Chapter 628: Truth and Belief
Chapter 628: Truth and Belief
At the Crown Prince's Mansion.
Lan Yeyue was under house arrest in Chen Long's courtyard. She couldn't leave, and she certainly wasn't about to die.
Naturally, she didn't want to die.
She wandered around the courtyard, utterly bored.
Just as she reached the gate, a Miao Borderlands expert blocked her path.
Ruan Ling said, "The Miao King has ordered that you must not step outside this gate."
Lan Yeyue rolled her eyes.
She then walked to the back of the courtyard, near the wall.
Ruan Qing, standing on the roof, said, "You can't go that way either."
Lan Yeyue fumed and returned to her room.
She hadn't even sat down when the door was slammed open.
Meng Qianqian, her face icy cold, walked in.
Lan Yeyue was taken aback and said irritably, "What do you want? My medicines have already been plundered by your master!"
Just mentioning this made her angry. She had brought countless spirit pills and elixirs from the Medicine King's Vale, just in case.
But in one night, they were all taken.
Chen Long had better survive this; she would make him pay for it eventually!
Meng Qianqian walked straight up to her and stared at her intently.
Lan Yeyue's scalp tingled under that sharp gaze, and she asked irritably, "If they're gone, they're gone. Staring at me won't bring them back!"
"I'm not here for your medicines."
Meng Qianqian got straight to the point, "I want to know, what is your true purpose for coming to the Southwest?"
Lan Yeyue replied nonchalantly, "Just because you ask doesn't mean I have to answer. Who do you think you are?"
Meng Qianqian said, "You don't have to answer, but don't forget that you are a prisoner, and a prisoner of Lu Yuan. As the daughter of the Medicine King's Vale, you should know the methods of the Grand Commander of the Embroidered Guard."
Lan Yeyue looked at the cool, distant figure standing in the courtyard and shivered involuntarily.
"Talking won't take a piece of flesh off me."
Meng Qianqian, having delivered a harsh warning, then offered a sweet treat, pulling out a box of freshly baked crab roe crisp, "Just out of the oven."
Lan Yeyue pouted and refused to eat.
Meng Qianqian opened the box and pushed it toward her.
The rich aroma wafted up, and Lan Yeyue involuntarily swallowed.
Few people knew her preferences.
Chu Nan was one of them.
She had told him herself.
"Chu Nan, I love crab roe crisp. If you ever make me angry, remember to use it to appease me!"
Thinking of Chu Nan, Lan Yeyue's eyes welled up.
Seeing her hesitation, Meng Qianqian took a piece and was about to eat it herself when Lan Yeyue snatched it back.
"Didn't you buy it for me?"
Meng Qianqian said, "I thought you wouldn't eat it."
Lan Yeyue ate it in large bites.
Meng Qianqian poured her a cup of hot tea.
Lan Yeyue's eyes were red. "I'm choking."
Meng Qianqian whispered, "I know."
Tears streamed down Lan Yeyue's face.
Her throat ached, and her heart hurt. She couldn't taste the crab roe crisp.
But she stubbornly finished the piece.
Meng Qianqian, seemingly oblivious to her distress, waited quietly.
" Aren't you drinking?"
Lan Yeyue asked.
"Not thirsty."
Meng Qianqian replied.
Lan Yeyue paused, "Are you pregnant?"
Meng Qianqian's eyes flickered.
No wonder, the Hare of the East had an insight second only to Si She.
"Yes."
She admitted openly.
Lan Yeyue, surprisingly, didn't mock her and just ate another piece of crab roe crisp.
This time, she seemed much calmer, savoring the taste.
"Why are you asking about my purpose here in the Southwest?"
She asked.
Meng Qianqian said, "I want to know if you were aware of and involved in Hu Lie's conspiracy with the Medicine King's Vale."
Lan Yeyue said oddly, "Hu Lie? You mean Prince Jin’s uncle? You suspect he’s colluding with us from the Medicine King’s Vale?"
Meng Qianqian asked, "You don’t know?"
Lan Yeyue replied haughtily, "There’s nothing in the Medicine King’s Vale that I don’t know. No matter where you got your information, I advise you not to believe everything you hear!"
Did Silent Wind mishear something?
Meng Qianqian furrowed her brow in suspicion, but soon shook her head.
Silent Wind wouldn’t have misheard.
Either Hu Lie’s subordinates had incorrect information, or Lan Yeyue was also in the dark.
As for why Lan Yeyue wouldn’t be deceiving her—
They had been acquainted for years, and Meng Qianqian could tell if Lan Yeyue was lying.
"You asked about my purpose in coming to the Southwest."
Lan Yeyue replied indifferently, "What purpose could I have? To watch the show, of course! I didn’t expect you to actually win against the Thousand Mechanism Pavilion!"
Meng Qianqian looked at her intently. "Was it your idea to recruit the Black Armor Army, or your father’s?"
Lan Yeyue picked up another Crab Roe Crisp. "Mine! Instead of letting the Black Armor Army become bandits, it’s better for them to join the Medicine King’s Vale!"
Meng Qianqian stared straight into her eyes. "You want to protect the Black Armor Army and preserve Chu Nan’s legacy."
Lan Yeyue pouted. "What does it matter to you?"
Meng Qianqian said, "Maintaining an army isn’t easy. Your father didn’t stop you?"
Lan Yeyue replied proudly, "I thought he would, and I was prepared to threaten him with my life. Fortunately, my father loves me."
Lan Yeyue wasn’t stupid; it’s just that in life, there are always people you don’t want to doubt.
Meng Qianqian decisively relayed the information Silent Wind had gathered from the Underground Palace.
Lan Yeyue’s expression changed on the spot. "Don’t you dare slander my father! My father would never scheme against the Black Armor Army!"
Meng Qianqian cut to the heart of the matter. "So, you admit that your father is capable of such heinous acts."
Lan Yeyue was speechless.
Her father might not be a saint, but she was his precious daughter. How could he take away what she wanted, turning them all into living puppets when he knew she wanted to protect Chu Nan’s Black Armor Army?
Meng Qianqian remained silent, just looking at her calmly.
Lan Yeyue, enraged and humiliated, shouted, "My father is not like Gongsun Yanming! He wouldn’t do that to me! He loves me the most!"
"I never said your father doesn’t love you."
The Medicine King’s Vale’s master had a daughter in his middle age and cherished Lan Yeyue as a treasure. Loving her was one thing, but having his own ambitions was another.
The world wasn’t black and white.
Lan Yeyue flew into a rage. "I don’t believe it! I don’t believe it! I don’t believe it! My father said the Black Armor Army is mine!"
This was the second time she had lost her composure in front of Meng Qianqian.
She gritted her teeth. "Are you trying to upset me on purpose?"
"There’s no need for that."
Meng Qianqian stood up and left.
"What evidence do you have?"
Meng Qianqian didn’t answer, nor did she say, "If you don’t believe me, you can check for yourself."
She gazed at the azure sky. "Hu Lie trained a formidable army. You are one of the few who know about the training methods of the Black Armor Army. You… haven’t mentioned this to the Medicine King, have you?"
Lan Yeyue was stunned.
Meng Qianqian brushed off her sleeves.
Lan Yeyue said, "I’ll go—"
"Too late."
Meng Qianqian said calmly, "The Black Armor Army has already been surrounded by Hu Lie’s forces."
"Then why—"
"But the Medicine King’s Vale won’t succeed."
Meng Qianqian turned to face the light, half her body bathed in the glow. "I trust Han Qi and the Black Armor Army."
