Chapter 630: No Corners to Turn (Second Update)
Chapter 630: No Corners to Turn (Second Update)
In the changing room beneath the stands for the champions.
"Change into your competition robes here first. When you hear me call your names, come out."
Ludo led Jerry and the other two to the changing room and then temporarily left.
Jerry and the others entered three separate rooms in the changing room, each separated by curtains. They took off their school uniforms and put on the competition robes that had been prepared in advance.
Jerry's robe was a black and green long-sleeved T-shirt with the Hogwarts crest on the chest, a large H surrounded by the emblems of the four houses: the snake, the lion, the eagle, and the badger.
Soon after changing, he heard the cheers of the young wizards and the sounds of various instruments playing outside.
Clearly, the professors and students from the three schools were entering the arena.
Hearing the growing noise, Krum and Fleur, who were also in the changing room, became visibly nervous.
"Don't worry, this round won't be dangerous for you."
Jerry, noticing their anxiety, offered a kind reassurance.
However, Krum and Fleur's faces tightened at Jerry's words.
Their first thought was that Jerry must have already known about their cheating.
The Fantastic Beasts and Magical Traps inside the maze were certainly dangerous for them. But they had already learned the general layout of the maze and the types of traps used, and with their headmasters' help, they had prepared strategies to avoid and counter these traps.
So, as long as they didn't encounter the Fantastic Beasts that Hagrid had placed inside, this final maze would indeed be safe for them.
"The Triwizard Tournament tests not only the magical prowess of the champions but also their wisdom and adaptability. Since we are not as powerful in magic as you, we must rely on our wisdom to win!"
Assuming Jerry's reassurance was a veiled insult, Fleur immediately retorted.
Their headmasters had told them that in past Triwizard Tournaments, the means were irrelevant; only the results mattered. The preparations they had made could be seen as a test of wisdom and adaptability.
Krum didn't say anything. He was not fond of cheating, but for the honor of his school and his headmaster, he had to accept it.
"Uh..."
Looking at Fleur, who held her head high, Jerry was speechless.
He had just wanted to reassure them, as his plan ensured they wouldn't be in any danger. How did this turn into a discussion about wisdom and adaptability?
Fortunately, at that moment, Ludo's voice, amplified by the Sonorus Charm, came from outside.
"Let's now welcome the three champions: Jerry Carmen from Hogwarts, Viktor Krum from Durmstrang, and Fleur Delacour from Beauxbatons!"
Jerry stood up, pushed open the wooden door of the changing room, and walked out with Krum and Fleur onto the green lawn in front of the stands.
The appearance of the three champions immediately brought the atmosphere to a fever pitch. The numerous Magic Torches around the stands lit up, illuminating the night as if it were daylight.
"Ladies and gentlemen, the final event of the Triwizard Tournament is about to begin!
Currently, according to the scores, Jerry Carmen has two perfect scores totaling one hundred points, placing him first. Viktor Krum is in second place, and Miss Fleur Delacour is in third.
So Mr. Carmen will be the first to enter the maze, followed by Mr. Krum, and finally Miss Delacour, with a one-minute interval between each of them."
Ludo stood on the stage, loudly explaining the competition rules, then turned to Jerry on the lawn and said:
"Mr. Carmen, if you encounter a situation you can't handle inside the maze and need to abandon the competition, you can use your wand to shoot a red magic beam into the sky. The professors patrolling the area will arrive immediately to rescue you.
If you understand, I will count down from three, and you can start when I say one!"
Jerry nodded, indicating that he understood everything.
Ludo then began the countdown and blew the whistle to signal the start of the competition.
Jerry immediately turned and walked toward the nearest entrance to the maze.
As soon as he stepped inside, the entrance behind him was covered by green magical plants, and the cheers and music from the young wizards outside vanished instantly.
The world suddenly became quiet, leaving only the endless green walls around him, which looked particularly eerie and dangerous in the dark night.
However, these deliberately created scary atmospheres were clearly too childish for Jerry.
He calmly cast a light orb with his wand, which floated overhead, illuminating the surroundings, and then walked straight toward the center of the maze where the Triwizard Cup was located.
Soon, he encountered the first fork in the maze.
"Turning is not an option!"
With a wave of his wand, he cast an Enhanced Super Explosion Spell.
"Thunder Blast!"
A massive magic beam shot from Jerry's wand, directly hitting the tall wall covered in green magical plants in front of him.
"Boom!"
The deafening explosion broke through the soundproofing charms within the maze, reaching the ears of the spectators outside, causing them to exchange puzzled glances.
The tall walls within the maze were engraved with multiple defensive runes by the witches of the Ministry of Magic, and the green magical plants had the ability to block magic power.
Therefore, even a Ministry of Magic Auror would normally be unable to destroy them with destructive spells.
Unfortunately for the maze, Jerry was not bound by normal rules, and the power of his magic certainly wasn't within the normal range.
"Come to me!"
He pointed his wand at the Triwizard Cup in the distance, and a powerful mental force dragged the cup quickly toward him, gently landing in his hand.
Jerry had never intended to navigate the maze, solve the magical traps, and deal with the fantastic creatures inside before finding the Triwizard Cup. While that would have been relatively simple for him, there was an even simpler method.
When your power is strong enough, you don't need to play games. The best way to solve problems is to do so simply and directly.
Therefore, his reassurance to Krum and Fleur in the changing room that they didn't need to worry about the maze's dangers wasn't because he knew they were cheating, but because he knew they wouldn't need to enter the maze at all.
The one-minute interval was more than enough time for him to retrieve the Triwizard Cup and end the competition.
