particular grudge against the Quincies. The ancient war a millennium ago, as described by the Shinigami, was not a battle for justice. Both the Shinigami and the Quincies had their own brand of justice.
According to the Shinigami, they fought to send Hollows and souls to the World of the Living, creating a cycle between the two realms. In contrast, the Quincies sought to directly destroy Hollows without sending them to the other side, which would eventually disrupt the balance between the Soul Society and the World of the Living, leading to the world's collapse.
This irreconcilable difference sparked their decisive battle.
However...
The Quincies had their own rationale. They argued that as long as the Shinigami refrained from sending Hollows and souls to the other world, the balance would be maintained.
In other words, if the Shinigami ceased to exist and no longer carried out their task of sending Hollows to the World of the Living, while the Quincies hunted Hollows in both the Soul Society and the World of the Living, the overall equilibrium would still hold, and stability would be preserved.
Yet, both the Shinigami and the Quincies staunchly believed that their method was the correct one.
Neither side was willing to compromise, and so, to maintain balance, only one of the two races could survive. This led to the bloody millennium war.
To Feng Ye, towering above in the sky, both the Shinigami and the Quincies were equal in his eyes. Thus, deciding the Quincies' fate was a minor issue.
And that was precisely why he was here—to resolve this matter.
As he continued deeper into the forest, he reached the riverbank, baited his hook, and cast his line into the water, beginning a leisurely fishing session.
Several dozen miles upstream, a horseman with fishing gear arrived at the river's edge.
Fishing was a delightful pastime, but one had to be cautious when riding out to fish in the wilderness; securing one's horse properly was essential, lest the catch of the day be overshadowed by the loss of one's steed.
Unlike the Shinigami, the Quincies were essentially humans with physical bodies, so their realm, the Vandenreich, more closely resembled the World of the Living than the Soul Society. Moreover, it could also connect to the World of the Living.
However, only members of the Wandenreich's Sternritter were capable of using the Schatten Bereich to exit the Vandenreich and enter other dimensions.
As Feng Ye fished, a thousand miles away, in the royal city of Silber, within one of the noble families of the Wandenreich, the prestigious Bambietta family, a shocking incident occurred.
The eldest daughter, Bazz-B, had gone missing!
As one of the only three members of the Bambietta family with second-level blood status and a potential candidate to become a Sternritter, Bazz-B's disappearance caused a massive uproar within the family. Countless knights were mobilized to investigate her whereabouts.
If that happened, they would all have to submit to them.
The major families all denied any involvement in the disappearance of the young lady of the Bambietta family, and without evidence, the Bambietta family could do nothing but issue a stern warning. They declared that if they found any connection between this incident and a particular family, they would not let the matter rest, even if it meant reporting it to the Sternritter for judgment.
However, the Invisible Empire was vast, covering an area larger than all of Soul Society. In addition to Silber, there were countless large and small towns.
The commotion in Silber City only spread to the nearest towns overnight, while the more distant ones remained quiet.
And at this moment...
In the very center of Silber, at the entrance of the palace, stood a man with light golden hair. He was handsome, noble, and bore a slight resemblance to Feng Ye.
He was the leader of the Sternritter, Yugren·Hasford, Yhwach's personal guard, and the one who received Yhwach's omniscient power during his slumber.
"The sky is so dark, and you're still here, Yugren?"
A figure emerged from the back of the palace. He was Bazz-B, a member of the Sternritter and a childhood companion of Yugren, addressing him differently from others.
Yugren's gaze turned towards the north, in the direction of Feng Ye, but he could neither see nor sense Feng Ye's presence.
All he felt was a slight, inexplicable sense of unease.
"I sense... unease," Yugren said softly, standing there.
Bazz-B frowned. "It's just your imagination."
Yugren did not respond immediately but continued to look into the distance. After a few seconds of silence, he turned to Bazz-B and said gravely, "...I hope so."
Leaving those words behind, he descended the steps.
The King of the Quincies!
After 900 years, the heartbeat shall return,
After 90 years, consciousness shall awaken,
After 9 years, strength shall be regained,
And in just nine days... this world shall be seized!
This was the saying that spread throughout the Invisible Empire, a scripture that countless Quincies held as their faith and strength.
More than 900 years had passed since their defeat at the hands of the Gotei 13, and His Majesty had already regained his heartbeat and was slowly regaining consciousness.
Seventy-seven years remained.
As Yhwach's personal guard and the leader of the Sternritter, Yugren had waited far too long. He did not wish for any more unforeseen events to delay Yhwach's resurrection.
"Yugren..."
"You..."
Bazz-B furrowed his brows and glanced in the direction Yugren had been looking, but all he could see was darkness; he could neither see nor sense anything else.
Finally, he shook his head and put the matter out of his mind, descending the steps as well.
