Chapter 630: Perhaps, This Is the Price of Completing the Task
Chapter 630: Perhaps, This Is the Price of Completing the Task
The next morning, the castle was as lively as ever. All the young wizards were enthusiastically discussing yesterday's thrilling match.
This meant that wherever Ivan went, he could hear people talking about his glorious deeds.
Similarly, as the champion, Harry's reputation at the school had done a complete 180-degree turn.
No one cared anymore about his cheating to enter the competition. Everyone seemed to have put aside their prejudices, and even students from other houses would greet him when they met.
After all, Harry's heroic performance in the match was entirely worthy of his champion status!
However, Harry's good mood didn't last long. Later that afternoon, Professor Mcgonagall announced the Christmas Ball at the end of the Transfiguration class.
"Dancing is a tradition of the Triwizard Tournament, and it's an opportunity for us to bond with our foreign guests and foster friendly relations. All fourth-year and above students are welcome to attend!
As for the younger students, if someone is willing to invite you, you can also join the Christmas Ball as a dance partner..."
Professor Mcgonagall's words only added to the already lively atmosphere in the castle, pushing everyone's excitement to a new peak!
The mention of choosing a dance partner, attending the ball, and building relationships made the eligible boys start to get restless.
The young witches were equally excited about the upcoming Christmas Ball. They began whispering among themselves, planning the dance before Professor Mcgonagall had even finished speaking.
A few bold girls even glanced at the boys in the classroom, especially lingering on Ivan. When Ivan noticed, they didn't shy away but giggled and even gave him a flirtatious wink.
Ivan was a bit at a loss with such enthusiasm, shaking his head and inwardly sighing that being too outstanding wasn't always a good thing.
It always brought some unnecessary trouble in life.
Perhaps... this was the price one had to pay for completing a task...
Like Ivan, Harry was also troubled by the dance, especially when Professor Mcgonagall mentioned that champions were required to attend. He almost stood up to protest.
As soon as they stepped out of the Transfiguration classroom and into the castle corridor, Harry immediately started complaining. "Why do champions have to attend that Christmas Ball? I don't even know how to dance..."
For the naturally shy Harry, inviting a girl to the dance face-to-face was almost an impossible task.
What if he got rejected on the spot? That would be so embarrassing.
Just thinking about it made Harry feel a bit dizzy.
"I'd rather Professor Mcgonagall had me face another dragon for Christmas!" Harry said, clearly frustrated.
Ivan looked at Harry with a strange expression.
Was this what they meant by girls being scarier than dragons?
But thinking about the upcoming dance, Ivan also hesitated, unsure of who to invite.
As he was pondering, a figure immediately came to mind. Just as he was about to turn his head, Hermione's voice beat him to it.
"Harry, you're Hogwarts' champions. Why worry about this? Even if you do nothing, someone will come forward to invite you! You just need to decide who to choose as your dance partner..."
Hermione's tone sounded a bit strange as she stepped into the entrance hall, then pursed her lips and pointed ahead. "Look! Just look at them!"
Harry glanced into the Great Hall, half-believing and half-doubting.
Due to the Triwizard Cup tournament, the Great Hall had undergone significant changes. The banners of the Three Schools hung high in the air, and four new hourglasses were prominently displayed, likely to track the tournament scores.
Krum, the Durmstrang Champion, stood not far away, surrounded by a group of older young witches chattering excitedly.
Fleur, seated at the Ravenclaw table, wore an expression of exasperation, probably because there were always boys, dazed and infatuated, trying to invite her to the dance.
But to Ivan, it seemed Fleur was enjoying it. Each time someone approached her, she would engage in a brief conversation with them.
She seemed to relish the attention.
"Do you want to invite her to the dance?" Hermione asked Ivan suddenly, noticing his gaze fixed on Fleur.
Ivan shook his head.
At that moment, Fleur, who had been sitting at the Ravenclaw table, got up and spoke to the girls beside her before walking over to them. She was the center of attention, every move drawing numerous glances, but Fleur paid little heed to the stares. She walked straight up to Ivan and asked with interest, "Hals! You haven't found a dance partner yet, have you? How about joining me for this year's Christmas Ball?"
Fleur's bold words stunned everyone present. Some of the young wizards who were infatuated with her felt their hearts break.
Ivan was completely taken aback by Fleur's invitation. They hadn't interacted much these past few days.
"You're both Champions, you should be inviting others to the dance!" Hermione interrupted, her face darkening, her brown eyes glaring at Fleur with annoyance.
"Is that so? I don't see that rule anywhere!" Fleur said haughtily.
Although she had noticed Hermione and Ivan's close relationship in the Common Room tent the previous day, since they weren't dance partners yet, she still believed she had a chance. Fleur was confident that no one could resist her charm.
However, Ivan's response caught Fleur off guard. He bluntly declined, "Sorry, Fleur, but I already have someone in mind. I can't accept your offer."
Fleur's smile froze, and she stared at Ivan in surprise. Her usually irresistible allure had failed for the first time with a male wizard.
"I think you should leave, Miss Fleur", Hermione said, a hint of satisfaction in her voice despite her scathing tone.
"Is that so? What a pity!" Fleur cast a regretful glance at Ivan, quickly regaining her composure, and then turned and walked away without a backward glance.
As soon as Fleur left, George and Fred, who had been watching, immediately approached Ivan, looking at him as if he were a monster.
"Blimey, I can't believe you turned her down!" George slapped Ivan on the shoulder, his tone filled with disbelief.
"Are we dreaming or something?" Fred exclaimed dramatically.
"This is no big deal! Not everyone has to like her!" Hermione said angrily, glaring at the two of them.
