Chapter 628: Your First Death
Chapter 628: Your First Death
"Young... Young Miss..."
Upon seeing Bonaparta take an offensive stance against Feng Ye, the guards on the opposite bank of the river were startled. They quickly leaped across the riverbank and stood beside Bonaparta, ready to defend her.
Bonaparta raised her chin and pointed at Feng Ye, ordering, "Seize him!"
"... "
Feng Ye's gaze remained calm, a faint golden glow appearing in his eyes as he looked towards Bonaparta, his vision piercing through her body and straight into her soul.
The Eye of God was a power to manipulate emotions, but it could also see into the minds of others, reading their thoughts. Unless one's spiritual level was on par with Feng Ye's, it was nearly impossible to stop the Eye of God's ability to read minds.
In an instant, Feng Ye's gaze had seen through every corner of Bonaparta's soul, and the images reflected there caused his eyebrows to raise slightly.
She was just as he had imagined.
The young girl before him, though cute in appearance and lively in personality, was exceptionally cruel and capricious. Whenever she was in a bad mood, she would find handsome men to torture and kill for her amusement.
Feng Ye even saw some of Bonaparta's gory and gruesome mental images involving himself, which were rather bloody and unpleasant to behold.
"You're truly despicable."
Instead of getting angry at these images, Feng Ye actually smiled.
Bonaparta, under the gaze of Feng Ye, felt as if her entire being had been seen through, causing her body to tense up and feel extremely uncomfortable.
Swish! Swish!!
At that moment, the guards who had received Bonaparta's command glanced at each other briefly, hesitated for a moment, then proceeded to act, surrounding Feng Ye in the center.
Although Feng Ye appeared to be of noble birth as well, Bonaparta's orders had to be carried out. Otherwise, the consequences for disobedience would be dire.
Whoosh!
Just as the guards encircled Feng Ye, about to make their move, he suddenly stepped forward, his figure flashing as he appeared directly in front of Bonaparta.
Bonaparta could only catch a glimpse of a blurry afterimage, unable to see what had happened clearly. Her pupils constricted violently, and she subconsciously tried to step back.
But...
Just as she lifted her foot, she felt her clothes being grabbed, and her body shook violently as she was unable to move away from Feng Ye.
Feng Ye calmly reached out and grabbed Bonaparta's clothes, preventing her from retreating, and then gently lifted her up.
"You..."
Bonaparta's face turned ghastly, and she held out her left hand, on which a badge was glowing. In an instant, a spiritual energy blade extended from the badge and slashed towards Feng Ye's arm.
However, when the spiritual energy blade touched Feng Ye's sleeve, it immediately disintegrated, as if fragile glass had collided with sturdy steel and shattered instantly.
It was at this moment that Bonaparta noticed the guards behind her, who had all strangely frozen in place. They swayed slightly before falling to the ground one by one, their spiritual pressure disappearing.
How could this be!
Bonaparta's body stiffened, and a hint of horror flashed in her eyes. Her guards were not particularly strong, but they were by no means weak either. They were Quincies, second only to the formal knights.
Yet, in front of Feng Ye, they had all fallen without him making any noticeable move!
What a terrifying display of strength!
Even a formal knight wouldn't be able to take down all her guards in such a short time. Perhaps only a knight captain could achieve something like this! But Feng Ye had said he wasn't a knight...
Moreover, the feeling Feng Ye gave her was peculiar, as the spiritual perception she felt from him up close was completely different from that of a regular Quincy.
"Are... Are you a special Quincy?"
Bonaparta thought of a possibility, her voice slightly trembling as she spoke.
The power left behind by the Soul King had permeated every corner of the world. There were strange beings in the Soul Society, special Hollows in Hueco Mundo, and likewise, there were also special Quincies in the Wandenreich.
However, compared to the Soul Society and Hueco Mundo, the number of special Quincies was minuscule. Often, when they appeared, they were viewed as 'aberrants' by the Quincies and were killed.
The only special Quincy who hadn't been executed was recognized by Yhwach himself and was a member of the Sternritter. All other special Quincies were not acknowledged!
No wonder!
No wonder the man before her claimed he wasn't a knight yet possessed such formidable power!
"The power you speak of does indeed flow within me," Feng Ye said calmly as he held Bonaparta up with one hand. It was worth mentioning that noble clothing was indeed durable, as it remained intact despite the rough handling.
Fear flashed in Bonaparta's eyes, and her body began to shake. She could no longer maintain her previous composure and pleaded, "No, I don't know anything, please let me go..."
Every special Quincy was viewed as an enemy by the regular Quincies. Once their identity was discovered, they would be collectively besieged and might even attract the attention of the Sternritter.
In this situation, it was obvious what would happen next—she would be silenced to cover up the truth!
At this moment, it didn't matter if she was a young mistress of a noble family, a descendant of the Sternritter, or even a member of the royal family. To protect their identities, special Quincies wouldn't hesitate to commit any atrocity!
Feng Ye looked at Bonaparta and, upon hearing her words, suddenly revealed a gentle smile. "Since you've discovered my identity, how could I possibly let you go?"
This gentle smile seemed warm and sunny, but to Bonaparta, it was like a demon baring its fangs, a terrifying sight!
"However..."
"I won't kill you."
Feng Ye maintained his gentle smile as he looked at Bonaparta and said, "For you, death alone won't erase everything.
But...
Just as this thought crossed her mind, Feng Ye's palm, which had been grasping her clothes, suddenly thrust forward, piercing her chest in an instant.
With blood splattering everywhere, Feng Ye's hand penetrated her body and appeared behind her, holding her still-beating heart.
"!"
Bonaparta's thoughts froze as she felt the power within her ebb like a receding tide, and her body fell backward, landing on the ground.
Looking at Feng Ye standing there, and at the heart in his hand, despair, anger, and unwillingness welled up within her.
Didn't he say he wouldn't kill her?!
Why?! If she were a Knight Captain or a Stern Ritter, she would make sure Feng Ye experienced the most cruel and painful torture in the world before dying... but unfortunately, she didn't have that chance.
Bonaparta's vision gradually darkened.
Feng Ye stood silently, his gaze drifting from the slowly ceasing heart in his palm to Bonaparta's fallen body on the ground, and he said calmly:
"This is your first death."
...
Light shone through the window, illuminating the cozy bed.
Bonaparta lay there in loose-fitting sleepwear, her eyebrows furrowed as she slowly opened her eyes, gradually waking up.
Dazed and with a slight headache, she sat up, her eyes scanning the surroundings, realizing that she was in an unfamiliar room, not her bedroom.
This place...
Where is this?
"Wait..."
Bonaparta suddenly felt a throbbing headache, and fragments of broken memories began to surface in her mind, gradually piecing themselves together.
She recalled going hunting with her guards, encountering a man, and ordering her guards to attack him. Finally, she remembered him reaching into her chest and pulling out her still-beating heart.
"!!!"
The final scene made her break out in a cold sweat, and she panted heavily. She pulled at her loose sleepwear, revealing her chest, only to find her skin intact, without a single wound. She could also sense her heart still beating normally within her chest.
"... Was it a nightmare?"
Bonaparta's chest heaved violently for a few moments before she gradually calmed down, looking around and asking, "But why did I have such a nightmare, and where is this place..."
Relieved that the previous events were just a bad dream, she breathed a sigh of relief. Even though she noticed that she was in an unfamiliar room, she no longer felt as fearful as before.
After all, she was Bonaparta, the young mistress of a noble family, with a high and mighty status. Aside from the Sternritter at the very top, even a Knight Captain of the Silver Rack City wouldn't dare to treat her badly.
She stood up, glanced at the clothes on the bedside, put them on, and then opened the bedroom door, stepping out into the corridor.
"Is anyone there?"
Bonaparta called out, but the corridor ahead was empty, devoid of any signs of life.
Looking out the window, she saw that she was in a villa estate, with a spacious courtyard below. Judging by its appearance, it seemed that only a noble family of some standing would be qualified to reside here.
However, it didn't seem to be a very high-ranking noble family. Based on the quality of the carpet in the corridor and the decorations on the pillars, they were likely only lower-ranking nobles.
Upper-ranking nobles would not use such ordinary carpets; it wouldn't be dignified enough.
"Not a single person in sight."
After calling out again and receiving no response, Bonaparta furrowed her brows. She sensed the entire estate, inside and out, but couldn't detect any spiritual pressure or presence.
The entire estate was eerily quiet, as if she were the only one there.
If the hunting trip and the encounter with Feng Ye had been a nightmare, then how did she end up in this unfamiliar estate? These questions puzzled Bonaparta, and she felt a chill, as if a sinister aura lingered in her heart.
Nevertheless, she needed to figure out what had happened, and the first step was to determine where she was.
With that in mind,
Bonaparta took a breath and walked down the corridor until she reached the stairs. She descended and soon arrived in the spacious hall on the first floor.
The front door, leading to the courtyard, was open, and she was about to step out when her eyes caught a glimpse of something in the adjacent side hall, connected to the spacious main hall. A shadow seemed to be moving there.
"?!"
Bonaparta was taken aback.
Despite the chilling feeling in her heart, she found herself walking towards the side hall, as if drawn there against her will.
After a few steps, she reached the entrance of the side hall and walked in.
Before her was a slightly smaller but still spacious hall, with a long table in the center. On one corner of the table were about seven or eight plates of food.
A man sat by the table, holding a knife and fork, gently cutting a piece of fried egg, which he then popped into his mouth. He looked up at her and offered a faint smile.
"Good morning."
The man before her was the same one from her nightmare, the one who had killed her and taken out her heart! Bonaparta's pupils contracted violently, and a sense of dread enveloped her entire being, causing her to break out in a cold sweat, her body even swaying slightly from the intensity of her reaction.
The memories of her nightmare overlapped with the present scene before her.
A fearful thought emerged in her mind.
What had transpired...
Was it truly a dream?!
