Chapter 628: The Maze (Second Update)
Chapter 628: The Maze (Second Update)
"Found it!"
Just as two-thirds of the Black Lake had been parted by the Water-Parting Charm, Jerry finally saw Hermione's figure.
It was a small village built by the Merfolk using stones on the lake bed. In the central square of the village stood a massive Merfolk statue.
Tied to the statue's tail with ropes were three people:
Jerry's beloved Hermione, Fleur's beloved, her sister Gabrielle, and Krum's beloved, his dance partner at the Yule Ball, a seventh-year Slytherin girl.
At that moment, all three were under a spell cast by Dumbledore, sleeping deeply, with occasional bubbles escaping from their mouths.
As for the Merfolk warriors who had been guarding the three, they had all fallen to the ground when the water in the square was parted by Jerry.
The Merfolk, with human torsos and fish tails, lacked legs like humans. Without water, not only could they not fight, but even standing up was a challenge.
So, Jerry didn't need to lift a finger. He easily reached Hermione, untied the ropes binding her, and lifted the spell Dumbledore had placed on her.
Hermione slowly opened her eyes, dazed.
"Jerry!"
Seeing the parted lake, the fallen Merfolk warriors, and Jerry standing in front of her, reaching out his hand, Hermione felt a romantic sensation, like a princess being rescued by a prince after being kidnapped. She was glad she had agreed to be Dumbledore's hostage right away.
"Let's go, we're going back!"
Jerry lovingly tidied Hermione's hair, which had been disheveled by the lake water, and used magic to dry her wet clothes that clung to her body. He then took her hand and led her back onto the Ice Carpet.
With a thought, the Ice Carpet quickly carried the two of them back the way they came, and the parted lake water began to merge again, returning to its original state.
Jerry didn't bother to rescue Fleur and Krum's hostages, knowing that even if Fleur and Krum couldn't find them, they wouldn't be in any danger.
Moreover, with the clear path he had created, it was only a matter of time before Fleur and Krum found the two.
On the three towers, all the witches watched as Jerry led Hermione up the ice staircase step by step, and they couldn't help but gasp in amazement.
Most of the young witches looked at Hermione with envy in their eyes.
Imagine being trapped in the Merfolk village under the Black Lake, then a handsome hero parts the lake like a divine warrior, defeats the Merfolk warriors, and rescues you in front of the students and faculty of the three schools, returning on a magnificent ice staircase.
Oh, could anything be more romantic or more heart-stirring?
They wished they could immediately step in and replace Hermione, to be the one rescued.
"Jerry Carmen returns first, taking six minutes. After a unanimous decision by the five referees, he is awarded a perfect score of fifty points, placing first!"
As Jerry and Hermione stepped back onto the main tower, Ludo announced the score given by the five referees.
It was no surprise, as Jerry's performance had been truly outstanding. Whether it was his masterful Ice Carpet spell or the astonishing Water-Parting Charm he had created, both far exceeded the referees' expectations.
And out of the six minutes, only two minutes were spent by Jerry finding Hermione and making the round trip. The remaining four minutes were spent on the tower, untying Hermione, and helping her tidy up her clothes.
Even the most unwilling Karkaroff had to award full marks, otherwise, it would have been impossible to justify the decision.
When Ludo announced the result, the young wizards on both towers erupted in thunderous cheers and applause.
Fifty minutes after the start of the competition, Krum, with a shark's head, finally returned to the main tower with the seventh-year Slytherin girl, earning forty-five points and placing second.
In the final minute before the end of the competition, Fleur appeared on the lake's surface with her younger sister Gabrielle, earning forty points and placing third.
With this, the second task came to an end. Thanks to Jerry's efforts—though it might not even be called effort, just a casual performance—Hogwarts took a significant lead in the scoring.
After the competition, Ludo announced the date for the third task, which would take place on June 24th. The competition would end just as Hogwarts was about to break for the summer.
Before they knew it, it was the last week of May.
"The laws of this world are becoming increasingly difficult to comprehend. Perhaps it's time to consider visiting other Mini Worlds!"
During Professor Mcgonagall's Transfiguration class, Jerry listened to the lesson with a small part of his mind while focusing the rest on understanding the laws of this world.
At this point, he had already fully comprehended and integrated all the relatively easy laws of the Harry Potter world into his ring world.
Now, if he wanted to understand another law, it would take several years to accomplish.
So he had already decided that after the summer break, he would visit all the other Mini Worlds to collect the lower-level laws from each one.
As he had thought before, instead of spending years, decades, or even centuries struggling with a high-level law, it would be more efficient to visit different Mini Worlds and collect the lower-level laws that could be understood in a matter of days or weeks.
By accumulating these lower-level laws, he could eventually fuse and comprehend a high-level law, a process that would be much more efficient than struggling with a single high-level law.
Moreover, only someone like him, who could travel between different Mini Worlds, could achieve this.
After all, time in the Harry Potter Mini World would be frozen while he was away, so no matter how long he stayed in other Mini Worlds, Hermione would never notice his absence.
"Mr. Carmen, at nine o'clock tonight, go to the Quidditch Stadium. Mr. Bagman will be there to inform the champions about the third task."
After Transfiguration class, Professor Mcgonagall pulled Jerry aside to give him this instruction.
So, at half past eight that evening, Jerry parted ways with Hermione and made his way to the Quidditch Stadium outside the castle.
As he approached the stadium, Jerry noticed that the Quidditch Stadium, which had been transformed into an arena for the first task, had undergone significant changes once again.
Witches from the Ministry of Magic were using their wands to cast spells, constructing a series of intricate high walls. The entire setup looked like a maze.
Indeed, Jerry knew it was a maze, as the third task of the Triwizard Cup was to navigate through it.
